Pete Announces Prize and Steam For Skyrim!

Post » Tue Nov 16, 2010 9:29 pm

"Seen this? http://bit.ly/fonSmM Well, it's legit. The reward? How about a key that gives every Bethesda game ever, past or future, on Steam?"

Pete just tweeted that! Free Bethesda games for life! This also confirms Steam will be used here on out.

It's obviously a joke, just look at the disclaimer. Bethesda isn't seriously saying we should name our children "Dovakhiin", that would just be dooming them to be teased by others. Besides, I don't see any mention of the prize being Steam keys to play past and future Elder Scrolls games, why would Bethesda sacrifice potential future business oportunities like that? It would more likely be something much smaller, if there was a prize at all.

And if you realize it wasn't serious, than good one.

Im not sure what prize would be worthy enough to get your kid beat up every day of school because of his name.

Saw that. That is awesome, and while having that key (as much as I despise steam) would be awesome.... except for the part where you have to you know, take care of the baby instead of play Skyrim...... Being in a hospital bed, in labor for hours, on Skyrim's release day.... would really not be fun.

I demand that Bethesda create and open a portal to The Elder Scrolls Universe and allow me and my family to live there. Then I will completely do this "quest."

(funny and true story; actually was pregnant at the end of January/ beginning of February, but I miscarried.... no joke, and he would have been born late October or early November. But not going though that again for a while... a long while so I think I will have to sit this "quest" out. Maybe for TES VI...... :P)

Mike Fahey is an idiot, following close behind is Pete if this article has any truth.

"Bethesda's Pete Hines calculated that February 18 was the perfect day for conceiving a baby that would be born on November 11, 2011," Really? Pete figured this out all by himself?

Please.

Some of you are in denial. Yes I know some people don't want it on steam but its going to happen. I have a ps3 so I am not on one side or the other for steam but that's the way it's going to be. A steamworks game. Sorry.

No joke. It's on the http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/02/18/ladies-and-gentlemen-start-your-creation-engines/. And those Steam keys exist, so such thing is very possible.

The announcement seems to confirm that Skyrim will be available on Steam. It does not confirm that Skyrim will be a Steam-exclusive game.

This does not imply that Steam is compulsory. It may be that you can get Skyrim both on Steam and as a standalone copy.

On the PC?

Yes. You'll be able to purchase as 1-2 DVD's and play out of the box, or you can opt for Steam if you like its features. It could be that you'll get a Steam key in the DVD version if you happen to want both without paying twice.

Yeah hopefully it can be purchased as a stand-alone product too.
I have Internet connection, that's not the problem :)

I just hate installing other programs in order to use the one I really want to use.
I want to play Skyrim, and that only. Nothing else. It's that simple for me ;)

So, what does this mean for people with no internet connection? How would you play Skyrim?

If it is a Steam only game, then you must connect to Steam once to authenticate, then you can play in an offline mode. Personally, I would prefer if it was a simple disk check instead.

Denial my foot. I'm going to preorder and don't care whether or not I have to use it :P. I'm just speaking for the people that either don't have Internet (yes, that still is possible, don't be narrow-minded) or dislike it a lot.
Besides, I'm not just crying out "NOOOO!!!!!", what I say I base on arguments. Namely:
1. Steam-exclusive would kill the modding community (a major fail for Bethesda).
2. Steam doesn't really add protection, it can be cracked. So the only real reason to go Steam is for its features, which not all people enjoy.
3. As mentioned, not all people have Internet. Or, more acurately, not all of them have Internet where they could play Skyrim EDIT: or they have an Internet connection but it is painfully slow to download 10+ GB.
