Permanent disfigurement (cosmetic only)

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:33 pm

Say you got your jaw shot off in a random fight (not a scripted sequence from some quest), and you choose not to get it fixed. You can play the rest of the game with no lower jaw, and your voice will sound a bit distorted. That's one example of a disfigurement/scar. There will be no change in stats, it's purely for cosmetic.

I'd love a one armed playthrough, or a cyber limb.

Yeah I made a thread about it a short while back, most people don't want it to affect your stats. That's why I made this topic to be cosmetic only.

Eh, if I want a wacky look like cyberlimbs, blinded eyes, or dramatic scars, I'll get a mod that adds them and make my character look that way. Not really in to having the game change my char's appearance without my control.

Things do happen beyond your control. Unless you're role playing as a messiah.

Nope, not roleplaying a messiah. Just playing a character in a game with seemingly magical healing (either via stimpacks, or via "instant total heal by waiting 1 hour"), and a non-realistic damage system (targets can take multiple bursts of weapon fire before their hitpoints run out, as opposed to a single bullet tearing arteries and causing multiple-organ-damage/bleed-out/death), etc.

Not a sim, just a game.

Technically, Fallout is "America's first choice in post nuclear simulation."

First, this is not so different a question then your last, you even start with: "Say you got your jaw shot off in a random fight (not a scripted sequence from some quest), and you choose not to get it fixed" this sounds alot like just Permanent Injuries. Next time just edit the old topic instead of making a new one perhaps.

Now i wont post a big one since one poster already said what i think is perfectly my opinion too:

So no lets nod add needless realism into a totaly not sim like game. Let modders do what they do and provide those mutalated bodies options instead.

That said, adding things like being able to choose at character edit to add slight scars, i'm fine with, just no mauled limbs please.

No, they're two completely separate topics. The first one was about it affecting stats, this one is just cosmetic.

I'm going to say no to this one. It an just be added as a mod later.

Buuut... there technically was disfigurement in Fallout 3. When you first start the game. Your hands are pretty smooth. But later on, your hands are all crusted up with dried skin, and blood.

Im for gradual battle damage over bloody mess if it turns out to looking more realistic, but if fixable with a medic - I dont see the problem.

You know, I spend a lot of time working on my characters and getting their looks just the way I like them. The last thing I want is for the game to go messing up all of my hard work. I do not want the game changing my character's appearance in any way, shape or form. That view has held true for all Bethesda games. I was very quick to mod out that stupid looking vampire face in Skyrim.

If you spent a lot of time on character creation and want to keep your vanity face, maybe you shouldn't pick too many fights. Makes sense.

If I make a one eyed guy, I just want an eyepatch I can wear. I've been wanting wearable eyepatches since Fallout 3.

If this was reality, that would make sense. However, it isn't real life. It's a game. Many things from reality are left out of games. This should be one of them.

A role playing game, you can't roleplay a pretty boy/girl who picks fights a lot.

It'd be great if they could include that option. Scars around your face that can be set back to default when you reach a certain place with an autodoc and spend something like 1000 caps.

If i remember right, you could get Scarred in Fallout Tactics, and it would drop your Charisma. Arcanum as well.

Wounds should affect stats and gameplay.

I am less for the "permanent injury" but more for an "harsh injury that need an high doctor skill or a doctor npc that you need to reach without fast-travel". It need to be a challenge to fix it, and live with it in the meantime, but a permanent thing might cause some trouble for those who want to "explore" the whole map.

Honestly, I frequently find cosmetic issues more important than stats. Wherever possible, I'll pick armor based on its looks for instance. Was disappointed in FO:NV when I finally had to move on from the amazing-looking Reinforced Leather to some ugly combat armor, because with the DT system enemies had just gotten too strong for that armor. And I've never used power armor in FO3 or NV, partly because it's not a good look. For instance. (PA is also pretty bad for sneaking, something I like to do. :D)

Looking at my mod folders for Beth games, the "character appearance" and "armor/clothes" folders take up much more disk space than ones that effect gameplay. FO:NV 2.2gb of mods, 1.9 is bodies/faces/hair/armor. FO3, 5gb of clothes out of 8.5gb of mods. Not that I use all the mods I've downloaded at the same time.....the FO3 folder includes clothes for like 4 different body models that developed over the years.

....really need to go through an clean out some of those folders someday. Even when I'm not playing any Beth games, I still keep an eye on the Nexus "new files" page and grab things that look like they might be interesting. Not sure I've even used every mod I've grabbed. And some of the ones I've tried then went in the "eh, doesn't actually look/run as nice in-game as it seemed in the mod description" but I don't always get around to deleting them....
