Perk level up?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:15 pm

Okay, so a question and a poll. I have heard some things about how perks will stop after lvl 50, and some that don't. For those who don't know, it has been said that 50 is the top level or something alon those lines, I won't pretend to understand. And it's been said you will only pick 50 perks and it has been said that you can continue leveling after this though.

So, your opnion. Should we get more perks after 50 if there is no definitive lvl cap?

I say yes. There are roughhly 200 perks in game I beleive I read somewhere, and if so, you would need to get to Lvl 200, which noones gonna do easily really.

(Note: If any info is wrong here I apologise)

noone is getting to level 200.. the perk systems will probably be less complex than you're making it sound :celebration:

I voted no out of altruism.
I know how obsessive people can be over these kind of things.
Having a game that is soft capped to lvl50 with the possibility to grind 150 lvl's higher to get a perfect character will destroy those peoples lives.

I'd rather have a game that is so good that I just want to do the timewarp and start a new character with a different set of perks.

There is no level cap, it's just extremely slower to get leveled up after you hit a certain cap (which is I believe level 50...)

Also, I read this on gamerant.com i believe...

(and if I need to remove that please tell me, I will...)

I think I read somewhere that you will not be able to get every perk in the game.

Technically you could, unless some game mechanic makes you unable to...

Which is basicly what i was trying to say. The qwuestion is is that because of a cap on perks at 50 or because noone is gonna fairly get to level 200 even with lots of playing? because there is a massive difference.

A weakness of Oblivion was that all characters were essentially the same class, albeit with a difference in Birthsign. Replayability was difficult for anyone who understood this. The entire point of roleplaying is to defeat the game using different classes, and thus different play styles. Limiting each character so that they are unique for each playthrough, is easily the best design decision that could be made. A game without rules is not a game. Removing gameplay, such as character uniqueness, is essentially removing an aspect of the game - it removes rules. Thus, having perks be limited, as to promote more play throughs, utilizing different play styles, is essentially adding a set of gameplay rules that promote roleplaying. It's a good thing!

No, the new perk system is excellent for making unique characters that are different in ability and play style from each other, and prolongs replay value.

Having a character who could get everything in one setting would destroy that.

50 levels soft cap....i believe we'll only get to pick 50 perks, even if you go past 50.
Once you go past 50 i think perks will stop, but health, magic, and stamina will still go up.
It adds to the replay value. I say no more than 50,on each playthrough.

They said you stop getting perks past 50 but I'm sure someone will mod that.

You get 50 perks and that should be what you get and all you get. The soft cap is 50th level after that its far slower leveling as it should be. They said max level will likely be around 75th level at which point you would be 100 in every skill.

Voted no, in fact I'm confident I will end up thinking that leveling is too fast anyway. So as the perks are the *defining* traits of your character, by stopping it at some point, you end up with a well defined character that hopefully still balances out well. In dice games, even if I became a ridiculously powerful character in the class I picked or created, I would still be that class because the system used skills way differently. In TES we have extremely limited number of skills, but instead we get to have them all. Although we get the skill increases, we don't get the perk benefits, so I won't exceed my expected capabilities. That is what I'm hoping for anyway.

If in fact the theoretical max level does turn out to be something like 75, then I see no reason not to let you pick a perk every level. Its not like an extra 25 perks out of 280 is going to be over the top. If someone wants to sit down and figure out how they can game the system to make it to that high of a level, then I think there should be a little reward for it.

I'm sure there will be a mod out pretty soon after release that removes the soft cap and/or gives you perks after level 50.

There is no level cap so you can theretically go on forever if they did what they did in the last games where going to jail lowers your skills, thus allowing you to level up forever. But what they may do is what they did in New Vegas and only give a perk every other level. So this would mean you have to be level 100 to max out your perk capacity (they said the player can only receive 50 perks there will be more than 50, I think I heard 200 somewhere).
