To peak or not to peak...

When you throw yourself into the Fallout world, will you stay true to the code of a lone wanderer and stay away from all hints, guides, tips, forum banter etc.. or will you give in and cheat yourself of the most epic Fallout experience ever? :touched:

All joking aside I've stayed away from the video clips and spoiler articles and I will be shutting my vault door on all communication to the outside world starting November 10th.

"Let's go pal!"

Well I haven't watched the leaked footage and I most certainly will avoid online spoilers after release.

I wil read official articles and such, and avoid any that have spoiler tags. I will likely stay out of the forum as well. My first time through I will try and do the main quest and whatever side quests make sense, and then look at guides for things I may have missed on a second play.

At least for a couple of playthroughs.
I want my different builds to have meaning organically and not because I'm gaming the system.

I personally can't wait to see the reaction to Fallout 4 (on the forums especially), and specifically how people acclimate to the voiced PC, and how Fallout 4 compares to the Witcher 3.I think a lot of fans underestimate how good The Witcher 3 is, it would be quite the achievement for Fallout 4 to usurp such a redoubtable contemporary.

This forum is pretty much the only place I get my F4 news. On the sad sad day that the info starts to become spoilerific, then amigos, it will be time for this Khajiit to say "Adios" to the forum for a while.

I normally don't look at guides, hints or tips until my second play through. My first is always blind. I'll probably look at people first impressions on here and maybe youtube then avoid anything Fallout until I finished the main story.

I'm kind of confused why a lot of people compare the two. They're very different games right? TW3 being more in line with and ES game? I've only briefly looked at it since it struck me as uninteresting personally

Agreed. My Official FO4 Hardcover Guidebook stays shut right in my VaulTec safe until the first playthrough is complete! Nice quality with this type of style is the longevity of game play! Easily worth the $250+ I've invested with 3 copies thus far (PC & Xbox One).

I'm trying my best to go into this blind and to see what I can do on my own, mistakes and all, but I will have the Hardcover Guide on standby. I remember in New Vegas how some quests were a real pain unless you had a guide, so might as well have one just in case.

I had the chance to watch the leaked footage but I showed great self restraint & denied myself. If Bethesda chooses to show something officially then its very hard not to take a peek.

I will avoid spoilers and game guides, including wikis, like the plague. I'm watching plenty of stuff now, but there's just not a whole lot of content being shown yet, which I'm fine with. Now that I know the bare basics, I think I'm good until launch. i don't want to know about the plot, locations, factions, or specific characters until I encounter them in the Commonwealth. The day they tease those details is the day I go dark.

I'm looking forward to comparing them for sure. I think they have somewhat different goals as an open-world action RPG, although both specialize in excellent world-building. I don't think it's quite as perfect as some people seem to, but I'll save the heads-up comparison for another day, when I've actually played Fallout 4.

I could probably get into the Witcher series if I were able to create a personalized protagonist, but Geralt doesn't interest me at all. Too high fantasy for me. Otherwise it looks like a great series. I think Fallout 4 will be fine. It certainly has the interest of a lot more people than The Witcher gauging by YouTube video views. 5.5 mil for Witcher and over 16 million for Fallout 4.

Seems Fallout is now mainstream. How do you like that? :)

I think you are quite correct, The Witcher 3 is an excellent game, though after 2 play throughs I'm fatigued for a time now.

As a slightly different beast, I'm not sure Fallout 4 needs to do any usurping, but we'll all know in 3.5 weeks...

On topic, I do have the Vault Dwellers guide coming (dated 2nd Dec curiously) but I don't plan to peek (unless in dire need).

No wiki's, no videos, no walk-thru, no forums. However, I will watch the Nexus for the first body-replacer mod to appear and lurk in modding forums to learn about the game engine and how things are organized as compared to Skyrim.

your title had me confused, i thought it was about peaking stats not peeking for secrets lol. I probably won't, at least until i beat the main quest. I have a bad habit to get on tvtroupes about whatever i'm playing, sometimes that spoils some stuff

The only thing I plan on looking at beforehand is a comprehensive list of all the perks so that I can make the most informed decision possible in my starting build. Other than that, I will not look at any guides, walkthroughs, forums, etc. I want my first playthrough of the game to be a wholly new experience. Exploration & discovery are the most vital elements of a Bethesda game, and I'm not going to ruin that by going to the Internet for tips or to see what other people have found in their own experiences with the game.

LOL. Little play on words humor since stat peaking had been such a huge topic of debate. But yes peek not peak here.

I'll check the guide for how exactly the stats/perks/build system works while in CC but not for quest solutions and the like (for the most part anyway). I also don't look up details and stuff.

Mini side-topic: The Witcher isn't competition for Fallout 4 to me at all cause it doesn't have CC and I'm not interested in Geralt at all. I might read the books but I'm not gonna touch the games.

Well I don't want to make the same mistake and sell Lincoln's Repeater before even using it, because I thought it looked like a useless gun, kinda like a BB gun. Then go and find out its one of the most powerful rifles in Fallout 3. So I will limit my looking online for stuff for the first play through, but if I find a rare looking weapon, i will be looking online to see if its any good lol
