is it just me or are other people annoyed about people banging on about COD in these forums and if things from it will be like or in the game

BRINK's whole purpose is to break away from the FPS of today, largely influenced by Call of Duty.

You could say we're trying to break free from CoD, and I find it irritating when people compare them because they clearly don't understand that BRINK doesn't want to be CoD. It doesn't want to be a mainstream FPS. It wants to be BRINK, and I find that people who compare BRINK to CoD are simply not acknowledging that.

I'm willing to tell you its cause most people here either believe CoD is overrated game, the community is known to be very competitive (theres fun competition and then theres hardcoe competition), are also known to grief anyone, and generally is a game that is hated for having everyone attention while there is other games of equal or better gameplay out there.

I'm not a CoD fan, nor do I need to bash it, I've played the game... hell, I even borrowed it for a few weeks just to play online with friends, but I still consider the game lesser compared to other games out there, I find alot of cheaper games that are still very much fun, but for CoD, I just use fun tactics.

Actually, I think Brink is aiming at being the mainstream FPS. A great number of features along with their development mentality is targeting casual FPS players the same way that the Wii targeted non gamers. They're trying a somewhat different approach than CoD, but the goal is not very different at all.

I had fun occasionally playing CoD4 (PS3) while I was in finland for a few weeks. I'll have to say tho, that I will never buy any call of duty game. By all means, the franchise has it's ups, but I just don't see the appeal of it.

CoD-slaves will not realise it, but Brink does not compare to CoD, and CoD does not compare to Brink. They're on different levels, entirely. Comparing the 2 is like comparing a rainbow to a bedsheet, doing it just doesn't make sense. Literally the ONLY thing the 2 have in common, is that they're shooters played from a first-person perspective. EVERYTHING aside that is completely different.

Now, one thing greatly worries me; the CoD community. They're an angry bunch, angsty of change. They are used to CoD, they expect every single FPS to be an exact copy of CoD, and they will bash it 5 miles into the ground in case it isn't. This WILL happen to Brink. There is no doubt in it. Once these kids realise you actually need teamplay to be effective, and there is no chopper for spawncamping until you get 6 kills, hell will break loose.

This. You speak with good sense, and I award your sense with a :spotted owl:

Just give angsty COD players the cold shoulder. If they're going to complain that BRINK is missing killstreaks, OHKs, snipers, whatever, then that's their problem. Now, I'm not suggesting that we be a hostile community and favor the members who have been here longer. I'm just saying: if a COD really devoted fan comes over here with the intent of just bashing BRINK because it's BRINK and not COD, then he can do so. He just shouldn't get attention for being an idiot. On the other hand, if a COD guy migrates to these forums and isn't harsh or critical, he will get respect, even if he still likes or plays COD.

People are allowed to have their opinions (I hate CoD myself) but the way people react to some threads is just... well I'd expect to see some of the replies on the CoD forum.

Also at 1:28 and 1:17, seems like a common theme in this map
The blue screen at 1:49, says "Robotic retrieval in progress. Best not let the arm out of your sight. It is a robot after all. Everybody knows they're going to take over the world one of these days. LOOK BEHIND YOU!

Cod are among my favorite fish to eat. Quite tasty. Can't explain all the fish hate around here. Doesn't make sense.

:whisper: Oh, that CoD! Yeah, not a well liked franchise 'round these parts. Not only the game itself, but also the CoD "crowd" that can't stop comparing everything to CoD or asking for CoD features. Have you seen the comments under some of the Brink videos on YouTube? Ugh...

I don't particularly "hate" the series myself. I'm more...disappointed in it.

*puts on flame shield*

I'm an avid COD player. I've been playing since COD4 and I still play it. Personally, I find all the hate on COD a bit irritating. Everytime I see gameplay videos of shooters that aren't COD games, I always see comments like "ZOMG looks better than Black Ops" or "This looks so much better than Crap of Doodie" and "Thumbs up if COD svcks". It's as if COD somehow in its past life was Hitler and is now taking flak because of it. I mean, seriously? Since when was COD supposed to be the next pariah in FPS's? Yeah, it isn't a perfect game, but people make it sound like it's the next Atari ET game. I'm guessing it's because COD sold so many damn copies and gained so much popularity and publicity that people suddenly have to hate it. It's like the whole hate against the Twilight books; yeah, they're mediocre books, but after selling millions of books, the series suddenly received an arseload of hate when there are clearly worse books than Twilight (like the Bible, j/k). Hell, even here I see posts passionately bashing on COD like there's no tomorrow, and that's kind of depressing to see that people become fans of games just because they don't carry the COD title. What ever happened to playing a game because it's fun, and not to rebel against a multi-million dollar franchise?

And before someone here starts calling me a fanb0y (because apparently, anyone who likes COD is automatically a COD fanb0y, according to the haters) I already pre-ordered Brink and am having a hard time trying to hold back my excitement. Yes, I'm aware Brink doesn't have killstreaks, OHK's, auto-aim, etc. But that doesn't mean I enjoy a bit of variety in the games I play.

Aside from the "release new game (which is an exact copy of the previous game) every year, hold back on release and release cut content as paid DLC" logic, the problem with CoD does not lie with the game itself, but with the community. The overwhelming majority of CoD players are whiny, spoiled, and just plain annoying. They also see "OMG GRAFIX SUX" as a valid argument when calling a game bad, and they often bash games for not being CoD. That's exactly what racism is; bashing on a person because his/her skin color is different. It makes no sense at all, nobody likes it, and it's just wrong as well (because when it comes to racism, in the end, we're all human and equal).
