#1 peeve about Skyrim

Post » Thu Feb 26, 2015 10:22 am

Following the 4 years reflection (actually 3-1/4) thread made me ponder this. What thing about Skyrim has bothered you most from release date to now?

For me it's about the way the dialog choice selector doesn't work properly. There's the dialog choices. I want to choose choice #3. I put the cursor on it and click -- and the program concludes that I chose choice #1. So I figured out that you can't rely just on cursor placement. You must ALSO make sure your choice is highlighted. (Hard to tell sometimes if that choice is already grayed out.) Even then, sometimes I have my preference highlighted and the cursor on it, and I still get the wrong choice selected. [A real bummer when the choice the AI selected is counter-productive. Like "Serena, I need to trade some things with you" becomes "Serena, I need you to treat some arrows with your blood" or "I want you to turn me into a vampire".

Three years of feedback, and I know players have complained about this bug many, many, many, MANY times.

There's a mod for that, if you are on PC. I would put a link, but for some reason I can't

Here you go: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/27371/?Works like a charm, I forgot to reinstall it on my current character and nearly threw my mouse across the room. (Also, if you don't want to/can't use that mod for some reason, I find it helps a tiny bit if you scroll with the mouse wheel until the choice you want is next to the pointy arrow thing, as well as pointing at it. Not sure if that's what you mean by making sure it's highlighted, I'm not quite with it today...)

Yeah the dialogue thing is pretty annoying, thank God for mods.

However Bethesda has no excuse for not fixing it or making it work properly in the first place.

What are you playing it on?

I'm on 360 and have never, not once, had that problem...

Of course you haven't, Bethesda worships the Xbox as it's one true God with the PC and PS as the lesser demigods or something, but I digress.

I assume the OP is on PC, considering there is a cursor. You can maneuver through the dialogue with your keyboard just fine, but it's clunky and annoying.

My #1 peeve about Skyrim is that they forced us to begin the main quest in order to play the civil war and Dragonborn quest lines. Whoever thought that was a good idea should be horsewhipped.

My #1 problem with Skyrim is that everyone is still complaining about it. :stare:

Agreed... well sort of ... it's not really Skyrim's fault.

Also, there's 3 "peeve" threads going on at the moment!

Ummm....HOW have I not heard of this mod before? I thought it was just a quirk or Skyrim. I'll add this to my collection as soon as I am able.

Thanks!

+1 There's tons of stuff to choose from, but this one is among their worst designs.

I assume it's yet another issue with the interface being built for controllers, as I notice it's pretty much a non-issue on my character who I play with one.

I'm not sure I agree about Dragonborn, would it still be Last vs First Dragonborn and such, would you want a different (less, er, public) way of realising you were the LDB etc? I guess it could be done, and it might well be good, (and I'm generally in favour of more things being doable as not-Dragonborn) but it's not as bothersome to me as the requirement for the Main Quest, let's put it that way.

Not sure I have a specific #1 peeve, though the thing I remember being really disappointed by when I first started playing was that things which were implied by dialogue and other things weren't actually reflected in gameplay - things like Skyrim's got these freezing cold wastelands and even in the south there's mountains where you should get really cold, but you don't. I don't know that I'd want things like the Frostfall/Hypothermia systems to be obligatory, that could get tedious fast, but I'd like things like that to at least be an optional part of the game without needing a mod for it. (But also without calling it 'hardcoe' mode like in FNV, because it's not really more or less hardcoe, it's just different.) I'd also like the world to be a bit more responsive, you do all this stuff but nothing ever changes. But then all this stuff's a trade off, and the more X you add in, the more Y you probably have to leave out...

Lack of meaningful choices. This initially only bothered me a little, but New Vegas has spoiled me. The complete lack of effect player choices have on the world is pretty damn annoying to me.

Failing that, just too many draugr.

The only thing that has bothered me, is no mods on 360. I wish there was someway for mods to be "published" to the xbox live store, or some such.
