Nice idea. I developed some of the Grottos a bit in Creatures as part of a planned quest (which I scrapped). Some now have "boss" type dreugh, daedric ruins, and massive loot clams.


Yeah, regarding the texture, it's a little odd. I used the Pearl to make an eyeball, the texture is mirrored, so I had two pupils (not a big deal for what it was going to be used for), the equator north to south direction (whatever it's really called) results in a stretched texture, so fine detail isn't possible there.

Please make the colored pearls (besides white, black and pink) an optional esp.

I agree that colored pearls should be extremely rare and only found in kollops - maybe make them into a new random levlist found only in specific places in special kollops/grottos.

One mod that will conflict with this is Resources Enhanced by TheLys which adds a special script to kollops so that bubbles appear after harvesting and sets them to regenerate after a number of days like most herbalism mods. The script is set to give ingred_pearl_01 and to handle the randomness (50%). For compatibility would be best to include a patch that changes that script to give from a random levlist with chance none set to zero.

Thank you for pointing out that incompatibility issue. I remember that mod now that you mention it, I never used it myself but it shouldn't be too hard to alter the script. I'll add that to my to-do list ;)

Perhaps another interesting addition would maybe use a script similar to abot's to randomly spawn colored kollops (or maybe special Meridian Kollops, after all her realm is called the Coloured Rooms...) which produce the unique colored pearls and the colors could be explained as being genetic to those kollops... unfortunately I can't color kollops either. But maybe now that I am getting familiar with nifskope I could just try to steal a texture off the internet and map it to the kollop mesh.

Is that grotto expansion included in Creatures X? Or is it going to be ing creatures XI? Or are you not going to release it at all? because that sounds great! The grottos always seemed neglected by Bethesda.

About the texture, yes that's what I've heard. Perhaps that is part of the problem I've been having with getting the texture to appear properly. http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=913930. But I don't have anything like a pupil on the pearl textures to see if it is showing up double or reflected... but I will keep that in mind. Thanks for the comment PirateLord.

It's mostly about the UV map - looks like the vanilla MW white pearl uses a circular UV map which would only account for one hemisphere of the model, whereas the black pearl UV map is cylindrical which wraps the entire model. Should also mean less distortion.

You should be able to apply the textures Arkeyla provided you to that mesh. Might depend on size and if any hilights are centrally placed.


I couldn't find any info in the readme re: the author - try contacting abot for permissions. :shrug:

New Release!!!

Well I finally got the textures to work for Pearls Enhanced so now it's time for another update!

What this version adds
Arkeyla was kind enough to make me lots of new icons and textures for this mod and this next update includes a lot of that. Now there are unique icons for ALL of the pearls added before: grand, flawless, bright.... all have unique icons and use a texture made by Arkeyla. Also there are two entirely new pearl types; Black Pearls and Pink Pearls are now found in the leveled lists each with unique icons and textures as well!

The next thing I have done in this release was very small. I lowered the % chance of getting pearls out of kollops just a little bit. I lowered it by 5% so still expect to find those pearls you want. But don't expect to find too many Black or Pink pearls because they have their own leveled list and are even MORE rare than the other pearls. But that just makes it more exciting when you do find one!

What this version doesn't add
I could not get the compatibility patch for Resources Enhanced to work. I do not think that I am familiar enough with scripts or something. So that has not been included. Version 2.0 Released!!!

Now the beautiful colored pearls by Arkeyla are available in an optional .esp!

And here's the description for version 2.0 on PES

Makes pearl diving more exciting! By adding nine new varieties of pearls to find in your submarine travels! Now when you open up various Kollops you will find one of nine of these varieties or none at all. The varieties added are: Grand, Flawless, Bright, Common, Dull, Flawed, and Defective Pearls. Or there is also a chance you will find two rare types of pearls; Black Pearls and Pink Pearls sometimes show up as well. One of the coolest things is that all of the varieties are of varying sizes, worth, and weight as well. So for instance a Grand Pearl will be larger than a Flawed Pearl. So when you organize them on your shelves you will automatically have varied sizes to look at. Happy Diving!

Also, now all of the pearls have unique icons for every type! So you can tell what type you got just by looking at it. And there are also three new textures added as well, black and pink pearls have there on textures and then the rest of the textures use a new normal pearl texture made by Arkeyla.

Oh and this is not a replacer. The standard pearl is still found elsewhere. So it isn't quest breaking.

And I suggest you use a leveled list merger just in case. But the only leveled list altered in this mod is the random_pearl list.

NEW ADD-ON

Colored Pearls Add-On....
This add-on brings up the total new pearl count to 44! The new colored pearls are all done by Arkeyla, I simply applied her textures to the mesh and placed them in the leveled list. The new shades you can find are Blue, Gold, Green, Purple, and Red. Each one of these new colors has the same varying qualities as the other pearls in the previous version, along with new icons for each color quality. I want to mention that these new colors are textured very subtle so even purists such as myself won't find them distracting. They are totally beuatiful and fit to rest on anyones treasure shelf.

Change log
V 1.00 Initial Release
V 1.10 Added new alchemical properties to pearls, but only on the fourth level. So you need to have a high alchemy to tap their full alchemical potential.
V1.5 New Black Pearls and Pink Pearls added to list! New icons for ALL of the pearls added by this mod. Icons and textures all done by Arkeyla. Lowered possibility of pearls showing up a little to balance.
V2.0 Colored pearls optional .esp added! Now when you find Kollops you can find the nine new pearls in the previous version and beautiful colored pearls by Arkeyla. They come in Blue, Gold, Green, Purple, and Red shades. The new pearls all have varying qualities, varying sizes, each one with unique icons. Total new pearls is now 44! with this add-on.
Plus a small fix to the leveled list %Chance I made.

DLing myself now - it would be pretty silly of me to put the work in and not have the mod. *chuckle* *I plan on making lovely pearl mosaic-like artworks on the floors on my home with the coloured ones.

Yes I'm very honored that the first poster was so happy with it! And I am very thankful for the work you put into it, the pearls are beautiful, that's why I just had to make the latest release to include all the colors!

I was considering making another optional add-on that made the colored pearls only appear in special kollops that would have unique textures. I would use a script like abot used in Water Life to make them appear all over the place. So now that I am more familiar with retextureing I tried using preexisting textures to make the unique kollop. But the best I could find was the redoran watchman helm, lol!

Readme still at version 1.5 and doesn't mention using 'Pearls Enhanced - Colored Pearls Add-on.esp' in place of 'Pearls Enhanced.esp'
Only one or the other should be used, right?


I've looked into some ways of getting this to work with Resources Enhanced. Problem is that RE handles the randomness, so the best way would be to avoid the random_pearl levlist and draw from each 'chance none zero' levlist individually as well as black and pink pearl objects. Basically, I'll need to have the patch script take the randomness away from the levlist - it causes more headaches then solutions when random 'chance none zero' levlists are nested together and still have RE's script give appropriate messages and allow picking without having to open the container.

Tetchy has made some wonderful patches for Pearls Enhanced. He made a compatibility patch for both Herbalism for Purists and Resources Enhanced. So now if you use those mods you will still get to see the wonderful pearls added in Pearls Enhanced! Go to the link in the OP to download them.

What a coincidence- I just now started pearl diving on my save game! So this mod is perfect to add to my collection. Thanks, melchior! :D

I can't wait to see how you'll take the alchemical thing too. Watching this topic.


I will also be watching this topic, as this will likely be a wonderful counterpart mod to Abot's legendary "Water Life" mod. ;)

Version 2.25 of Pearls Enhanced is now available at PES for download. This version effects the colored pearl add-on. I have made it so that now all of the colored pearls added by this mod have unique, orderly alchemical properties. Here's how it works, by example...

Pearl..................Flawed Pearl.......Flawed Green Pearl
Drain Agility..........Drain Agility..........Drain Agility
Dispel..................Dispel..................Chameleon
Water Breathing....Water Breathing.....Water Breathing
Resist C. Disease...Recall...................Recall

So that's how it works and obviously all the colored pearls do not give the Chameleon effect, so find all those colors to see what effects you can make in your potions!

If you load them in the order you list them here...

-Herbalism for Purists
-Colored Pearls
-Colored Pearls Herbalist for Purist Patch

...then you should be fine. Just make sure that the patch is loaded after the other two .esp's and preferably load my mod after Herbalism to be sure that my leveled list alteration takes effect.

p.s. I'm glad you like the mod :) It's a little something I've always wanted and now we can all have it!

Updated to Version 2.75

In this version all the scripts on the pearls have been removed, so that they will actually stack in your inventory now. Instead of using scripts to alter sizes I have directly changed the source meshes so that when you set the pearls down they will still have all their unique sizes. In short, the only thing changed in this version is more meshes in exchange for no scripts!

Special thanks to tetchy for his original concept for this update and for sending me his very useful resource to get me started. My new-found familiarity with NifSkope certainly helped as well ;)
