Per-character saves

Post » Sun Mar 07, 2010 9:47 pm

One nice feature of recent Bioware games is that they completely separate each character's saves from one another -- you have to explicitly change characters to fool around with a different character's savegames, which makes accidentally wrecking the progress of another character much more difficult. It seems like a good idea, not difficult to implement, and without much in the way of drawbacks. So... just tossing it out there, Bethesda. I'd appreciate it if you put that in.

Oh yes definitely, the way it was done in DA:O was quite nice in my opinion, after my third play-through and going back to see my first character it felt really cool.

I've accidentally deleted characters an embarrassing amount of times. I support this.

Yes, excellent idea. This shouldn't be too hard to implement now, either.

I am for this as well.

I have also gotten saves mixed up, deleted some wrong things, and generally had a headache.

I don't see why anyone would complain about this.

I support this idea.

I want to be able to name saves. It was Months before I figured out I could do it in console with OB, whats the difference between save 1000 and save 1010? they both the same char, same area, same level. WHY DID I SAVE THIS HERE? It has to be important or it wouldn't be here. Argh. Why not implement standard PC features on a PC game in spite of its release on a console system.

I strongly support this idea, but would like to be able to view other saves at anytime. A "tick this box to hide other characters" would be ideal. If not possible than. OP's system is better than OB's system. While we're at it, I'd like to be able to sort saves by character, level, time (of save), game time, and even size. Further options would be nice (sort by character's specific skill, attribute, wealth, quests completed etc. ) but would be unnecessary and could cause clutter.

Yes. Hell yes. I had a level 50 Oblivion character who was head of all guilds, done every quest and DLC, and cleared most of the dungeons, and my brother autosaved over it in favour of Pamplemousse the Argonian Ass-Cowboy.

I would need an entirely new save system dedicated to goldfish brains, but whatever. :P I support anyway that suggestion because it's ultimately tidier.

*edit* Only remotely related, but I wonder if it could be possible to actually write in the journal. I tend to play by ten hours binges but only when I have time to, which tends sometimes to make my sessions far apart. Goldfish brains = can't tell what's where and what I must do.

I've thought of this several times. I hardly ever use journals, but when I want to and its not there it is a huge disappointment.
I almost put this in my other post, but thought it too off topic. but, yes, I support this idea too.

There were mods for this in Morrowind but it was buggy. I really, really, really want this as a standard feature in Skyrim. I'm a novelist; I write novels. I'd kind of like to approach my game as something of a first-person novel.

Same. Beats sticking post-its all over your game box. :P

Eh, yeah. Some people liked to post their rp/progress in the game on the forums as a journal, and some were very funny. Plus, if it's my bloody journal, why can't I edit or add to it. Just seems weird is all.

Anyway, sorry for the OT. Per character saves, on which so far we all agree. :P
