[BETA] Pegasus House

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 10:17 am

I'm assuming the instructions for use of the training facilities are just a quick mock-up at this point--numerous punctuation errors, and a few grammatical ones. Let me know if you want it corrected.

It seems odd to see an Armory and an Armoury, especially when the former is in front of the latter. What about changing Armory to "Armour Repository" or just "Armour Rack?"

Just installed the latest Beta and had a wander through Pegasus . I think , apart from some spelling errors the fable2 noted , you could very well have sorted everything out . :intergalactic:
Its such a good looking place with some much needed perks . I reckon you've just raised the bar when considering what constitutes a good house mod . Pegasus will be the standard other house mods will be measured against for sure . Oh , I just " Ran the gauntlet " . Love the changes you made there ! The walls that open are a nice touch ( at the entrance and to hide the first key ) also good placement of scrolls though I do wonder why you included a scroll of invisibility as all the creatures here have to defeated to continue . Also I was a ( admittedly well equipped ^_^ ) 1st level adventurer ( my dunmer barbarian died in the Morrowind crash last week . RIP Selim ) so it wasn't too difficult for low level characters . Oh and I meant to say that an Imperial can get into the garden shed too so that's all cool . I'll go and have a reccy around the grounds now and report back . See ya ! Greg
EDIT : Back again . No issues to report from the Crypt , the Mines and the grounds in general . Looking real good , Danae ! Some suggestions for minor tweaks :
1 . Can Nevermore the raven be given a voice ? Maybe just a crow call in response to being " clicked " on .
2 . I keep on expecting the sound track to start up some sort of Gothic music upon entering the Crypt . How about a ghost in the cells ?
3 . Syrabane Room - the Mysticism book has an annoying error in it : the list of magic schools has " Abjuration " listed instead of " Alteration " .
4 . Keep wondering if you have plans for the Menagerie . As it is , its a novel addition but having a more collector oriented menagerie could be a challenge : ( this is totally off the top of my head and feel free to just ignore it ) but wouldn't it be great to have a " pokemon style capture ability that would allow the player to add to the inhabitants of the menagerie . I reckon that's highly ambitious though so I certainly am not suggesting it in a serious manner ; its more a day-dream .
Cheers
Greg

I had to change the tile set from hlaalu to in_c_rich in my house mod for the very same reason. :/ (And with it every furniture from dunmer to imperial).

In the tamriel rebuilt mod, there are a few meshes, with which you can hide things like the vestibule problem. You could use those or create your own meshes, or ask a skilled modeller to create something for you that fixes that bug. It's even possible somebody already has done so in one mod. The community and the mod database is huge, although I was looking for a fix for this problem for weeks and couldn't find anything.

Yeah, I'm a bit bumped out about the vestibule... I think I could create meshes of the wooden bits rather than edit the Hlaalu meshes. I'll give that a go before resorting to changing the whole cell.

The instructions were indeed added last minute. I'll make a shorter version that simply says to look for 6 keys and maybe to look out for unusual walls.
Changed the name of the container in the vestibule to Arms repository.

Glad to hear about the shed not being as small as I thought it was ;) I'll remember to add a little easter egg in there.
The invisiblity scroll can be used for the BM challenge... or not.
I've been working on the quests today, it's slow going but still fun :)

Sorry I hadn't got back earlier with respect to my mod setup, but the only mod I had installed was pegasus horse ranch.
I also had a few retexture mods (textures only, no landscape mods).
I see Danae noted mge and not generating distant lands with it, I think that must be what caused the 'inside a rock' anomaly.

Yeah , I reckon that must have been it . I don't have MGE installed so that would be the only point of difference .

I kind of like the idea of what you did with the hints, to be honest--though it might help if they were more evasive. It would also give you a chance to write up something that brought into the world a bit more of Feyiin's character. Perhaps along the very general lines of, "Let me see, what was X that I found supposed to do? And wasn't Y fascinating, and perhaps I should merge it with Z? Oh dear, it formed YZ, and I guess it's best just to leave it there, and maybe to watch it and make a note about its behavior. Now, where did I put that note...?" kind of thing.

Or not. Your mod, just an idea.

Got to figure out a way to get pack guars into the estate, unless the little guar (rupert) is the only one allowed.

My character IS a wood elf, so I can get into the shed since the lantern has been moved.

Horse stables, etc. Will have to be on the mainland. I could not even get them close to the bridge, unless a boat script that treats them as companions that travel with you can be done.

The note for the gauntlet has already be shorten, something along the lines of 'don't trust what you see, look for keys and scrolls to help you bla bla"
I still need to write feyiin's book of blueprint as it currently has a very simple description of the room. So this would be a good place to show more of Feyiin's (wacky?) personality

Hi Pete :) I have to find a way round the horse problem. For now my best idea (not even mine actually) is to have stables on the mainland for the horses or, alter the landscape so a horse can reach the estate. I think the horse has enough room to go through the arch but I'll put it slighter higher, just in case since the pack guar (regular size) needs to wriggle a bit to pass.

Recent changes/additions (you'll need to wait until the Pegasus Estate beta to see them though): The return of Feyiin, he's and still needs your help. Play nice and he'll make you his heir. Meet the Majordomo, your must trusted employee and a very good advisor (in case you're stuck with a Pegasus related quest), Enrol the help of Likes-His-Mead the sailor to find the Estate, meet Brother Jonas a wise monk versed in healing magic and old friend of Feyiin's, unlock more rooms as the story progesses, hire Laghum Dar the overseer to complete unfinished room and find an expert in mysticism and enchanting to place the enchantment on the chapel door. The vestibule has been fixed (that involved changing a lot of tiles, phew), the lonboat got an upgrade. The mirrors now have a simple script and some painting s can be changed. And, ...hum, that's it.

Hi it has been a while since I used a horse in-game (about 2yrs) and I cannot remember if you need to dismount before entering doors.
If not, is it possible to have an underground tunnel from somewhere on the mainland in a more accessible area that pops up on the island so you can travel along a tunnel with a horse?
Or maybe a full blown propylon transporter!!
I won't suggest a magical archway on the mainland that shrinks a horse down to pocket size so you can carry it to the island.. LOL :ahhh:

Hi there, making a tunnel will require doors, so it's back to square one :( I will have a look at the Pegas ranch patch made for the Ultimate Galleon, might help make my own script to teleport horses as well.

Hi Danae ,
Someone else is looking into the horse issue for his own House mod . Its Latendresse and the mod is Lazslo House , ( an alchemist dream home ! Sorters for so many mods' ingredients and more planned ) . He and I have been discussing possible answers to the horse in the water problem and he may have a novel solution . If it works , I'll let you know . Cheers , Greg
PS Looking forward to renewing my acquaintance with Feyiin . Of all the Bosmer I met in game , he was by far the nicest .

Hi Greg!
Sounds good, so far I've tried to build stable on the coast and add a larger bridge but I think it looks ugly and even getting the horse to the coast is a pain since the Azura coast is a pretty rocky place..
Progress on the mod: quest for the shrines in done, next is the servant's quarters (so staff can be hired). I've scripted the mirrors, some paintings and the fireplaces.

The mirror script is pretty straightforward, you get a random message. I've made 2 scripts: for male and female. If you have any idea of something profound (not really) your char might say/think while staring at the mirror, post it here so I can add it.

The fireplaces are equipped with pokers and ash to douse the fire and make it again.

The painting above the fireplaces can be switched. I'm not sure whether I put 2 pretty paintings for the player to choose from or, if one of the painting is for the Lord and the Lady of the house. That would mean for the player to take a screenshot of their char, cut and paste on the lady.bmp (since not everyone uses targa or dds) or have the choice between a pretty painting and Eolya /Feyiin's portrait.

Ah, Feyiin has a new face (by Emma): for those who wondered how he could have nailed a beauty like Eolya, here's the answer: personality, charisma, brains http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/Danae123123/feyiin.jpg ;)

The mirror thoughts has got me thinking : something like " Am I really the Nerevarine ? " , ( which would be unisix ), " I need to smile more , Vvardenfell is making me far too serious . " ( Also unisix ) In the Lady's Bedroom " This colour scheme clashes with my hair . "( Sorry but that velvet blue theme makes my eyes ache ! That isn't a vote to remove it , as it gives a sense of the departed Lady , just a personal observation .) In the Lords Bedroom " And now to see who's in the Dibella suite " Well , droit de seigneur and all that . If some more come to me , I'll jot them down and pass 'em along .
With regards the horse issue , perhaps a stable and boat/door in the south eastern corner of the Grazelands ? It would mean needing the option to go to the near-by dock or the stable dock . Or even ( as to have a horse most people will be using Pegas ) using Pegas as a base for horse related Pegasus matters and just including a teleport amulet or some such to take the player to the land side end of the bridge .
Also , Feyiin does look improved ! Kudo's to Emma !!
Greg
PS I agree that the Azura Coast is a pain in the proverbial when on horse back . It took some effort just to get to the land-side end of the Pegasus Bridge when I was testing this problem .

Thanks for the mirror lines!
I had a look at Latendresse's house mod and the sorters are indeed quite impressive. I like the collection of containers in particular. The script he (?) used are modified versions of kwshipman's resources (original script by Rolach).
I have no NOM/ABOT sorter planned right now, as theses would be addons done at the very end but potion, soul gem and scroll sorting are nice features that the Staff could offer once hired.
Ahah, the player could rent stables at the Pegas ranch itself and possibly hire someone to take care of the horse. Arranging for transport to and from the estate would then be a simple matter. Thanks for the idea Greg, I think it's the best and least messy so far :)

Mirror thoughts part 2 :
" Its a beautiful day , I should be outside in the open dodging Cliff Racers , avoiding rats . "
" N'wah ? Why do they call me N'wah ?! What does that even mean ?!!! " ( I think that spelling is correct ...)
" No wonder everyone likes me : it isn't JUST my personality . "
" Am I being too vain and self-absorbed ? "
" E-e-excuse me ...." ( I can't remember the rest of this line off hand , but its the one that everyone stammers after the player defeats Dagoth Ur . )
" Time enough to take stock and count my blessings . "
You tell me when to stop , Danae , 'coz I'm liable to keep churning these out for a while . <_<
Cheers from Downunder ,

Yeah ! I liked the Personality one too ! I couldn't resist the Nerevarine one though ; call it an example of my some what wacky sense of humour . I agree that any line that is not always going to be applicable ( ie: Nerevarine specific ones )shouldn't be used . That being said , here's some more :
For the Lady's
" Dignity . Reserve . Imperially demure . " ( Completely hi-jacked from David Eddings book "Castle of Wizardry" . If a para-phrased version is required : " Poise , calm , elegance above all else . " )
" Bad hair day ..... "
" Hey ! This may not be the face that launched a thousand ships but I like it ! "
" Oh my ! A mirror that actually works ! "
For the Lords
" I had best clean my armour . It's starting to rust . "
" What is this ? A mirror that works ?! "
" Oh no .....a grey hair .."
" I guess some personal hygiene wouldn't hurt . "
All the best ,
Greg
PS You got me hunting down Emma's face packs . Thanks for that !

Aaaand , some more mirror thoughts :
" Do I really look like this ? Or is this mirror some kind of Daedric torture device ."
" Oh , what these eyes have seen .... "
" Looking good ! "
" Home is the hunter . "
I might just stop with these ( see post above .... ) . Hope they're useful , Danae .

Gregg, Tetchy, thanks for the Mirror lines :) I have more than 20 lines so it's ok now.
Not much to report: the quest to make the servants' quarter is done (it's a condition to start hiring staff) and the Staff Manager will only be able to hire the purely household employees (maid, housekeeper, butler..) well, that's still just under 20 employees. The other 10 are scattered across the continent and are involved in a PE quest or another.

" Home is the hunter . "

Not to be critical--but this is a near-quote of Robert Louis Stevenson's most famous poem:

"Home is the sailor,
home from the seas,
and the hunter,
home from the hills."

I may be the only person who will recall that. :P Still...it's a bit close to recalling reality.

So is:

" Hey ! This may not be the face that launched a thousand ships but I like it ! "

This is a quote from Christopher Marlowe's Faust:

"Is this the face that launched a thousand ships?"

How would Feyiin be so familiar with two examples of prime English literature? If he's going to quote anything, I'd think it would be the literature found in the books in the game.

A very late mirror suggestion, for what it's worth:

"Note to self: do not cross breed cliff racers and slaughterfish. Buy new tunic."

I couldn't remember the R. L. Stevenson quote but have seen it unattributed in more locations than I care to relate , so thanks for finding its point of origin .
The Helen of troy line ? I'm a reader of Greek mythology ( amongst many other things ) so this one simply stuck in my mind without me recollecting its origin . I did para-phrase it , though . And I will add a vote for the slaughter fish line ; Danae , please consider as its a pearler !
EDIT :
Fable , I can accept that your arguement is valid but , it is the player who is doing the looking into the mirror , not Feyiin , so some non-Morrowind references won't break immersion .

I hope references to literature won't be a major turn off since I have already included a few:
Nevermore the Raven in the graveyard, I'm planning to use him for the make your Igor quest
I have a new Argonian guard wielding a spear named Shake-His-Spear, might end up being a female guard, not sure yet.
A possible Worg companion named Dante. He's not divinely funny, but my dog is and his name is Dante (a very, very fierce beagle).

I have added scroll, potion and soul gem sorters that will be available only after hiring the alchemist and mage.
That's all for now!

http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/ is an excellent lore resource. Lets me read lore somewhere other than in the game. ;)

My guess is that I'm one of the few people who will notice this kind of thing, and it's easily shrugged off. Might get a few complaints from purists, but given how much you've done, I wouldn't sweat it.

That said, if a guard or staff person shows up named Humbert Humbert and comes onto my female battlemage, she'll probably blast him. (For anyone who cares, that's a Lolita joke.)

I have added scroll, potion and soul gem sorters that will be available only after hiring the alchemist and mage.

Good idea! I hope these staff NPCs will have a bit of individual personality revealed through dialog.
