Pessimistic or Optimistic?

I'm kinda neutral. I hate the fact that they're removing a lot of stuff, but still, I'm happy with what they added. I prefer to see the final product first.

This game has a lot more pros than cons that's all.

Also can I get I'n detail maybe all the things they took out because to me the only game changing thing they took out just improved everything.

I just don't like the whole "lonely" atmosphere. Strangely enough hardcoe TES fans seem to like that.

Mildly optimistic
Skyrim will be a good game and a better game than Oblivion IMO
That'll be enough to satisfy me

This is sarcasm right? Different armor pieces isnt what makes TES so much fun. Sandbox RPG gameplay is what matters and not having seperate greaves/cuirass won't really change the core experience you know.

I hate they took that out I wish we had more customization options to give me the option to farther differentiate my characters but it is the sandbox role playing experiance that I love. No combined greaves/cuirass is by no means a game breaker at all.

I'll be honest, I'm looking for the equivalent of Morrowind 2.0. Is this unrealistic? Of course but Morrowind was the pinnacle of TES in my mind and to this day I still play it but I realize that I am in the extreme minority and the market doesn't agree with me. Oblivion was a huge letdown and Skyrim it seems will be the same but my attitude it that of "Expect failure because you'll never leave disappointed", despite what I see as flaws Skyrim will give me 100s of hours of playtime and I'm at peace with that.

I'm Pessimistic so i don't overhype the game for myself and get disappointed in the end. Which i highly doubt will happen but better to underestimate and have an awesome experience then have overestimated and be sad.

Your attitude affects many things in your life. I am generally pessimistic by nature, but I choose to optimistic tempered with a grounding in reality. In reality, I am sure that I will enjoy this game. I choose to be optimistic about the changes they are making because the TES series is Bethesda's baby. Why would they willing choose to ruin the series? It just doesn't make sense. You can see who they pessimists are, though, because they are the ones always posting negative comments in the forums and whining about anything that suits their fancy. I consciously choose each day to get out of bed and ignore my pessimistic nature. When it comes to games, I certainly choose to be optimistic because video games are not worth the time and energy of getting really upset over--especially when there are things in the world that are much, much more meaningful. To me, if you are always being pessimistic--especially about something as trivial as a video game--then you are probably like that all the time, and I know of few people who really enjoy hanging out with someone who is always a Debbie downer.

After reading my post, I have to wonder why I spend so much time on this forum with all the negativity that circulates--especially from the (implicitly) self-proclaimed hardcoe fans.

Great poll. Interesting to see the spread of opinions

I don't see any problems with the changes we are aware of. I think Bethesda has this one in the bag...... For me anyway :)

I can't see why people are complaining. To me, it seems like people want Skyrim to be an improved Oblivion but set in another region and with other creatures.

A lot of people don't want an improved Oblivion, they want an improved Morrowind or Daggerfall.

Level-headed gamer: Streamlining useless stats, great overhaul of leveling and combat system, VIKINGS? I'm in.

No initial character build . . . no inherent character strengths and weakness, Every player will just be a warrior/mage/thief . . . with real no character limitations. That's a HUGE issue for me.

This was done exactly because they wanted each playthrough to feel and be different from the one that preceded it, AND it eliminates the tedious
job of having to decide how you want to play the whole game from the inital get-go. Every player will not just be a mage, a warrior or a thief, they'll
come closer to actually be them all at the same time, while maintaining the originality of that particular playthrough.

I think Skyrim will be mostly improved from Oblivion (except for attributes and birthsigns) but I cant know for sure yet. I'm really worried about "steamlining" and "accessiblity" (just nicer words for dumbed down and casual friendly) which tend to ruin games. Because of this I choose 4th option. Even though Skyrim seems to be better than Oblivion (at least for now but I'm fearful of what gets removed next) I'm still really worried about its direction because the emphasis is on accessibility, streamlining and easy-for-casuals-to-get-in in order to cater to different crowds at the cost of depth and rpg elements. There's no way to get totally different crowds interested in a game without stripping or adding elements which make the other not happy. I want rpg elements, depth, complexity, challenge and immersion so I'm worried.

Also if you want to look up the old class's grab out your Morrowind game guide and build your character around one of the old class's I am doing that.

"Bethesda has made some good changes, but also some bad ones. I can't decide whether I'm happy about it. "

I'd say I'm cautiously optimistic. I like some of the things I've seen. I'm disappointed with some of the design decisions and the general direction that the series seems to be headed in. I'd rather they build upon previous games instead of overhauling them completely with each new release because there are things from previous games that worked fairly well, but just needed fine tuning. And while I admit that there are some things (from past games) that do need a complete overhaul, I feel that it would have been more prudent to focus on those particular things instead of rebuild the game from the ground up every time. But that's an entirely different topic of discussion for some other time.

My cup is always half way full. This game is no exception. I fully expect a full cup on 11.11.11.

I picked 3. I like where some of this stuff is going, but overall, this even seems like a step from Oblivion. Atleast character creation doesn't seem like it's going to be disapointing.

Character creation sounds really good I love the ideas for markings, scars and the abiltity to customize face and body features I wish they would add something in the game to change hair/beards and possibly markings later on in your game.

"A lot of these changes have got me worried. I don't like where Skyrim is going."

I'm nearly certain now that the main focus in creating Skyrim has been on combat, and on streamlining the rest of the game around combat.

No initial character build . . . no inherent character strengths and weakness, Every player will just be a warrior/mage/thief . . . with real no character limitations. That's a HUGE issue for me.

And the presence of Oblivion's Fast Travel, and of the Fast Level (along with the rapid skill advancing Perk rewards) leads me to believe that the game is more focused on fast paced gameplay than on in-depth gameplay.

After having some of my biggest fears confirmed (by what was shown at E3), I'm predicting that it is going to take a LOT of mods to make Skyrim an enjoyable RPG for me.

I still don't see how there is any more focus on combat than past games, I think Daggerfall was the most combat focused with its massive dungeons and limited exploration elements same with Arena. You spend a higher % of time in those games in combat than MW,OB or most likely SR as well.

Overall I am optimistic.

Though there are always things to improve or could have been done differently. I was disappointed in many ways with Ob.. and this just looks so much better.

My only really pessimistic view comes from thinking they are not going to release an exporter, and leave it up to niftools again. Simply going on the "we are sticking with the nif format as it does the job and our modders know it well."

But the game looks hot.
