Pete Hines:DLC have priority over release of CK

Post » Fri Feb 26, 2016 9:30 pm

I think you misunderstand. Mods are going to be available on the consoles but the CK will not...ever. The "release on all platforms at same time" bit applies to the DLC not the CK

It isn't a gift because it was a selling point for the main game that was specifical advertised. It has nothing todo with Season Pass or DLC. If Todd would have never mentioned the construction kit/set yes then I would agree its a gift, but it was used as a selling argument of the main game.

Btw. early 2017 was the given timeframe which normally means for companies the first quarter of 2017. So yes BGS is still in the schedule.

No one has seen the GECK yet. It's entirely possible that a great deal has changed, thus requiring some extra polish before release to the general public. I really don't mind if they release it today or two months from now as long it comes out.

Hey Akrabra.

The Creation Kit is the official toolkit for ES.

The GECK is the official toolkit for FO.

The latter is a semi-humorous reference to the actual FO Garden of Eden Creation Kit.

It's not a matter of any of us merely using these terms as community jargon, I use both toolkits to create content, and the actual files are literally called "Creation Kit" in Skyrim and "GECK" in Fallout games.

Todd used the term Creation Kit at E3. So there is no guarantee that we get the beloved name Geck that we had for FO3/NV.

Even if the name changes I will still refer to it as Geck :) . I am making mods to long for FO3/NV to change but thats my personal problem :).

Delaying the CK does harm modding. If prospective modders get bored and leave before the CK is out, we lose out there. Skyrim modding had quite a slow start, exacerbated by the use of third party tools And the fact we waited three months, after which half the playerbase had moved on. It took years to reach the same level that Oblivion modding reached in months.

They've been calling it the CK and using the Skyrim CK logo for it on the blog though. Seems to me they stopped referring to it as the TES Construction Set after Oblivion with Fallout 3's GECK, shortened it to CK with Skyrim and are continuing with CK for Fallout 4.

The G.E.C.K is one of the reasons people buy and play Bethesda games. It's not a "privilege" as much as one might think when people buy their games in the expectation that they will be able to mod the game to their liking as has been the precedent before -- in a sense it becomes a marketing strategy for Bethesda and a raison d'achete for the consumer.

Bethesda doesn't have to give us the G.E.C.K, but neither do they have to provide additional content -- either could lose customers and interest.

As for your last bit. I've been downloading mods from the Bethesda community for over 15 years, and I would say that they have matched or exceeded much of what Bethesda has created, including the vanilla content. Some of the modders themselves have been given jobs at Bethesda for their quality work.

edit: I don't think they "owe" us the G.E.C.K either just fyi

Actually as moddeveloper I don't see harm here. Actually it is a advantage because the people who make mods only for fame already have moved on to a another new shiny thing which actually helps the quality of mods.

Skyrim btw. didn't have a slow start. It was pretty rapid actually. What slowed down the output a bit where the big changes from Oblivion in Skyrim and that alot of TES modders ignored FO3 & NV and got a lot behind (didn't even know what a navmesh is and how its bugged to name a famous example).

It depends on the mod, like horse-armor for instance. :)

Totally... they hate them .... that's why they released GECK for FO3 / NV and the Construction Kit for Skyrim.

Or scared of losing money lol. I remember the days when they released full content for free on top of two very large expansion. Oh the good ol'days. Just go on the official page and download to your hearts content all the cool stuff the devs made on top of the game. I'm talking about Morrowind here, and then we were hit with horse-armor and the Thieves Den. The stronghold stuff in Morrowind was more fun and was included in the game. Settlements in Fallout 4 were a good idea however.

Bethesda is going to get around to it in good time. They have to divide time between various things, and with console integration its going to take a bit longer this time.

Talking about how its some grand conspiracy to make people buy their DLC just shows off why people consider gaming fandoms to be some of the most entitled fandoms in anything.

I don't think it's a big deal. It will probably be released after Far Harbor or mentioned at E3.

I didn't say every. I said it depended on the mod, correct? Correct. :) Meaning some user-made mods are just as good if not better, and of course, some mods made by Bethesda are better than some mods created by modders. It all depends on the modder and the mod. Horse-armor was made better and didn't cost a dime.

We feel entitled. The CS is not an entitlement, it is a gift.

I can not mod every game I play.

Most games I play I can not mod..

It will be released when it is released..

Ive noticed that its never the modders themselves saying that their work is better than Bethesda's, its always the users, and a small portion of the users at that.

the reason why Bethesda's games are so popular is modding ^^

It's not a gift at this point... it's a feature that we expect when buying their games

and I'm sure the sales wouldn't be as good if they decided to remove the modding aspect of their games

Of course. People judge what they like and don't like. Some mods are better than what Bethesda has done, and the opposite is true also. I don't see a problem here.
