Permissions for Niero's SB clothing

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 1:14 am

So, Niero's Unique Clothing and Exotic Robes for Smoother Bodies... a few questions. I think I heard at one point that Niero asked that his clothing mods not be converted to work with Better Bodies. Is that true? If so, did he ever change his position? Does anyone even use SB instead of BB anymore? I never see SB in anyone's screenshots, and it'd be a crying shame for those clothes to just fade away, because they're really nice stuff... anyone know how I can contact Niero?

Are bumps allowed here when threads fall to page two? It's been a while, and I forgot.

Presumably there weren't any replies because no one knows.

That said, if you can't find any proof that he did say that, then just do it.

Even if he did say that;
If he never comes back, we all profit!
If he does come back, and doesn't approve, then you can just take it down- no harm done.

I'd say go for it.

Dunno if page 2 bumps allowed, but answers certainly are. :) While I don't remember Niero's stance towards porting his clothes over to Better Bodies, Canadian Ice might know. Smoother Bodies' Readme lists her as a co-author. Exotic Robes' Readme also lists Howndog, Astarsis, Silaria, Evereve, and Kieve as co-authors. Maybe they know something.
About SB usage... well, I have used it for a long time, because I disliked Better Bodies' claw-like hands, but after Better Bodies v2 had been released for a couple of years, I finally started using it as well. SB did have its advantages in the days of Better Bodies v1, most notably its compatibility with standard clothes, but Better Bodies has certainly caught up.

Or you could just wait until it's included in a shady compendium...

Just because someone else did something bad doesn't give me license to.

For the record, some of my stuff was in that compendium too.

'Course they do. They're made of calcium carbonate, aren't they? Or whatever it is. You know what's more fun to dissolve in vinegar? Eggs. Especially raw ones. The shell dissolves but the membrane keeps it all in place, and osmosis makes it swell up, too! Pretty neat.

This topic reminds me of http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1106572-wanted-smoother-bodies-models/page__p__16202088__fromsearch__1#entry16202088 for some reason :P
What I posted in that topic still holds, ie I'm not sure Niero was against conversion, but from what I read at psychodog studios it certainly looked like it. You could always search for 'Niero' at psychodog studios and see what you find. Then again, I didn't know him personally so I'm not sure.

The readmes for Niero's mods (on the moddersrealm site) both include this paragraph:

"License: Free to use any way you like so long as credit is given to Niero, and Bethesda Softworks"

The Exotic Robes readme also includes this sentence: "I have not tested the plug-in with other body mods/orignial bodies but I assume that they do not work as well as my own 'Smoother Bodies'". Which suggests that he recommends SB but doesn't necessarily object to BB versions.

I'd say go ahead. Let's face it: virtually no one uses Smoother Bodies these days. If Niero's still around, and objects to you making BB versions, presumably he'll get in touch - but the 'license' paragraph seems pretty clear to me.

that's right. if i had such a license in a mod i would not bother finding a contact but do as the author wishes. plangkye: you use such a similar phrase in your hilgya. when you were disappeared from the board for a while some time ago I asked the same question about you. the people told me the same so I translated hilgya to german :) I'd also say: go ahead
