Personally Made .esp File Losing Parent Masters

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:23 pm

Im trying to make a personal mod, which relies on leveled lists which contain weapons from another mod.
The other mod is an .esp file, which I suspect is the cause of the problem im having.
I add the weapons from the mod (WMK) to the leveled lists for my mod, but upon saving and quitting, the weapons are removed from the lists and my mod no longer has WMK as a parent file. This is incredibly frustrating as it means that I cannot add any weapons which rely on weapon mod kits to my own mod.
Ive tried using FO3Edit to change the masters manually, but this doesnt work.
Does anyone know of a solution?

Any help is much appreciated.

The only way you can get it to work is to convert WMK to an esm. The game won't use any esp as a master, it can only be an esm.

I thought that may be the issue. FOMM has a utility that allows .esps to be converted to .esms correct?

The game will use a .esp as a master just fine; the GECK will use it ONLY if the .esm flag is ticked (it doesn't care about the extension). SO I recommend you use FO3Edit and tick the ESM checkbox in the WMK ESP and then try again.

Well that's essentially the same thing. You're just fooling the GECK into thinking it's an esm.

Exactly; but doing it this way will not require an edit to the .esp that depends on the other .esp when that master .esp is changed back into a regular .esp.

That's actually good to know, I didn't realize I could do that with FO3Edit. There have been a couple of mods that I would have liked to have interchange a thing or two.
