Do people play WoW anymore?

Post » Sun Feb 06, 2011 11:06 pm

I've kinda been interested in playing WoW for quite some time now, but never had the money to buy any of it.

but since i do now i wanted to know if there is still a big community and a lot of people still play it.
Also, would i have to buy the Cataclysm Exspansion or could i just buy the Battlechest and Wotlk

and, im downloading the trial this very second so if anyone is willing to play with me send me a PM.

Depends if you classify 12 million people as "big".

Millions of them, sadly enough.

You'll find no shortage of players.

Uh...last I checked, it was advertised as having 12 million subscribers. It's the single biggest most successful MMO on the market, and is nowhere near folding.

Regardless, it sounds like you're on a budget, and MMOs are not games you should play while short on cash.

I long for the days of Warcraft II, sadly, Blizzard will never go that route again. I have hopes for Diablo III and Starcraft II, but I'm waiting until all the expansion sets are out, so that they will be complete. Unlike the Starcraft II campaign.

You need Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King for Cataclysm to even work. I don't recommend getting any expansions till you are at the level cap. (ie: get BC at level 60, WotLK at level 70, and Cata at level 80)

What, the route with no storyline?

I wish WoW died.

Then again, MMOs don't often die, and when they do, it's often when a company doesn't want to support the lone guy fixing bugs and such.

WoW's player base has been doing nothing but increasing over the last 2 years, so yes, people still play WoW. 12 million people to be more precise.
We also have a http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1168153-unofficial-world-of-warcraft-discussion-thread-14/ here where many of us talk about WoW.

Also, what's with all the anti-WoW comments? Are you guys 8 years old? Your personal opinion of something has nothing to do with the popularity of something. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not a great game. Stop acting like that, it makes you look arrogant, extremely short-sited, and hypocritical. You're on a gaming forum mocking/sniveling at people who play a certain game.

Don't bother...

WoW is the one game where just as many love to hate it as those who love to play it, that's how you know its great. :)

So just get the normal old WoW until i hit the cap?

The only thing any of the expansions will get you before those levels are new races, Blood Elf, Draenei, Worgen, and Goblin, and one new class available at 55 from WotLK. Other than that, vanilla WoW will see you to 60 just the same.

Which takes all of a couple weeks of somewhat frequent play anymore. Leveling is ridiculously fast now.

Might save money if you start with the Battle Chest.

Yeah 1-60 is like a week, but Outland and Northrend are mind-numbingly slow in comparison.

Long time player and I'm still playing. Send me a PM if you need help getting set up, I remember being a WoW noob, was pretty intimidating. Glad I had my friend to guide me through it. (I remember walking through Ironforge for the first time... taking the tram, really weird feeling)

Sorry but no, that argument makes absolutely no sense. What does a food critic have to do with this situation? A food critics job is to critique food for the masses. It's not your job on this forum to make snide remarks regarding people who play a certain type of video game.

Well the entire world has changed since the Cataclasym so you the 1-60 content is new. The Burning Crusade is 60-70 and WOTLK 70-80 and Cata is 80-85 so you dont need any of the expansions untill you hit the cap. Also Id be glad to play with you on alliance or horde. We could even do Recruit-A-Friend if thats still around if I remember right when in a party with a recruit a friend you get triple the Exp

It's got a deeper storyline and set of lore then TES ever did.

Warcraft II? It has short text briefings before each mission that don't really say anything important, and a few short FMVs.

Not only do you get triple experience, IIRC you can grant levels up to level 60 and you each get a rocket mount.

As for the haters, WoW is one of the few games that brings them out of the woodwork (Oblivion seems to be another on here). Most of them have never played the game or only touched the surface. WoW has a vast amount of content, a deep story line, excellent gameplay, and tons of people to help you if you ever get stuck on something. If you ever need to get hold of a GM for some in-game problem you usually get a quick response. (unlike other MMO's where they're non-existent)

Just ignore them. There is a reason why Cataclysm had the best first day sales amount for a PC game.
