To people that avoid fast travel.

See the poll. I'm curious.

I used to fast travel everywhere, but when I swooped my saves away and started anew, I made the policy not to fast travel. My Nord warrior has fast traveled only once, when I was too bored to walk from Halted Steam Camp to Whiterun. But otherwise, the 26 hours on him are completely fast travel-free. I even go to High Hrothgar on foot when need there be.

I use carriages and that boat in Dawnstar a lot, though, but I don't count it as fast traveling since it was obviously meant to be in the same way there were silt striders in Morrowind.

It's really more rewarding to play like that, and I've discovered many new things and all in all it feels like there is more to do when I'm not just blitzing through every quest and faction.

There are many time where i would rather leg it but thanks to the PS3 preformance issues foot travel can be unpleasant at times. It's hard to emmerse yourself when there is a lag spike every so often.

Like Pistolero, I too would FT everywhere. I eventually reduced that to only FT when packing gear. I then reduced that to only carriages. I actually have FT disabled as to not employ the temptation. What I have found, is that makes the world feel much larger.

... and promotes the use of a horse.

I used to avoid fast travel because it took too much time (ingame). Then i found out the setting to control the time it takes was poorly set and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19389/?, and now i fast travel more, but still prefer walking.

If I am playing a character that has been using Fast Travel, then I will continue to play them that way.

My newer characters do not normally employ Fast Travel, but will enjoy Carriages. I can tell the characters apart by the differences between Hours Played, and character level. Fast Travel has its uses, but I enjoy the Wilderness Encounters. Salmon Fishing is a newer hobby for many of My characters that Fast Travelling can make difficult.

I really hate when a character that does not use Fast Travel has a CTD without a recent Save, I have lost hundreds of Hours of Gameplay by accident :swear:

I used to be a fast travel hokerr, but now I'm getting into the habit of walking more. The devs spent countless hours putting together this beautiful world, so I'm going to walk and admire the scenery as I go.

Plus, the other NPCs don't have the 'magical transport ability', so it wouldn't be fair to warp to a new location in seconds while they have to walk there. :P

I typically only employ fast travel when I am in a quick gaming session and need to travel a great distance. Otherwise, in a regular session no fast travel outside of carriages.

Only if I don't feel like walking across the entire map to find some guy's sword, then I may fast travel if I don't have alot of time, and even then, it's with a carriage. I usually walk wherever I need to go.

On the occasions that I play, I fast travel more during/for quests than in between. I'll fast travel to High Hrothgar all the time because it is a pain and I fast travel to or near quest destinations, but I criss-cross Skyrim between quests on foot.

for a person that has very little free time to play games like me, fast travel is a must unfourtionately, as otherwise id barely get 1 quest done in a week's time  although whenever possible i do travel on foot, short distances for example :D

I only use paid transport with an exception. Winterhold, Dawnstar, and Morthal. You can take a carriage to them, but not from them. So If I am at those towns or take a carriage to them I can fast travel to another town with a carriage. Pretty much I just pretend that they do have a carriage. I thought it was dumb that you can go to them but not from them.

I don't know if I should make an exception for Hearthfire houses or not, I'm not sure how long it takes to get to them from the nearest town. Actually, I think I will walk to them, but allow my self to fast travel to them from any town with a carriage after I have hired a carriage for my house.

My preference is always paid transportation or nothing at all. I have no rush to finish x amount of quests, or pawn x amount of loot, per night. The next beth games are most likely still years away, I have a lot of time.

Never fast traveleld in oblivion, although, they reward your for doing that ( athletics ) and i dont do it in skyrim either, even though there is no incentive not to FT. I hope in the next TES they bring back athletics, acrobatics, and mysticism.

I only use fast travel that feels realistic. Carriages, boats, Mages Guild portals, propylon chambers etc. Skyrim only has the first two, but if it had others I'd use them.

There is nothing to fix here. Fast travel is set on "walking time"; the mod sets it to "running time". Not logical; nobody would be able to run all the way from Riften to Solitude, never.

Last option for me. :P

After about 1,100 hours I do it more often than not now. It just saves me time and I think I've pretty much seen all there is to see in the game anyway. I still walk around at times though, especially if it's still daylight.

Oh? I always run everywhere. Even with having a mod that depletes stamina when running, and another that that makes combat depend much more on stamina :hehe:

Are we talking about running or sprinting?

Or walking, as in... over encumbered?

For many of the same reasons I don't use fast travel. I'll pay for Carriage transport, but only if say... I'm going from Riften to Solitude. My avatars have hoofed it pretty much everywhere, and it's the new things and places I discover on those travels that makes it all worthwhile. You're very much correct though, it does help to not seem like you're just blazing through a questline. Going it on foot is simply a much better way to discover (sometimes the only way) all of the little, unmarked content that the devs have hidden in the game.

That's why I chuckle at people who say: "I've done everything, every questline, every side-quest. I'm done with Skyrim as there's nothing left to discover". I chuckle because I find myself thinking: "If only you knew what you're missing...".

:D
