Perk Planner

Post » Sat Dec 03, 2011 7:51 am

Hi all,

First just a note to the mods. This kind of falls into a grey area since this isn't really a mod which is why I am posting it in general and I am not entirely sure if this would be considered advertising so.... I'll just apologize in advance :D Feel free to move / lock if you need to.

Just wanted to let everyone know I created a Perk Planning spreadsheet.

After some time FINALLY getting to play this amazing game I started to realize I kinda spread myself too thin with perks. I am sure I am not alone, when I say it was easier to just start a new character rather than trying to suffer through it :)

I made this tool to help plan ahead this time and I have to say, it has helped me tremendously planning out my character(s). So I decided to upload it to Nexus and let everyone know about it.

Hope you are all enjoying the game as much as I am and hope this may help some of you.

WOW! What a coincidence! I just (5 minutes ago) Googled 'Skyrim perks' looking for a kind of calculator. Thanks, Daphne!

Quick question, this spreadsheet assumes you are capable of having 80 perks. Wasn't there supposed to be a max of 50 perks ? Also if there was supposed to me a max of 50 perks I've herd this said in two different ways.

"You stop getting perks at level 50" Which would mean you only get 49 perks since you don't get perk at level 1.

And...

"You can only get 50 perks" which would then run on the assumption that you get your last perk at level 51.

So is the spreadsheet correct and if it is not then which one of the two lines above is correct ?

Out of curiosity did the Nexus link show up on Google yet? Also I suggest either tracking the file or at least check back in a few days or so. I mentioned on the description that it would be most likely the final version, but someone PM'd me some edits adding a few other features I plan to incorporate so there will be at least one more version.

Nice work, simple and elegant. Definately going to use this!

I'm just wondering what "General Chnages" are. Is that dragon tongue?

Nice! Glad to see at a quick glance, I was not off track with the build I was running so far before seeing this.

Neither of these are correct, this is outdated info from early development.

I have personally confirmed you do in fact continue to get perks for EVERY level until all your skills are at 100.

Now here is the catch the lvl 81 max is not a hard FIXED cap. What does that mean? That means there is some variation in the max level you can possibly attain depending on how you play your character and level up your skills. This is due to how much skills contribute to your overall level depending on what level the skill is itself. It works out to be relatively minor by the end of the road but it exists.

So say you are in the tutorial and you decide to use the console to just level all skills to 100 you would actually max your level at lvl 79 and have 78 perks. Playing "normally" however usually brings you to 81 with 80 perks. Can you reach higher than 81? I am not entirely sure about that, it may be possible but approximately 78-81 is is the hard cap you can expect to hit leveling all skills to 100 and you do in fact get a perk point for every single level you make.

Thanks for the spreadsheet :) perhaps I can join the throng of people who actually play in a thought-out manner now instead of just going "oooh pretty constellation" every time.

And I would be surprised if most people were able to accumulate 80 perks. Leveling every skill to 100, including the ones you have absolutely zero interest in or never use, is a pretty large feat.

True but it is a fun challenge at least if you do it without cheating :)

At work and on my phone, so I couldn't see the spreadsheet. So "max" level, for lack of a better term is 78-81, meaning around that many perks. How many perks are there, in total? Is mis-spending a point really a major concern, or will we have plenty of leeway to recover?

In total i am not sure the exact number off the top of my head but there is over 250. So.... ideally you certainly want to focus on what you want your character to be. Misspending a point? I think that is really up to you how much it matters, I know for me it would drive me crazy because of my personality but others it may not be that big of deal. It also matters how diverse your build is, the more diverse you are trying to be the more critical the misspent point will be. If you are running a pretty lean build with some wiggle room it will probably not matter all that much.

Yes, my OCD is freaking out right now because I put 2 points in heavy armor and 2 points in lockpicking, thinking I was going to have enough points for 3.5 constellations (I thought we only got 49 perks) so I quit putting them in to HA and LP, finally to find out I have the opportunity to max out more than I thought! SO HAPPY! Although now I've used the perk calc to find out if I can max archery, sneaking, LP, PP, Speech, BS, Alch, and Enchanting... and I think it came down to the wire, so I'll still have 2 left over points in HA bugging me for the life of this character. -.-

You should be able to get all the rogue'ish essentials in archery, sneaking, LP, PP, Speech, BS, Alch, and Enchanting, and still finish off light armor / heavy armor down one of the paths. That's what I have planned out my build is for 81 on the nose, some things you can consider skimping on, ... the left side of the stealth tree is all but useless imo if you get muffle / muffle enchant. Master lock picking is pointless if you take unbreakable picks, speech on the whole should be your sacrificial lamb unless you are hellbent on making every merchant a fence there are some other places you can skimp to to diversify a bit more but those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head, the screen shot on the download page actually has my rogue build if you want to check it out.

Hey, I just wanted to say "Thank You!". I downloaded this last night, but just started messing with it a little while ago. It looks and works great. Titles with details and prerequisites. Drop down menus with unlocks. Great work. I'll be using this for a long time, I'm sure. -Thanks again :goodjob:
