Personal Journals and a Morality Meter?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2009 3:25 pm

Yes for the journal. Absolutely not for the morality meter. Keep it like Oblivion with the fame and infamy where I hardly ever look at it. And if I do something "evil" and no one sees it, then my infamy shouldn't go up.

Journal definitely, morality meter not so much. I find the whole good/evil thing kind of dumb and would rather you just have choices and then face the consequences of them.

1) You are your choices. How "moral" or "immoral" you are is determined by your actions, which are documented already. Do you really need a "good/evil metric" as well? Is there some chance you might forget whether you are playing an evil or good character, and need a reminder?

2) If you really need one, you can always check your bounty (if you are a criminal) or your reputation (if you aren't).

So no, I'm not seeing a need for this.

Fame and infamy show your reputation, not your actual moral status. There's a difference.

Morality is perspective;

Also games like mass effect make the choice painfully easy.

Hell they even highlight it for you.

Morality meters were made by bland developers who don't realize that morality isn't black and white.

As for the journal, of course. I want to have my past experiences logged.

Personal Journal with many notes and ability to put notes into?
Yes please.

Morality Meter or even something like 'good or evil'?
No.. never.
I don't need the game to tell me what is good or evil to do, that is my own choice to make.
(I take a page from Dragon Age here, it never told you this choice is for good guys, or this is bad to say. Well Dragon Age 2 killed that idea.. but hey, just one more reason I never played it)
So yea, let character react to you and what you do, have 'laws' and such, but don't tell us what is 'evil' or 'good', because there is no evil or good.
(Thief's guild in Oblivion for example, it was against the law, yet in my opinion they were on the 'good' side of things in most cases, if the game had told me they were 'evil' all the while, I would have gotten really annoyed)

I guess the journal would be cool. The morality meter would just be a Fable rip-off. I like Fable, but it's nothing like TES.

No morality meters. thats a terrible idea.

Fame an Infamy is a little better (though it could use some work) but the way I see it is that it's the public view of your character rather than your characters morality.
It would be better to have some sort of local and global fame/infamy, as seperate values not a sliding scale. One should be able to be famous and infamous at the same time, with differing amounts to different factions.

Famous to the poor but infamous to the rich or vice versa. Stuff like that is way better than '+50 lightside points! Now you've suddenly redeemed yourself from the darkside!'

stupid morality sliding scales... fallout 3's karma was even worse >=(

I don't want the game as a whole to judge my morality, I want npc's to individually judge my morality, and then only the things they hear about or see. Actions in one city should have little if any consequence elsewhere.
