[Rel] Pearls Enhanced

Post » Mon Aug 23, 2010 5:47 am

A while back I made my own personal mod which in my mind improved on pearls but I lost it before I was able to release it. With my reactivation (or such) in Morrowind I decided I should make a new version and release it.

So I give you.....

Pearls Enhanced
----a mod for morrowind----

from PES description
Pearls Enhanced makes pearl diving exciting again by adding seven different types of pearls that one may find within the standard Morrowind Kollops (clams). Currently the additions are consecutively: Grand, Flawless, Bright, Common, Dull, Flawed, and Defective Pearls.

I have scripted each (except for the common pearl) of these to be different sizes depending on their gold value.

So in other words when you decorate with your new pearls. There will automatically be different sizes of pearls arraying your shelves! Obviously the Grand Pearl is the largest right now and is worth the most.

This mod alters the random_pearl leveled list. Therefore I suggest using a leveled list merger to avoid conflicts.

Also, this is NOT a replacer. The standard pearls are still seen everywhere else just no longer in Kollops. So this will not be quest breaking.

In addition to a release this topic is also a request. I would like to add more to my mod. I would like to see black and pink pearls included as well to be found in the kollops. However, I am no texture artist or icon creator. Therefore I am asking some kind person to create two retextured pearls along with icons for my mod. (Or send me a resource since I guess that it is likely that these already exist).

Another thing. Do you like the forenames I chose for the pearls? Would you change one, all, or a couple of them? Or would you like to see even more variety? Perhaps other retextures as well?

I hope you enjoy this mod as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Here's a quick screenie just to entice you all..... http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=76076

Here are the new icons made by Arkeyla............http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=76352

Here are some of the colored pearls in version 2.0..... http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=76353

Download is at PES.

I always thought there was no point to diving underwater other than to fight that stupid annoying slaughterfish. :) This should make it more interesting. Great job!

Given that one race can breathe underwater, I assumed that there should be more going on under water in the game.

No I have not changed any of the alchemical properties, they are identical to regular pearls. If you or anyone else would like to have diverse alchemical effects as well (I admit that would be pretty cool). I can make one up and then release maybe a seperate .esp to give that option.

I'm glad that you like the mod! And I agree, the underwater world of Morrowind is rather underdeveloped even with the grottos which Bethesda thankfully included. That's why I made this mod so that I always wanted to go around and find all the kollops in the sea and try to get as many Grand Pearls as I could!

What a coincidence- I just now started pearl diving on my save game! So this mod is perfect to add to my collection. Thanks, melchior! :D

I can't wait to see how you'll take the alchemical thing too. Watching this topic.

Thank you, yes that would be very nice, although there should?nt be to big a diff.between them, as they essensially all are pearls. Perhaps only one varible ? And in fourth use, so that you should be a skilled Alchemist to take advantage of it ?
And yes, there is to little going on underwater, mainly to few kind of ressourses. So this mod is a great idea.

This might be pedantic... but since when are Flawless, Bright, Common, Dull, Flawed, and Defective sizes? Shouldn't the size and quality be separate attributes?

Alright I will see what I can do to make them good alchemical properties. Expect and update soon. I like your idea to make them fourth use as well.

Yes, I certainly see where you are coming from. But naming them Large, Diminuitive, Puny, Extraordinary, and Small Pearls. Just didn't seem as interesting. But if you and others disagree, I suppose that I could alter this. I just think it would be a lot of work to retexture every single pearl type. Even though it would be neat.

Update Report.

Mod has been updated to include semi-unique alchemical properties for each of the new pearls added in this mod. However as suggested above, only the fourth level is changed so you must have a high alchemy skill to tap the pearl's full potential. So explore those grottos to discover what the new effects are! I tried to match the effect with the description of the pearl. I hope you like the ones I chose.

I suppose I will add a list here just in case anyone HAS to know and doesn't want to check the game, because they are lazy like me :)

*******************************spoiler*********************************

Grand Pearl: Levitate
Flawless Pearl: Fortify Personality
Bright Pearl: Reflect
Common Pearl: Resist Common Disease (standard)
Dull Pearl: Spell Absorption
Flawed Pearl: Dispel
Defective Pearl: Recall

Pearls Enhanced News :)

The next update for this mod is soon to be realeased!

What you can look for in the next release...
New Pink Pearls and Black Pearls to find in the Kollops now
Unique icons for ALL the pearls
Updated leveled list to avoid being cheap

New textures and icons are all thanks to Arkeyla who graciously whipped them up for me.

Possible update. Who would like to see colored pearls as well (gold, green, blue, etc.) in this mod as well? Perhaps seen very rarely in the kollops leveled lists. Or maybe added to treasure lists. Should I make an alternate .esp to add these in? give me your info so I can include the right content in the next release!

.....................

The reason for the delay on this release is that I am having trouble mapping the new textures onto the pearl mesh, I will try to figure it out over the weekend.

edit: spelling

It should not conflict with any mod except one that alters the 'random_pearl' leveled list. I do not believe that abot's water life alters that list but I still suggest using a leveled list merger with this mod just to be safe. But I have abot's water life active and I have no issues with this mod at all. If you know of a mod that alters that leveled list please let me know. :)

I would like! They could be very rare and have special, better alchemic properties. I think an optional esp would be great!

Thanks for the input. I think I will include them in an optional .esp for those who would like to have more colorful additions to their pearly collection. Because Arkeyla did a wonderful job on them! And I do not want them to just sit on my computer and take up memory for no reason ;)

But would people like the .esp to include them rarely in the 'random_pearl' leveled list, only in treasure, only in bandit goods, all of the above, none of the above, or a different comination?

Right now I will probably include them VERY rarely in the pearl leveled list. Unless I get different input :)

Just for me to understand... randon_perl only appear underwater and treasure could pop up in any randon loot? If so, I would put it (if possible) rarely in randon_pearl and even more rarer on treasure... I suppose it would be nice for RP to imagine other npcs had also found these pearls.
Would they value also be different or only the alchemic properties?

Yes you are correct. I have not extensively checked this but as far as I know the 'random_pearl' leveled list only appears in the kollops. Whereas the "treasure" lists appear many times.

I plan on making each of the colored pearls pretty unique. With thought out gold values and alchemical properties. Everything unique, to an extent, because I do want some similarity (after all they are all still pearls right?)

And I agree that it wouldn't make sense that no one else in the game (for role-playing purposes) had ever found any of the special colored pearls. If I do add the colored pearls to leveled lists then I will most likely add the pearls already existant in this mod to those lists as well, for consistency's sake :) of course these colored pearls will have their own .esp for those who don't think they look realistic (there will be screenshots with the release) so don't fret

Good luck recoloring the pearls. I tried making a retexture for them, but the texture doesn't wrap around as a sphere. It's really wacky, I hate it. Yeah, anyway, good luck.

Thanks, actually I'm not even attempting texture making myself, Arkeyla kindly did that for me. I am trying to figure out how to map the textures onto the mesh itself. I've been having a little trouble lately but hopefully with a little sweat, tears and ectoplasm I can finish this vampire of a task :)

Nice!

Pearl diving was one of my favorite things to do in Morrowind for some strange obsessive reason, and now you're encouraging me further.

Thanks for the enabling! ;)

Please make the colored pearls (besides white, black and pink) an optional esp. <_<

I agree that colored pearls should be extremely rare and only found in kollops - maybe make them into a new random levlist found only in specific places in special kollops/grottos.

One mod that will conflict with this is Resources Enhanced by TheLys which adds a special script to kollops so that bubbles appear after harvesting and sets them to regenerate after a number of days like most herbalism mods. The script is set to give ingred_pearl_01 and to handle the randomness (50%). For compatibility would be best to include a patch that changes that script to give from a random levlist with chance none set to zero.
