1 Perk per Level , Doesn't Seem Enough ...

Post » Sun Aug 07, 2011 1:19 pm

I've been thinking about this and I just realized that 1 perk per level for 50 levels is no where near enough to experience most of the game's features in one play-through .
You only receive perks in the first 50 levels , after that you only gain a , Health , Magicka or Stamina/Fatigue boost .
The game has over 280 perks and perk upgrades which is an average of 15/16 perks and perk upgrades per Skill and you only get to pick 50 of them which is less than 18% of the total number of perks in the game ! not only that but, because there are about 15/16 perks per skill that means you can almost exhaust ALL your perk points into just 3 skills :shocking: .That's not even enough to roleplay ! since there are 6 skills for every archtype ...

This actually means that if you wanted to experience all the perks you will have to play the game 6 times with 6 different characters , level all of them to 50 and choosing entirely different perks each time ....

The devs increased the rate at which the player level up , so now the player levels up a lot faster than previous games .They have obviously done that because they believed it was too boring to just pick an Attribute to boost and one perk every once and a while ,and that the player wouldn't feel very accomplished, so they spiced it up a bit and increased the leveling rate .
This could have been resolved in a better fashion , by increasing the perks you get to choose every level to 2 instead of just one and keep the leveling speed to what it originally was (30-35) this way you feel more powerful everytime you level up and you actually acquire more perks overall ...

I know I haven't played the game and that it's too early to judge the new system without knowing everything about it but , it is still worth mentioning and considering .

Tell me what you think about the fact that you can only acquire 50 of the over 280 perks and perk upgrades in the game ...

Isn't it a GOOD thing? It requires you to make your character unique and special. How boring it would be if you could get every perk in the game. Your character would be everyone and no one at the same time. This allows you to personalize your character much more, as well as adding replayability.

If you have a PC I wouldn't worry because any weird choices the Developers make will be remedied via mods…..

Considering my NV and FO3 characters, somewhat, ended up the same in some aspect, I am glad we can only have 50/280+ perks! That's much more perks for other characters I'll make in the future, and make them more unique.

Re-playing is one reason, another not to make your character all-powerful. You know, so powerful that you could punch someone and they would fly 234ft up and you may never find them. -yay for the level cap :3-

People have been saying this since January, but I have yet to see any article, interview or video where any of the devs mentioned that from level 51 to level 70 (or whatever is the mathematical cap), that we stop receiving new perks at level up.

Perhaps it is true, but if you have any kind of source at all for this info, I would love to see it.

I have a feeling that there will be special perks that you can earn from quests/guilds and what not.

The specialization associated with 50 out of 280 is pretty cool, so I prefer just that 50... that's really more than 50 due to the soft level cap allowing what I presume may be at least 10-20 more perks and levels... albeit difficult to achieve.

What was great about oblivion and morrowind was that you could be whoever you wanted to be and level as many skills as you desired .
50 perks out of 280 means that you have to play the game 6 times and choose totally different perks everytime , I'm sorry but that's insane !

I suspect this will be one of the first things that mods will modify. But I do like that they limit it, as in real life no person can learn absolutely everything.

I'm sorry but that's exactly what was wrong with the last games.

You should not be a master of all trades.

That's not role playing.

There is a level cap??? Since when??? I thought level 50 was deemed to be the final level, but you can keep progressing, although it's incredibly slow to level from there and you don't get perks.

50 perks per character, gained at a rate of 1 per level, seems perfect to me.

If you want to experience them all in one playthrough, you're just SOL.

Once all your skills have hit 100 (somewhere around level 70-80), you can't gain any more levels. Because you have no more skill points to gain.

I'm also pretty sure that of the 280 perks, not all of them will be as interesting as they seem either. So, for some there's probably going to be a certain amount of perks that appeal to them. Although, there's always those who will want to try out everything. I wouldn't be surprised if there were an achievement for unlocking a number of perks on a multitude of playthroughs.

I like having 50. Makes each choice feel critical and vital to my character. Also, if I don't feel ready to place a perk upon leveling, there's always the choice to wait and see what perk applies to my character at a later time.

I'm pretty sure I have watched and read every interview - certainly every one that has been posted in this forum.

None of the ones I have read or watched have ever mentioned that you stop receiving perks at level 51.

The closest thing that I read was something to the effect that Fallout was a level 1-20 game, Skyrim is a level 1-50 game, and the mathematical cap is somewhere between level 70-80.

Never seen anything that states we stop earning new perks at level 51. I might be mistaken, but AFAIK, we continue receiving perks until it is no longer possible to increase character level. So the perk cap is somewhere around 70 - 80 perks.

RAGE!!!!!!!

Why do all you people want ot play godly characters, thats the whole [censored] point of 50 perks so that you odnt become a god and dont get to have everythign in one play through, it is to make your character unique. AGHHHHHHHH\

What is with kids these days?

EDIT: And you can increase your level indefintely by going to jail and losing skills adn then earning them back.

50 perk points is nowhere near enough to even roleplay, 50 perks are only enough to focus on 3-4 skills , and there are 18 of them , supposedly 6 for every archtype , you should at least be able to focus on 6 skills not 3 .
and even if 50 was enough which it could be , I think choosing one perk per level is not very rewarding .... increasing your 2 handed weapon damage 20% after an entire level and nothing else , doesn't feel rewarding ..
