Paying money for items?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 12:24 pm

Hi, first I must say I am really looking forward to this game, which is pretty strange for me, as this is primarily an online gameplay oriented game, something I normally don't pay much attention to, but every time some new information is released I keep getting more and more excited about it, I feel specially http://www.gametrailers.com/video/something-for-brink/711462 mirrored for the first time my thoughts on online games very well.

So I am almost convinced that this game will be for me, and I am very close to actually pre-ordering it already but... there is one thing that would really bug me and actually make me not even want to buy the game:

The issue in question is that I have been a mild fan of Team Fortress 2 as far as competitive online games go, but since they added the item shop I have really felt disgusted with it, not so much for the items at first (since I understand Valve has to try to make some money from this old game) but specially when I learned about crates and keys, that just reeks of greed. In my opinion this is a horrible trend in modern games, that I consider close to a scam, since in the end you are paying way more to buy all the little pieces of a full game, when not so long ago you could enjoy all the features in a game with just one transparent payment.

So my question is if anybody knows if there is any indication that Brink will have items for sale for real money, I don't really mind too much DLC packs, but I would hate to have to buy individually the weapons, attachments, skins, etc.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this issue.

Like I said on SD's forum. Highly unlikely that they will start making you buy each item. TF2 is a different beast. But they might just make clothing packs or just make DLC packs which have both clothing, maps etc.

Didn't they do something like that is Splinter Cell: Conviction? I kind of remember that but I'm not sure.

i wish i could get weps on TF2 ,for the 360 you don't get a wep store, least on pc you have a 3.5% chance of earning a weapon. though no so far Brink don't need money cept DLC's as posted earlier.

Brink will not do anything lije this, they spent a extra year balancing, there not going to throw that away so people can buy guns that are overpowerd and ruin tgmhe game.

It's kind of a toss-up for me. Splash Damage seems genuine enough as a company to not try to dangle carrots in front of its players like that.

At the same time, however, the scale of the customization toolset is huge. Added costume pieces don't seem that unlikely.

when i saw this game i was 100% sure that there WILL BE a store, i only played TF2 for a day so cant say much about that, but i think its more like BFH as customization of your character is VERY big part in this game

not nececarely weapons, i mean more like decorative items and skins for weapons and such

i'm sure you can rent them with earned currency as well , but im near 100% if you want them permanent you will need cash

the question is HOW MUCH ?!?

i love where this game is going, but i really hope items will be affordable, that will be a deciding factor for me to play

if its not there is no cash store, i doubt we get new items all the time in to the store, so that they available for cash as well IS actually a big plus, in my opinion

the huge problem with packs are that you limited in customization, its way cooler (and usually more expensive) to pick and chose, other wise every one just looks the same, whats the fun in that !

if you really want a unique character you have to pick and chose every item

It's not that big of a problem to go with DLC over a store, the reason being: You will still be able to mix and match every part of every set in the DLC. You can either add that apparel to your existing outfit or just not use it at all and buy a pack for the maps instead.

Besides, if there is an item store then eventually you'll have to pay real money for items, and people will stop playing due to unfairness and/or anger at being cheated.

Damn no store!

I use to play Battlefield heroes then i realised that people who buy, get the advantage.

Seriously unfair.

that link does not contain anything on the store or even VISUAL customization

ok lets make this clear I THINK

weapons , abilities , stuff that give you an advantage in combat will be free (hopefully)

clothing, weapon-SKINS, tattoos... so DECORATIVE stuff will be as well available for cash or short rentals for free with earned credits

DLC is just a fancy way of putting downloadable content with dont even describe the items here, as all items MUST be loaded in to the system for every Multi Player, or you wearing it but no one else can see it

having sets as codes floating around, it wont be cheaper to get codes from ebay or forums at all... i sold such codes for other games on ebay and they sold for insanely high amounts up to $50 each clothing/decorative item

and if its all free for all then we wont have enugh... its a lot of work to create 1000's of items... i doubt that will be included for free with the game, at least not all of them
in the promo videos the developers to very much visual CUSTOMIZATION as a main feature of this game, having a few 100 items wont cut it, in the end a lot of people will look the same or very similar

AGAIN DECORATIVE ! not weapons

EDIT:

actualy i found something that is for me deeply desapointing

there will be only a hand full of items, so customisation will be kinda lame

here is the complete list:
Tattoos:

El Salvadorian Tattoo
Haida Tattoo
Nedosegaem Tattoo (it seems to mean “untouchable” in Bulgarian)
Yakuza Tattoo

Shirts (Security):

Bouncer Shirt
Muscle Shirt
Muscle Vest
Shirt & Sweatband
Stab Vest
The Eel Shirt

Jacket:

The Boiler Suit
The Straps
The Voice

this is so little , im sad :(

I speculate that eventually, they might offer customization and maybe some weapons via DLC. Most likely, it isn't gonna break the bank. It's beyond certain that the point of Brink is not a capitalist sort of thing. It seems to me that Splamage just wanted to make an awesome game and it'll earn the profit it earns.

The fact that Brink is shattering almost every FPS mold is indicative enough that Splash Damage isn't going for money, money, money.

Where did you get this? The gameplay videos and offical word show at least 120 different articles of customization, spread out over ~13 sections.

The difference is that Battlefield Heroes is a free to play game,it earns it's money from the stuff you buy to customize your character and ad space they sell.

Brink is paid for by the publisher and is sold for full price in stores. Eventually we will likely see DLC, but they would damage themselves if they were to try squeezing their fanbase for money for every little thing.

Look at how much it costs to customize 1 of 4 characters in BFH. Assuming you actually take the time to pick every part of 1 character it can cost you near $40, and then you're stuck with that until you pay for more. Plus it throws the balance of the game out the window because the weapons have huge advantages.

Yes and that is a free game so thats how they make there money so for a game like this where we are playing 60 dollars ,and besides DLC, There should not be any thing like items we will be paying for.
