"People of New Vegas"

Post » Sun Sep 12, 2010 7:44 pm

It's quite frustrating.
When talking about the game's two main factions, most people that say they'll be going neutral or their own way say that they'll be siding with 'the People of New Vegas'. Now, this is ALWAYS mentioned by people, but I've never heard this actually confirmed as of yet. Are people just making stupid assumptions or am I an idiot and have missed it mentioned in some sort of interview?
I just don't know why people assume that the people of New Vegas would be opposed to the NCR, and why being neutral automatically means you're siding with the people?

There's 4 paths. NCR, Caesar's Legion, ally with Mr. House, and against Mr. House.

Who is the leader of the people? There has to be a hierarchy?

Thanks. Do you know this for sure though? Do you have a source or anything?
I also don't understand how Mr. House could be against the people, as all he seems to do is sit up at the Lucky 38 and ensure the Strip stays in order.
Then again, I don't know the plot, and Mr. House likely has a lot to do with the package and your attempted murder.

The story structure is one of the main differences between Fallout 3 and New Vegas. There was only one main story in Fallout 3; it could go in a few ways, depending on your Karma, but you were hitting the same story beats. New Vegas has a much more non-linear story, and you determine how it plays out. About halfway through, the game presents you with a few “very different possibilities”: you can side with one of two factions, Caesar’s Legion or the New California Republic, or with Mr. House (he’s the overseer of New Vegas; this is the independent route). You can also go against Mr. House and still be independent, “so it’s four paths, but [really] more like three and a half.” There’s some overlap between the paths, but each one has its own unique quest, and “the order in which you do everything is very different depending on which route you go down.”

It hasn't been confirmed that Mr. House himself is a "faction", or that he's against the people of New Vegas. At the moment we only know of three [of the four] factions; NCR, Caesar's Legion, and the People of New Vegas.

I remember hearing that there would be four factions from Larry Liberty in a video months back and confirming that the people of New Vegas is the third of the four factions. Check the Vault news for Fallout: New Vegas, because I personally am not going to rummage through the newsfeed trying to find which video it was.

Edit: Nevermind. Apparently going with or against Mr. House are the remaining two factions.

No, because I think people got the idea of 'People of New Vegas' from being able to side with a faction against House.

If the main story has four paths to choose (ncr, cl, with house, against house) where does people of new vegas fit in?

I would think siding with House IS the 'People of New Vegas', because until otherwise, it would seem Mr.House is the last best hope for New Vegas, according to the All Roads preview, it said soemthing akin to New Vegas being a lawless mess, and Mr. House arose and help bring order to New Vegas, and the people on The Strip sure as hell look happy and content.

However, this is all Pre-Release info so my opinion could very well be invalidated upon release.

I tend to agree with Colonel Martyr, I think siding with House = siding with the people of New Vegas.

I doubt the people of New Vegas care, or know much about the politicking going on. You guys think the average New Vegas resident knows anything about the NCR, Caeser's Legion, or House for that matter? You're probably giving them too much credit; it looks like they're too busy just reveling in vices to me.

House or the independent ending are probably the closest the player can get to siding with the people of Vegas. I doubt the NCR would permit what will be going on in Vegas to happen in their vision of a sanitized wasteland, and the Caeser's Legion would likely enslave many of them.

I think the People of New Vegas are the completely good path. NCR is good when compared with Caesar's Legion, but they still do things that are pretty evil for their own benefit. Caesar's Legion is pretty evil, but they also do some good things because it's in their best interest. It's a bit more realistic that way. I'm not really sure how it's all going to work out, but it seems a whole lot more deep than Fallout 3.

We really haven't been given any indication that this is the case, though. For all we've heard about House, I really haven't seen anything to show that the people of New Vegas aren't fond of him. Honestly, I'd think people living in a post apocalyptic wasteland would welcome someone who brings order to chaos and protects them from the horrors of the post apocalyptic world, even if maybe he isn't an ideal ruler in some ways, it certainly can't be worse than what they'd get out in the wasteland, and in any case, I don't think we've been told what perspective the people of New Vegas have on House, or any of the factions, for that matter. I don't see much basis to assume that being against House would be fighting for the people of New Vegas.

Why are the NCR considered "good" compared to CL on the forums?

Bascialy the whole Mr House bit is where the 3.5 comes from, you either end up on one side or the other, kind of as if they had modifided the extended ending of Fallout + Fallout BS so that you can side with president eden, insert the virus, then take out a rouge band of Enclave and drop an orbital bombardment on the Citadel.

Because of peoples sense of Morality. I think of them as better than the NCR, but I'm intent on whats best for New Vegas, so I may side with the city.

We don't know enough about NCR really.
All we've heard is "Well I guess you could call NCR the "Good" guys".
So since NCR isn't enslaving people and crucifying them while CL is people just assume that they are like Lyons BOS in terms of karma.

It's really funny that everyone is like fawning over the NCR being the "good" guys. If we look more into it, remember that the NCR wants what they think is good for Vegas. They are the people who will offer to protect your city, and if you refuse to let them occupy, they'll come in anyways, with force. So, yes, they are "better" than CL. But they aren't some super nice people. I expect that they are on a power trip, and the soldiers use their "authority" to take advantage of any civilians as they see fit.

Give that some thought.

I will probably work with the people. But, I kinda want to work against all of them.

Eh  thats their perogative. I've played Fallout 2, I've seen their sinister choices, but I feel they are the greater good. I MIGHT side with them, but until furthernotice, I'm a Mr.House fan boy, so I may stick to New Vegas xD
