Performance Mods?

Post » Tue Jan 26, 2010 5:19 am

Are there any performance mods released or being worked on for New Vegas yet? I've tried the dll fix, tried enabling it to use 4 GB with CFF Explorer, and tried the Stutter Remover. I can run it at Medium graphics (minus shadows) but I still notice some stutter/frame skipping. If we could just generally get a performance thread going, that would be great.

btw, I have it on my 360 and I've been playing it a lot. I've already done three playthroughs, but just like Fallout 3 and Oblivion, I always have the urge to come back to the PC game because of the fantastic modding community Bethesda's games have.

EDIT:

By the way, I can't seem to use NV 4 GB and Stutter Remover at the same time. If I use CFF Explorer as a Large Address Aware enabler, the .bat for Stutter Remover does not load the game.

EDIT 2:

Ignore that. Looks like Stutter Remover was just updated for LAA's.

Stutter Remover + LAA work together now, joy! Gameplay seems smoother. Although there is more stuttering than I saw before around NPCs. I tried using the console command to disable emotions, that didn't fix anything.

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35719 - very similar to Taking out the trash for FO3. Vaults seem awfully clean after the mod is loaded but the performance is noticeably better (for me at least, I'm using a 3 year old core2duo machine).

Check out the .ini changes at the tweakguides page for fallout 3. Most of them work for New Vegas' fallout_default.ini file, and have helped me improve my performance massively. Make sure to create a backup though.

Awesome, thank you! Downloading now. I'm using a laptop I just bought earlier this year. It was a great value with 4 gigs of ram and Windows 7 and all. Unfortunately, the integrated graphics and the processor aren't exactly impressive.

I messed around with my ini a bit too much in Fallout 3 and it caused a lot of issues. I'll be backing my file up before I start, of course. Hopefully I can get a nice boost this time. Oh, and what .ini do I edit? I've heard people saying that you edit the FalloutPrefs.ini, but for Oblivion, Morrowind, and Fallout 3 it was always the other one.

Using LAA, ATI dll fix, and stutter remover, but I've still got the micro-stutter issue while moving around. I even put my graphics at Low, and while the framerate wasn't an issue, the micro-stutter was still there.

I also use Game Booster 2 and Advanced System Care's turbo (both from IOBit), two or three performance mods, and with ini tweaking. Still got that micro stutter.

Anyone know how this problem could be solved?

You on ATi/AMD graphics?
Try the 10.10c hotifx drivers. http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU86AMDCat1010cHotfix.aspx

Thanks, I was actually just looking at the site to update my drivers. Didn't see this one though, I'll give it a try as soon as I can.

Whoa, I didn't expect this to change too much since I have an integrated card.. maybe I'm crazy, but this made a huge difference. It was running pretty smooth on Medium graphics with shadows off, so I bumped the texture size up to High and its still running at a playable framerate. Thanks a ton!

Does anyone know if the http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34778, work for the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD graphic card?
Thanks in advance :]

Okay, I did put this in my FO:NV folder and now it selects medium video settings for me. But when I play I see no difference. Am I doing something wrong?

You need to set whichever graphics settings you want to use yourself, the D3D9 file resets the settings and usually doesn't set them appropriately according to your graphics card.

And by doing that, setting my settings to low again WITH the "d3d9.dll" file it'll enhance my Fallout: NV performance? If so, by how much do you think or it is usually? 2x better than without the "d3d9.dll" file?
