Persuading Sapphire during Stabilized

Post » Wed Jul 15, 2015 12:50 pm

I'm sure most of you know the scene on the bridge (with Sapphire and Shadr) when you first enter Riften, and also the quest (Stabilized) that results out of it. As you probably also know, when talking to Sapphire after agreeing to help Shadr, you get the option to persuade her. And with that comes my question/problem. As you probably know, this persuasion check usually always succeeds. Also, the uesp-wiki says that the required speech-lvl is 10, and it also claims that those "very easy" speech-checks actually do not even have a failure dialogue. However... I've had a little break from Skyrim, and when I started playing again (new character), I've first installed the newest version of the Unofficial Skyrim/Dawnguard/Dragonborn patches; or well, actually the german translation of them (which is great btw, except for translating Apple Pie and some other thing with "Fleichpastete" (Meat Pastry)... but that's a whole other topic xD). Now with my new character, I've indeed failed the mentioned persuasion attempt... AND it actually DOES have a recorded dialogue line. Modifying my speech-skill with the console revealed, that I now need a speech-lvl of 50 to pass the test and successfully persuade her. Now since it actually has a failure dialogue, I wonder if the previous easyness was a bug, and thus got fixed with the unofficial patches. But I can't find anything about that mentioned in the version history... the only thing it says is, that they actually lowered her confidence level (which apparently is checked for the intimidation option) from "Foolhardy" to "Brave"... not a single mention of changing the required speech-skill for the persuasion option... neither when I search for "Sapphire", nor when I search for "Stabilized" or even "speech" in the version history of the unofficial patch.

Granted, I also have installed another mod or two since last time. However, I'm quite sure they do not touch Sapphire or that quest at all.

That confidence issue was also reversed with 2.1.2 and the root cause of the bug was addressed via a game setting value that was out of whack. The German translation may not have caught up with that yet.

So that means the persuading should work correctly with the newest version of the unofficial patch?

Edit: And yeah, the translation still is at version 2.0.8a for Skyrim and 2.0.8 for Dawnguard and Dragonborn.

Edit 2: Hold on; actually that's not true... there's a newer translation; it's just not included in their "Director's Cut" package. Totally gonna try if that fixes it.~~

Yep, it should work properly. She'll be appropriately difficult to persuade (or intimidate too).

Hmmm; I've just installed the newest available version (2.1.2 according to Nexus and also according to LOOT). However, she still just says something along the lines of "I don't care. Deal is deal." when I try to persuade her. I might have to just temporarily modify my speech-skill to pass it (as intended).
