[WIP] Pegasus Estate

Post » Sun Nov 28, 2010 9:03 am

The Pegasus Estate, a very large house mods with things to do

BETA of the house (non-quested version) http://www.4shared.com/file/229455997/976e209/PegasusHouseBETA.html. Please report problems/suggestions in http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1078554. Thank you.

== Main features:

Quested house: You will be able to enjoy some basic facilities of the house right away but you'll need to do a few quest to become its rightful owner.
Improve the house: Once the house is yours, a number of new facilities will be available for you to build (You'll need money/manpower/material for that of course)
Hire some staff: With some money and the proper tools, servants will join your household. Each of them can perform specific services for you once a day
Train your staff: After completing some more small quests, you staff will perform better services.
Be a pack rat yes, but an organised one!: Labelled containers, containers that look like what they are supposed to contain http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/containers.jpg (did that make sense?), sorters.
Collect and display: Scripted activators/npc will easily place your weapons, clothes, books and bottles(?!?) for all to admire. There is also lots of shelves, display cases and mannequins, but you'll have to place things yourself (gasp)

Note: some of the screens/videos are early WIPs and details have been added since.

== The Pegasus Grounds

The Estate lies off the Azura Coat, http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/MAP.jpg.

It comes with its own http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/Docks.jpg.
The guard tower has room for 2 guards and http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/guardview.jpg and on the estate. 2 suits of http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/PEGASUSCLOTHING.jpg (also shown the physiqued cape, shirt and robe) are kept there as well. VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js7qumYZkjw (including the guards' tower and the cottage)

Going around the house (http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/frontview.jpg), you'll find the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/MINE.jpg. You miner will be giving you some ore from it
The mine hold rare http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/MGEScreenshot12.jpg. Your smith, once hired will be able to http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/screen_blue_weapons.jpg

Continuing the tour, the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/Workshop.jpgand workshop.
The workshop has been built with MC (Morrowind crafting) in mind: the anvil, smelter and pottery wheel are at your disposal. The various kits will have to be bought normally.
Here are some of the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/workshop1.jpg: the chests are animated (thank you Phaedrus for this amazing resource!), their content is the actual container.
A handy note has been created for each craft (smithing, carpentry...) listing the items that can be created and the required materials.
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMkxen_1BfU

Right next to the forge, is a http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/outside3.jpg with fresh hay for your horses.

Facing the barn is a pen, ideal for guars, particularly since your herder will be breeding them! A http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/FIELDPEN.jpg tended by your farmer will provide some basic crops.

Take a rest in the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/BACK.jpg, before continuing your way to the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/CEMETERYDAY.jpg (by day, less scary)
From here, you'll gain access to the crypt, built with Vampire Embrace in mind.
See the Master Bedroom, the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/childbed.jpg for your favourite children, the mess hall, the very, very large cell for your cattle, http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/Arcaneroom.jpg for your dark experiments (with ingredient sorter, compliment of Igor, your personal zombie and assistant)
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At8ngI1YBTk

In need of fresh air, you come back outside and cross the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/BRIDGE.jpg and the gardener's cottage.
http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/Gardennight.jpg has pear trees that are easily picked.
The cottage is a http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/cottagenew.jpg with some basic NOM facilities, storage, display and http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/cgewindowott.jpg.

Coming http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=93748, you'll find the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/garden.jpg, with its own barbecue/NOM grill and well.

== The house: Ground floor

You fist step into http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/Vestibule1.jpg which goes up the 1st floor, all the way to the second, so all the rooms are directly accessible from the vestibule.
Things of interest: a book describing the future plans for the estate, the shelves where http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/awards.jpg will be placed as you reach certain goals
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-PXGPPjSoQ

The 1st door to your left is the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/armoury.jpg
Each chest is labelled for all types of clothing, armour and weapons and easily recognisable.
Some mannequins, storage and display of course
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BBMTW8uwbU

The next room is the shrine.
The door has been enchanted to take you to a shrine that reflects your faith whether you worship http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/MGEScreenshot5.jpg, the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/MGEScreenshot2-2.jpg, the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/MGEScreenshot3.jpg, or simply wish for a http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/MGEScreenshot10-1.jpg to meditate in.
All 4 shrines have a similar layout with the exception of the place of contemplation that is a http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/fauxexterior.jpg.
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfJg_D6tq-U

Moving on, the all important loo! Fitted with a flush and an almanac, it even has a view to the outside! VIDEO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qF0KOFgeTOM

The next room is very very large: it's the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/displayhall.jpg.
All the weapons racks are containers, as soon a weapons is put in then, the said weapon appears neatly placed on the rack
Mannequins an display cases (of different sizes)
http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/displayhallstorage.jpg with additional mannequins, wallscreens and displays for you to place as you see fit.
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWN2PlyHcOs

No doubt you'll need to relax after all that, then hit http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/pool.jpg.
Pure eye-candy. Like many other rooms, it has small scripted activators, in this case, the statue will grant you a temporary resistance to diseases.
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deBAaFwRZ2Q

The next room is grand, well great, it's the great hall (http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/receptionhall.jpg).
A very long table to accommodate some 20+ guests, a large dancing area and a stage for the musicians. All you need to do is write the invitations to get the party started.
VIDEO: not yet!

Right next to the Great hall is the mess hall. A far less formal place to dine and a very large kitchen.
The http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/messhall4.jpg is scripted so the table can be laid and food served.
The http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/messhall4.jpg is a pleasant place for your staff to hang out
The http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/kitchen1.jpg has all the NOM facilities, an oven dedicated to muffins only and http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/cookiejars-1.jpg.
Also place your bottles in the winerack to see them neatly placed.
http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/pantry.jpghas some of those containers that look like what they contain.
Plenty of storage, an endless suplly of coloured candles, a http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/messhall4.jpg...
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Itg9sLc4kwU

And finally, trap door will take you underground to the training area
At first, nothing unusual: http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/MGEScreenshot8.jpg, working practice dummy.
You need to complete a http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/parcours.jpg ofhttp://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/MGEScreenshot9.jpg to unlock the next 2 facilities: the duelling pit and the thieves's lair
There will always be an opponent of your level waiting for you in the duelling pit. Defeating the opponent will win you a http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/MGEScreenshot10.jpgbut no loot.
In the http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/MGEScreenshot10.jpg, feel free to hone your skills on many re-locking doors, make a few lockpicks or poison the tip of your throwing weapons.
VIDEO: not happening without spoiling the challenges!

== The 1st floor

The Lord's suite: well, it's big: it has it's en suite http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/lordbath.jpg and loo, it's study corner, its http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/MGEScreenshot6-1.jpg, it's bed of course, with display, mannequins and containers thrown in the mix.
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYiGHzrLnwY

The Lady's Chamber is just as big: http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/ladysuite.jpg large dressing (scripted), just as http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/WIP%20Pegasus%20Estate/ladybath.jpg, sewing corner and bed.

The spell drains health and you'll lose it the moment you step out of the room. The advantage: the creature you summon depends on your level so you can trap better souls are you progress.

That looks absolutely lovely! :tops:

If you're stuck for any pictures, you're welcome to use mine. You can download the loose textures http://princessstomper.wordpress.com/2009/03/01/painting-textures/, or as part of framed packs http://princessstomper.wordpress.com/2009/02/22/landscape-paintings-2/ and http://princessstomper.wordpress.com/2009/02/22/landscape-paintings/. I think the Landscape Paintings 2 pack is probably what you're looking for. You can see some of the textures of the loose Painting Textures resource on the wall http://princessstomper.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/vnpupperhall.jpg.

It all does look really good. :)

I've been hoping someone would find this useful. There is an oversight in the resource though - the scripts refer to a container dm_pot_human but there is no such container. Just place a dm_pot_rat where you want the human meat pot and rename id dm_pot_human change it's name to human meat. Alternately you can find the blocks of code that refer to human meat in the desorter scripts and elimitate them.

The screen shots look great!

Mouth watering greatness, this is the house mod I've always wanted, I'll be watching this closely.

One concern though, I see your female, and your planning on making seperate male and female bedrooms yes? Sometimes I've noticed with female modders that do this that the male bedrooms aren't really equal to that of the female room. (I mean absolutely no offense to female modders of course) But just keep an eye on that maybe.

Thanks, I know and use your paintings a lot actually :) (pack 1 in particular). But this time round I had a bit of fun making my own. But after seeing what others can do, I felt I had to include some of their screenshots.

I like the desorter A LOT and I don't see why it's not in most houses, well, apart from the very modest ones.

Sadly, you're quite right... and I will be careful about that.

I'm loving the originality here - the dwemer architecture mixed in with the hlaalu (?) is genius. It looks very fresh and charming! :D

I know, every house mod is somebody's dream house

Not true! I'd hate to live in all the houses I've made!

Yes it is Hlaalu, it's one of http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5826
Edit: Oops my bad, the worshop uses http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=203. Spewboy's texture is the one in the Armoury screenshot.

A good thing I was wrong, I now know there's at least 1 person who'd prefer living in my house rather than his ;)

Heheh ... well, it's always worth building your 'dream house' in the game - I built mine in Oblivion and I absolutely love it! You won't regret a second you spend making this, I assure you. :)

Never doubted it, plus I'm trying new things, that's nice too :)

So, the next step is complete: I have gathered up some 40 paintings available at http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7573.

Since my texturing skills are at a level where I can add 1:1 textures to nice square flat meshes (with zero modelling skill) , I wondered what else I could create that would be useful for my house... after thinking of every room, I decided that my nursery would need toys, so I present to you http://s656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/?action=view¤t=boardgames.jpg!

Next, I'll try my hands at retexturing a tileset.

I agree, those paintings and games look fantastic. If you need any more paintings (even though you probably have enough, I freaking love paintings) theres http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5439 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5508. I use these alot in my own house mods.

:goodjob: Your paintings & board games look great. Can't wait to see what's next. Also can't wait until you release this beauty. I believe it is going to be very popular.

Thanks a lot. I don't think house are mods that get very popular (not the top downloads on PES) , particularly for the amount of work, luckily I don't care much ;)
That being said, feel free to prove me wrong :hubbahubba:

I agree, those paintings and games look fantastic. I use then as well, but for this project I'd like to try and make my own stuff as much as possible, also I wanted paintings that are strictly MW.

Been trying my hands at making new tile sets... it seems that percetly pretty textures individually turn out very ugly when put together...
Anyway, I've made http://s656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/?action=view¤t=1sttry.jpg set, I tried to keep it plain. The floor might look to nice and the ceiling too dark...what do you think?

Edit:
The Games boards mod is up on http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7575. Not big enough for e [REL] thread but worth taking a look at!

The rooms in the screenshots look great! I also love the idea of using screenshots as paintings. Very origininal :) (at least I haven't seen that before)
About the desorter, aren't you concerned a lot of people use alchemy ingredients balancing mods? I think http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1333 is still very popular. Mods like those alter the effects on the ingredients, making a universal desorter impossible (afaik it's not possible to get the effects from ingredients by script, not even with mwse). I think this is the reason why alchemy desorters aren't included in most house mods... I'm working on a house mod as well and decided to not include a desorter for this reason, although for personal use I will add it because, well, desorters rock my world :)
I wonder how many people still use alchemy rebalancing mods..

Very good point... I'll still include it because I intend to live in my house, and I can't do without the desorter...
Also, the alchemy desorter is a facility that is not available at first in the house, you'll need to expand it first, so I'm guessing players who have no need for it simply won't have it built ;)

Otherwise, I'm still working on new tilesets.

I personally think that tileset looks great, but maybe you should lighten the ceiling just a little bit. :)

I must say I'm looking forward to this a great deal, thank you for working on this.
I've wanted a "Sim Estate" mod for a very long time, and while there has been various attempts in that direction this seems to have the best potential. :)

I am not a modder, so have little idea how feasable any of my ideas are, but there are several things I think would make for interesting play.
I do realize this means a lot of work though ^_^

About the Staff
A large home should have both children and older people. The maid could be a teenage girl and the librarian could be in his fourties, while the smith is an old redguard woman (with a young apprentice perhaps - who likes the maid).

Different people to choose from for each position, with different personalities and background. (I'm obviously not speaking of full blown companion style personalities here)

Custom races for the staff. This is possibly a tall order, but I love Westly's Nakan race (From his Exiles of Akavir mod). Even better if my teenage maid could be a cute Nakan girl in a kimono...

Hiring, promoting and sacking of staff. Reward and possibly punish the deserving. Possibly with your own "household" faction?

Not sure about this one, but what about giving the staff some form of morale or happiness value? If it falls too low and they leave you (maybe with something they feel you owe them - the smith might nick that ebony longsword in your display case). Promotion, suitable gifts and listening to their pet peeves improves their mood. As would solving the odd mini-quest (sack the maid's double-timing good for nothing boyfriend). Actually turning up at your estate on occason increases happiness (unless you have low Personality) and vice versa.

About the Estate
Random events. Outbreak of a common disease forces you to cure everyone, or hire someone to do it, and possibly find the source. Bandits, wild beasts in the area. Bad weather, drought, pests must be dealt with or your crops (are there crops in the mod?) are lost. Some of these could be mini-quests, others would only require minimal attention but would make running an estate something a bit more active than just sitting there and wait for the treasure chest to fill up each week.

Expanding the estate might require doing people favours and bribing others.

Throw a party! Everyone gets drunk, dances and the estate will soon have a few more children. Pay for the repairs.

Anyway, just some ideas that when they interact could help you resist the siren lure of adventure and just stay at home.

Wow! loads of ideas thank! Sadly, some of them beyond my skills though.

About the youth and the elderly: Not everyone uses Children of MW, so I've made the nursery as an optional room, but I was thinking of a COM addon (something about the maid's nephew recently orphan, a troubled teenager in need of guidance). As for the elderly, I know I should add some, as it is all my staff is young and gorgeous... will change some of them as I develop their personality.

About the maid: in my http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7502, the maid already has romantic problems and I'm planning to expand on that in this mod. All the employees have mini-quests as well.

About chosing the employees: I decided against giving the choice of race/six apart from the courtesans so that I could give a background story to each of the staff.

About the custom races: I released the mod with vanilla races, but I run it on my PC with customized races, coz, well, they're just too good and I can be only one race at a time, so seeing them in my house is good. However, to include the races in this mod would mean increasing the size of the download (it's going to be huge already) and Westly's races in particular are intented for his Elseword mod so I doubt he's give persmission (with good reasons) and finally, custom races might not please everyone.

About the staff: you already need to hire the staff (you need gold and some tools for them) and sack them. I have not implemented a promotion system (even though the Staff Agency already has a factionof its own). The happiness value I can do, if their disposition falls too low, the employee will simple leave.

About the Estate: Randon events are cool, not sure how much I can do with my current skills, but I keep your ideas in mind. There will be requirements to build certain parts of the estate like have min. 30 alchemy skill to build the lab, have a certain amount of reputation to build the feast hall, be a vampire to build the crypt as well as hve the gold, the workforce, the construction permit... Also, the amount of employees you may hire will be limited until the servant's quarters are built.

Like I said, it's a very ambitious mod so I'm taking it one step at a time, releasing small mods along the way so I get feedback and a chance to track possible problems.
