Pay To Play

Post » Fri Feb 07, 2014 10:46 pm

The pay to play genre is almost dead. Why would BETHESDA go in that direction? The game is $59.99 to purchase then $14.95 per month there after. Seriously? The game is OK right now as per my experience but I don't think I need another bill. I'm supposed to enjoy the game. Not only do I have to worry about making ends meet but now I have to worry about paying another bill in order to escape real life a bit. Is there going to be a one year subscription to pay for the service in one shot? That would sound like a better option for me and probably many other players. If not, then I guess I would have to pass on this one. There are other ways BETHESDA can profit from the game but instead they getting a bit greedy.

The p2p genres isn't really dead. Darkfall, FFXIV, EvE, WoW, DAoC, UO, AO (I think) are all still p2p. All it take for a game to be successful and remain p2p is for the producer/devs not to get greedy (expecting WoW like numbers), and to have a fan base that stick around.

I actually prefer pay to play over pay to win like most games are going to.

I agree, i'd prefer Pay to Play over Pay to Win games anyday. If this was P2W, I wouldn't be interested. I don't mind dropping 15 dollars a month for a good game, if it stays good. It beats having to spend 120 a month to buy a new game every two weeks or having to deal with keeping up with the top tier players who drop 100 dollars a month into the game to simply have the best gear and items.

I'm alright with the pay to play model. Agreed, £60 plus an additional tenner a month is a bit much in my honest opinion, but at the end of the day how many hobbies are as cheap as the subscription fee? That sixty quid will also pay for itself over time and you'll hardly miss it if you enjoy the game, but I still think it should've been a tad cheaper. We'll see what the final price is upon release.

As long as I'm getting my £8.99's worth plus the £60 with 30 days free on release, I am perfectly fine paying a sub fee. It's when I'm not getting regular content that I don't enjoy when I consider stopping my payments, and it's as simple as that.

PS: Bethesda hasn't any involvement in the game; it's Zenimax Online Studios (ZOS) who are the developers. Bethers do the single player TES games. ^^

They will be offering discounts for longer subscription periods, most likely 1, 3, and 6 months if I had to guess, possibly even longer. And pay to play is far from dead, and in many cases preferable. It ensures a steady income to allow better improvements and constant support for games. A poor month in sales for f2p games can result in cutbacks, where as thats far less likely to happen with a pay to play game. On top of that, for those who like to focus on one game at a time for an extended period of time such as myself, this is very nice as paying 15$ a month is far cheaper then going through game after game and wearing out its replayability.

I still think $15 a month is a bit much. I can deal with paying a one shot year subscription then paying every month adding to my bills. I like games but I don't think I have to pay a monthly bill to enjoy them.

Bethesda is publishing the game. They really have nothing to do with the subscription model.

Zenimax Online Studios developed the game and is maintaining the game.

Zenimax Media is the parent company.
