Personalized Armor

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 1:05 am

Should there be ways to customize/personalize your armor?
Like, adding a Fighters Guild Logo, having it a different shade, making it darker... etc. etc.

I just didn't like in oblivion where I always looked like a marauder even when I finally got to daedric :P

C: don't care

It'd be cool, but I lived through countless games without it and never felt any lack.

@Alois

Im not saying without it the game is going to be lesser in my eyes, I love games the way they are, thats why I've never modded OB.

I just think it would be nice to really be a hero, or get armor that no one else has (There are a few examples of this, but not many.)

Yes please!

I'm such a svcker for all customization, personalization, and all that graphical little tweaks that make you feel unique and special. For example, I was thinking that It would be amazing if let's say enchanted weapons would get covered with small runic writing, or since you can't help but to see obvious parallels between Skyrim, and historical lands of Scandinavia, in viking culture there was a rich tradition for warriors to name their weapons, ( even God Thor had his hammer Mjollmir- excuse me if I butchered it mercilessly) and so PC could inscribe a name on his favorite sword or a badass battle axe. That's also why I was ecstatic to hear that this time around you'll be able to edit your character looks, beyond biologically facial features. Tattoos, face paint, or maybe even scars? That will be awe-some!

If it had been a multiplayer game I might have had more interest in looking unique and different through personalized armour, but I'd frankly rather see more different armours available for crafting, buying or finding than seeing them spend their time on a system where we can personalize armour ourselves. I don't feel it really offers any added gameplay or improves my enjoyment in any way that would justify the work in creating such a system. All it's really good for is taking screen shots.

I believe it has been confirmed that you can put decals on your armor and thus probably colour it completely as well.

"Decals" have been confirmed which may have something to do with what you are describing...

All I worry about as long we have five items of armour like in Oblivion and Marrowind not like in Fallout you get only two. That is all I care.

I'd love to customize a cloak with your crest. I don't think we will be seeing anything beyond that though.

Different pre-set textures? Maybe. Custom add-ons that you can add on at a forge? Yes. Variants of each kind of armor? Yes please! Recoloring it to any color would look silly IMO. Maybe dyes for cloth, but not metal or leather, etc.

Leather can be dyed just like cloth can. No dyes for metal, though...

...metal gets painted. :P

Yes, having a symbol of your favorite factions on your cape or briastplate or shoulder sounds awesome. Also dyeing clothes or capes or fur armor sounds cool

I can see putting a different finish on armor, but not dying it pink or something ridiculous. The logos could be metal leaf, or just paint for your shields. It could definitely work.

My paint hasn't chipped off in combat,it's ruined my immersion.

But seriously, I want some white armour, the assassins get all that black gear, what about those of us who roleplay as saints.

Meh, not really I'd rather just have the armor slots that Morrowind had back.

I believe that the purpose of RPG gaming is to become attached to your character, thus I feel that any inch of customization, modification and ramification involved is another step towards a better RPG, something the Bethesda has been steadily working towards since arena!

Would love it if they added Decals to the game (Brink does a Great job of this from what I can see in the previews), but being a single player game I think they put less emphasis on it. With multi-player games like Brink it makes alot of sense, as your showing-off your gear to thousands of other peeps (just before you try to kill them of course). In single-player games I would argue it's just as important, but I don't know if the game devs feel the same.

Decals would rock, but I don't expect them and will just mod armor if I want to decal it that badly. :)

Why is it always white and black?

I want some dirt brown plate armor. :P

But that would be bronze(But bronze is not as good as steel>.<)

I dont take too kindly to that idea. I'd rather find loot than make my own loot.

Mass Effect 2 replaced their whole armor system with something similar to this idea. At first I hated it, and wanted to go back, but after playing the game for so long, it'd just feel weird if I couldn't change my armor colors on the fly.

I can imagine that it could break lore on certain materials like glass and ebony.
