Think about it. Shields are for blocking, swords are for swinging

Ah, I can see the Mia'q line now

he means that some one handed weapons can be gripped with two hands for extra power but a slower swing.

Think Lightsaber, which is essentially a one handed sword

Pay attention, notice how Anakin puts both hands onto the saber to hit Obi Wan wit more foce than if he had one hand, although this limits manuevarability

Please take a look at the illustration I linked to. This isn't hard to understand. There are situations when a combatant braces a blade with the second hand in order to block.

, what is wrong with introducing new mechanics,
@ Pseron Wyrd, interesting tactic, but I think using a Longsword as a short claymore (for blocking only) would be a lot easier to integrate

I don't recall WHERE I heard it just that I did. There would be other members who recall though. They might be able to link if they remember the source.

i thought i read somewhere that weapons have a damage and a block rating. wouldnt that mean if you have a one handed weapon with nothing equiped in off hand (spell or weapon) that i could block?

What would be the point of a one handed and two handed skill then?

But...it's a light saber. I'm pretty sure that the force behind the wing makes no difference in the damage it does as it's a super lazer beam that will go straight through no matter how hard you swing it right?
I know this is kind of beside the point but just saying.

Yea I remember hearing about that. Where did this "one handed weapons can't block" business stem from anyway? I haven't seen a source for it, just hear people talking about it.

Logically, if one hand holds a sword and the other has a spell, torch, or what have you, which button do you press to block?

Logically, if you are holding a weapon and a torch, can you now light things on fire with your torch as an attack?

In one of the GI updates, or one of the magacines, is stated that you can block pushing both buttons.

wasn't that for duel wielding two weapons? not sword and spell, and what happens if you want to use two power attacks?

As I recall, with a shield at least, you tap the button to block, but hold to shield bash. So with dual-wielding I would imagine holding both buttons would either initate a dual power attack or you do something like a shield bash and attempt to push your opponent back.

someone posted a todd interview where todd said you hold to block and you press the attack button while blocking to shield bash, but i have not watched it in a while, i could be wrong.
