No. That would be very inconvienient, to say the least. And very unrealistic for it to magicaly reappear after going to a healer...

Yes, because what I want in my magic is for it to be realistic.

But even magic has limitations within it's own mythos. Magic doesn't mean that you can do anything unless that mythos allows it to.

No on the losing of limbs. But I would like to see IMO is crazy battle wounds, and scars. Not staying forever though. Something that would go away after resting/healing.

In this case, then you can almost bet on a Black Knight easter egg...along some path to some game-critical area- "None shall pass!"

He could be called Black Knight the Gray then and make a double Easter Egg. :P

Well, then I'd have to change the name of my armless, legless Mamagato character to something like Matt.

Sorry this doesnt sound fun. If this was fun, by that logic I'd have the time of my life sawing my hand off with a steak knife.

Nah, dismemberment only as part of final moves. Crippled limbs like in FONV, yes, but not further than that.

Sure magic should have limits within whatever system the designers decide, but is limb regeneration really even getting close to the realm of over powered or embarrasingly excessive? In a world where people can conjure fire, ice, and lightning like they were passing wind; where summoning skeletons, scamps, or atronochs of various colors is prevelant, I don't see it being a reach in the least for healers to restore a limb.

After all if I've a character with a max of 180 HP and I'm limping along with 4 HP then cast a healing spell or 2 and inside 5 seconds I'm back at 180, do we not presume that not only cuts and bruises were healed but also perhaps some cleaved flesh replaced and broken bones set?

I'm not for the cleaving of appendages (for the player or NPCs) but if they went that route, I think magic restoration of limbs would be completely appropriate. Though other options could be more comical, such as having to pick the limb up and carry it as an item to have magic reattach/reanimate it; or a mahe causing a 1/10th size arm spring from your shoulder that slowly grew over a couple hours game time.

This would be cool for NPC's. Cutting someones hand off wouldnt out right kill them or whatever.

Not sure how it would work for the PC unless it was set on hardcoe hardcoe mode. But I guess having an axe hand or a peg leg would look pretty cool.

Well it is impossible to have a thread on this subject without a reference to the Black Knight and while it is an interesting idea the Black Knight is a very good example of why such a thing isnt a very good one, at least when it comes to a medieval fantasy RPG. Of course there are always ways that such things could be implemented and nothing is impossible however the benefits of having such a system are questionable at best. That being said I would love to see dismemberment make it into the game in some way shape or form, not quite as over the top as Fallout but more like what was seen in Age of Conan, this is the Skyrim after all and with the heavy viking theme the combat needs to be more brutal to reflect that.

Just a quick question, can the Elder Scrolls Trolls regenerate lost limbs? Could make for some interesting fights.

"You've got no arms left!"
"Yes I have!"
"LOOK!"

Haha this thread gave me a good chuckle. I vote NO on limb dismemberment though, it doesn't sound like it would actually be fun

It's just a flesh wound.

I have a shirt that says that. It's so faded because I wore it so much. Maybe that's why I don't have a girlfriend :/

Combined this thread and the one about seeing your own legs, and you got a lot of people complaining that they cut their own legs off.
