People have bodys too you know!

Post » Thu Jul 28, 2011 6:04 pm

I remember back in oblivion when I was in first person and looked down it was like all I was were a pair of arms it didnt show the body or legs. Most FPSs atleast have legs when you look down so my question is would you want to be able to look down and see a fully body you know torso, legs the whole nine yards?

While it would be nice as an option, I would probably have it turned off in my game. Why have my machine having to constantly render something I usually don't see anyway? It's a small enough thing that I'd rather dispense with it for the sake of performance.

Hmm. As far as I was aware, it wasn't all that common. I've certainly never played an FPS with legs. (Not that I'm a vast consumer of FPS, but still... :))

so my question is would you want to be able to look down and see a fully body you know torso, legs the whole nine yards?

Nope, not interested at all. The videos of the one Oblivion mod that did this.... looked pretty bad. And the Arma II video I saw that demonstrated this... really didn't do anything for me. Not sure what the point is. (Of course, I don't need legs & shoulders being thrown around to keep me from knowing my character isn't just "a camera and two forearms".)

(edit: in a game where it has some actual in-game, gameplay reason to exist - like Mirror's Edge - having a full body is a good thing. But just for looks, in any random FPS? Meh.)

I'd love to see my characters' legs and feet when I look down, why? Immersion + realism.

I don't really see the point of looking down and seeing your legs it might feel realistic...but you can just switch to 3rd person to see your legs.

Well I'll spend most of my time with my head up, not staring down at the ground. So no, doesn't bug me at all.

I wouldn't mind either way. If it is there then I can see my knees and feet. If it isnt there then it will be that much easier to find that ring I dropped among the endless cobblestones of the road.

I mostly play f3rd person and I would LOVE 1st person legs. I hate the "floating arms" 90% of FPS games do.

While reletivly minor, and wont destroy the game, I just think it would be nice. And if you are tlaking hardware performance... Please... Technically your computer will always be rendering it, or at least have it in memory, so the gained performance by not having it is so small, it is hardly worth mentioning.

If they put in first person kicking animation, they will need to put in the legs.

In other words, no first person legs
= no first person kicking
= no kicking at all

No saying it's a big deal, just more stuff to do for Mr Skycaptain

It really didn't bother me, what-so-ever..... And, The Elder Scrolls are not known for being First Person Shooters, by the way .

the game is rendering your body anyway, since you can go to 3rd person at any time. there is no performance hit.

I don't think it's rendering it while you're in first person.

Provided that the engine is coded well, anything not visible should not be being rendered.

This is a feature that I really like in the few first person games that have/support it. It just feels so weird to me to look down and see nothing, and I love looking at my own character, in 3rd person and first person.

The people who say 'why have legs in first person when you can see them in third person' to me sounds like 'why have color televisions, you can see color in real life'

"The videos of the one Oblivion mod that did this.... looked pretty bad." This was because of the way oblivion handles first person, in which your entire characters body would rotate if you looked up or down, so this feature wasn't really supported, and had to be cheated in an awkward and unnatural way.

Also, "While it would be nice as an option, " for the number of times people say this for suggested game features, the games option menu would be a 500 page novel.... :glare:

I think it would be great, although its not too important.

Anyone ever stood with their backs facing a wall and looked down?? I hate that when you're in first person.. :hubbahubba:

The only other game I play that I know of that shows other parts of your character's body in first person is Mount & Blade. You look down, you can see your shield and your boots I think.

While it's a cool feature, it doesn't much bother me if it's a feature not included. Especially if rendering it is a drain on resources, when you don't always see it anyway. I don't know much about these things though.

I'd rather not have a big ol' body cluttering my view of the ground, cause I'm probably looking down there for a reason. Seeing a body is just pure aesthetics, and while they are very nice, are not needed to know that my character has legs.

If you watch some of the Battlefield 3 multiplayer when you get knocked down you see your arms and legs. Looks very cool. This would be nice but not a necessity.

Not that i'm trying to stereotype women or make fun of them in any way, but maybe some women can't see their legs and feet when they look down. All they'll see are their boobs...
