Pessimistic or Optimistic?

Post » Thu Jun 30, 2011 8:22 am

So, there is a lot of variety in the forums about how people feel on the changes happening in Skyrim. Quite a few hardcoe fans are complaining about Skyrim being steamlined, but others love the changes happening. I'm personally a little nervous about some changes, like the removal of attributes and athletics/acrobatics, but other things have me excited like crafting and radiant story. I would personally go with option 2, because that is exactly how I feel. I may not like these things, but I trust there was a logical reason for doing it, and that even with some things I dislike this will still be a great game.

I've been through too many releases from Beth to be happy or angry. I've been left ecstatic (Morrowind) and dejected (F:NV..though to be fair this was Obsidian) so I'm just waiting and seeing.

I trust them with making a good sequel in the series. I don't really like the idea of not being able to attack on mount, and i don't like how there are no decapitations. But other than those the game looks really good.

I also chosed 2.
Don't believe they make the same mistake like in Oblivion with the quest markers. POI markers will be still in I believe
But I would assume exploration will be far more satisfying than in Oblivion.

I love for example:

3D map
Horses (they look great)
Dragons
Dual Weilding
Smithing (I know we haen't yet see it but it sounds so cool)
The perk trees in the constellations, looks really cool (whoever came up with that should be promoted)
The characters look really detailed and beautiful (especially that female Nord in the tavern)
Water effects in the cave looked really good
300+ books in the game
150+ dungeons
70 voice actors instead of 2
280 perks

I don't like:

Possible merging of cuirass and greaves (like I said possible not yet confrmed)
Physics of the giant being dropped
Possible poor AI (I'm thinking of the stealth kill in the gameplay trailer)
Fast travel remains
No attributes
No Character class

I am overall optimistic for the game

A lot of these changes have got me worried. I don't like where Skyrim is going.
I really don't agree with a lot of the design decisions but in the end it is still an Elder Scrolls game and I have been waiting for it for years, so I'll still buy it.

I remain optomistic despite some of the changes, I'll see how things work out after I buy the game :)

I'm always a skeptic.... so of course I was worried about a few things mentioned regarding changes...

But seriously, if it says "The Elder Scrolls" on the box, and it's a game.... I'm going to own it.

I'm not worried.

I'm between the first two options. There's some things I don't like but I still know it's going to be the best game ever.

It's hard to tells sarcasm when looking at written text, but has that even been confirmed? It just seemed like a rumor to me, and looking at the armor pieces it just looked like chest pieces, I suspect pants/grieves are separate

I was fine with most of the changes and thought the game was looking great until I heard that there wouldn't be mounted combat. That really shocked me. There were so many people that wanted it in Oblivion I just couldn't believe they didn't implement it into Skyrim. Skycaptain was the only one that sort of ever got it working in a mod and that took quite a long time to figure out so I don't have a lot of confidence that the modding community will ever get it into Skyrim effectively. I hope Bethesda will listen and add the feature in future DLC or at least help the modding community mod it in. I don't see how it can unbalance gameplay that much. If it created issues with being attacked by the dragons just have them knock you off the horse and have the horse run away a certain distance and force you to fight them on foot. For me this was the biggest disappointment I have heard so far.

Daggerfall.

:hehe:

Kind of optimistic. As much as I love complaining about the interface and removal of subjective "TES-like" elements, the game's lore and world are proving to be pretty engrossing and I'm sure I'll love Skyrim just as much as I do (okay, a notch below) Morrowind.

"A lot of these changes have got me worried. I don't like where Skyrim is going."

I'm nearly certain now that the main focus in creating Skyrim has been on combat, and on streamlining the rest of the game around combat.

No initial character build . . . no inherent character strengths and weakness, Every player will just be a warrior/mage/thief . . . with real no character limitations. That's a HUGE issue for me.

And the presence of Oblivion's Fast Travel, and of the Fast Level (along with the rapid skill advancing Perk rewards) leads me to believe that the game is more focused on fast paced gameplay than on in-depth gameplay.

After having some of my biggest fears confirmed (by what was shown at E3), I'm predicting that it is going to take a LOT of mods to make Skyrim an enjoyable RPG for me.

From what I've seen in the demo it does look like the merged the greaves/curaiss but I really don't mind it. I've also seen some pictures of some of the armour in the game and that lookes totally badass. I know that it will not be perfect, but this game looks incredible to me and I can't wait for it.

I say that I am nither and go with being the realist. Which is to say not look at past games though a http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NostalgiaFilter like so many already have and base the game on its own merits or demerits without getting onto a hypetrain or dwelling within cynical swamp. Granted there are some things like the merging of cuirass and grieves and other such things that I don't much care for. However in comparison towards the things they have added in that can better define a character like perks and that I can just roleplay a class instead of custom picking stats in the beginning of the game. And thus better allow for a progressment of the PC's abilities and skills that remain at the heart of a RPG without having to adhere to a ingame class or picking up major skills that you may or may not even use.

In the grand scheme of things stuff such as armor merging (provided it isn't taken too far like Fable) will have little impact on my enjoyment of the game providing there is some proper character progressment and still a open world to explore.

I can't see why people are complaining. To me, it seems like people want Skyrim to be an improved Oblivion but set in another region and with other creatures.

I dont know what some people were expecting. Yes, there may be some short-comings, but Skyrim just looks awesome. I think they've done just about everything they can to make this the best ES yet. I will hail to Skyrim, the best game of them all.

Bethesda has never disappointed me with their flagship franchise and I have faith in them that Skyrim is going to be amazing. The Elder Scrolls are the greatest games of all time.

This is sarcasm right? Different armor pieces isnt what makes TES so much fun. Sandbox RPG gameplay is what matters and not having seperate greaves/cuirass won't really change the core experience you know.
