A "Peace" mod so my 5 year old can play too.

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:36 pm

My 5 year old daughter liked to watch me play Skyrim when it first came out. When she watched I go for a horseback ride or walk around town talking to people and "sneezing" (force shout) stuff around in the stores and so forth. Since then she has asked to play and she likes going for a swim in the river and running around the beautiful landscape by foot or horseback and exploring. The problems lies when she starts to get attacked by animals, bandits ect... I really don't want her attacking and killing people especially since I have the perk that does finishing moves of decapitation, etc..

The easy answer is don't let her play the game and I know that. However with the talented modders out there I think there would be a good use for a mod that has nothing aggressive in the land. This was she can go anywhere and not worry about being attacked.

I've seen the many youtube videos of small kids getting sad when they get "sworded" for not leaving a private home, etc..

I don't want this thread to be a debate about teaching a 5 year old that this is just a game or they shouldn't be playing a violent game like this (hence the need for the mod) or anything like that. This game is beautiful and I would like to share it with her little intrigued mind.

So who's a modder? Seems like a simple script fix no?

I think it could be an interesting mod and probably a simple one that just turns off hostility in NPCs and creatures. My 5 year old son likes to watch me play the game and when he does for his sake I tend to paralyze wolves, horkers, and bears as those are the only things in the game he gets upset over if I kill.

There will be something eventually. They may need the CK to make it easier though idk. In the meantime.

Of course you could take all weapons away set the difficulty to Master and tgm(toggle god mode) that way she won't die, will not likely be able to kill anything and the only thing you need to worry about is other things killing each other and scripted encounters.

I have to say, there are a million other child friendly games she could play with graphics exactly like Skyrim that she can play. Just because you play Skyrim doesn't mean she has to.

I'm not sure if a mod would get made like that, might have to request it.

There are console commands that disable the AI for all the computer controlled people, creatures, etc. This might be a good start on what you want, although the lack of motion might hurt immersion and the player could still attack and kill others.

Thanks for all the replies. I will look at the list of modders and talk with a few of them about it.

Well we have a Wii and she has a Leapster. She has plenty of games for them but none of them come even close to the graghics of this game on my PC at ultra settings + mods that make this game look amazing. ;)

As I said, she just doesn't have to play and quite frankly until I can find a mod that does this she probrably won't.

I would make this for you, once the CK comes out. The easy part is turning off aggression for most creatures and enemies. The hard part would be going through each quest and either changing it or locking it so you can't actually access it, at least for the ones that force you to fight.

You could try toggleing the combat AI off. Open the console with the tilde(~) key. Type tcai and this should toggle the combat AI off. repeat to turn on I beleive. I havn't tried it myself, so I don't know if it turns combat off entirely or just the imediate area. I would also save the game before doing this, just incase.

Sweet thanks bro! I wouldn't worry about turning off the quests that cause aggression or anything. (unless you want to for a larger based mod for older kids). While she does know how to talk to people ,she rarely listens or does what they say. Heh. She just opens doors, interacts with people and things, then explorers the land and so on. Oh yeah I guess she like to click on things that may be on store shelves and well you know what happens next. :)

Well it isn't a guarantee. I wrote it down in my list but I have a long list of things I want to do with Skyrim once the CK comes out. As most of those will be contributing to my 3d Modelling/Graphic Design Portfolio they take precedence. Also, I do have to balance it with work, class, and other work I do. So I'll try and get to it, but no guarantee.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think the console command tcai turns off combat AI in the game. Other AI should be unaffected.

She won't get attacked, but what's to stop her from becoming a blood thirsty maniac when she figures out that her "walking stick" is really a Staff of Chain Lightning?

Just mod out all enemies and replace the enemy encounters with deer, fox and rabbits. Tada. (also disable all quest that have you kill something).

Oh yeah and mod weapons too.. So steel swords would be a wooden sword etc. (and not do any damage, no blood when striking stuff etc). Same goes for staff of chain lightning. Make soap-bubbles shoot out of it and do 0 damage etc.

I imagine this would be a whole bunch more than that. Nerfing pretty much every quest, deleting all monsters, making all animals non-hostile...a simple script fix? No sir.

My eight year old cousin plays it just fine. She can't enjoy the game without fighting every now and then. Your child better buck up.

How about not letting your child play a game which you think she's not fit for playing?

A 5-year old should not be playing this game even if bows shot lollipops and everyone was swinging foam swords. If you want your child to play games then get one of those age-appropriate educational games. You know, something that will help her develop her mind.

Bah! I didn't have any educational games growing up. I actually developed an affinity for reading and writing based almost entirely on my playing of games, because we didn't have voice overs; we had to friggin' read the story, solve complex riddles, or solve complicated puzzles with absolutely no hints or the internet to help.

I will leave the moralising to other people. At the end of the day, it helps hand-eye coordination, shows some pretty views and plays nice music.

You can turn off combat (i.e. aggression, responding to violence, NPC combat) very easily. However, she would be able to attack things albeit without them responding. You can also easily disable blood.

1) Make a text file in Skyrim directory called Peace.txt.
2) Edit it with a text editor (e.g. notepad)
3) Add the lines:
tcai
tgm
and any other commands

4) Get http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=110 to remove all blood
5) And http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28 to replace scary spiders with fluffy teddy bears

6) In game, open the console and type bat Peace.txt. This will need to executed every time the game restarts.

Bingo, no blood, no fighting, no player damage.

Naturally, some quests will be uncompletable, and some other aspects will be a bit dodgy, and I have no idea how scripted combat (e.g. Helgen) will pan out but until the CKS comes out this is a rough-and-ready change.

And until that point, there are still areas with people impaled on pikes, burnt to a crisp, rotting bodies, implied eroticism and so on...

There's an ini tweak that can disable all gores, i.e. no finishing moves, no blood, etc.

Don't know if that's enough for you or not.

Btw, my 3 year old cousin loves to watch(obviously she can't play it herself) me play Bioshock. :flamethrower:
