Pete Hines:DLC have priority over release of CK

Post » Sat Feb 27, 2016 7:12 am

Pete Hines twitted that the release date of the CK has not yet been decided since Bethesda's efforts are concentrated on the publication of the DLCs.

That's right. The creation kit came out February 2012.This time It'll have to wait.

Looks like Bethesda intends starving us of content so that nobody gets distracted from buying Hearthfire 2.0 by mods.

How hard can it be to publish a stripped down version of the tool you used to make the game?

I wasn't expecting this from a company that gloats about it's modding community everytime.

Is this payback for ruining your little payed mods plan?

They're starving us of new content by focusing on DLC's first, rather than the CK? Those two statements don't really work together. I for one am happy about this, being a console player.

Bring on the DLC!!

According to http://www.gamespot.com/articles/2015s-top-digital-games-lists-include-league-of-le/1100-6434142/,

I am very sure majority of Fallout 4 players are console users now.

G.E.C.K is important, but I am sure Bethesda is doing what they believe to be fair for all Fallout 4 players across entire platforms.

Relax. I'm tired of fans acting entitled about mods and the CK. It's something Bethesda is giving us as a gift and for the first time ever on consoles. It'll give this game its longevity in the end alone side the DLC's and Survival Mode. It's all for the better IMO. The DLC should and always should be priority for those who payed for the SP and it will likely be excellent just as it has in the past. So again I say, The creation kit is a very nice and highly anticipated gift but not a given and certainly not the priority for Bethesda or the game itself. Story is that and the DLC will add more of it. The CK is what will add steps to this games longevity with wonderful creations made for us to use.

The deal is that the CK does not really need that much effort to push out.As i said the CK didn't get in the way of Dawnguard.

I can't immagine it being much different this time around.

To me they are purposely holding back the CK to make sure pc players buy things like Wasteland Workshop instead of downloading a free mod that does the same thing (and probably does it better).

I expressed my thought badly and came of pretty harsh.

I agree that dlcs should take priority.

My point is that I am convinced that the CK is good to go.But is being held back for the reasons stated above.

And also, when at your e3 promo you promise full MOD support you better deliver it.

Also,PC players won't be the only ones to enjoy mods this time around.

Don't a lot of mods wind up needing DLC?

From what I've read here, it would seem that mods would need to be rewritten after DLC comes out anyhow?

So how muh effort does it take to release te consumer version of the CK?

How many hours of QA have you done as a foundation for your assurance that the CK is ready to go?

The G.E.C.K. is a gift. They don't have to make it work at all. We were told we'll get one and they'll deliver.

If you really think the mods can compete with a BGS DLC you are deluded. I run 8 now and I bought all the DLCs long ago.

I respect your opinion but I respectively disagree with the statement about it being easy to push out a CK. They want to launch this on all consoles around the same time and it hasn't been done before so it will work differently than it does on PC. They have to work with both Sony and Microsoft on what the kit can do and what it can't do. It's not as free in terms of what it can do as the PC's version will likely be. It will have to be approved by Xbox and Sony and that might be the biggest challenge the CK faces now.

Not sure that i see the problem here. DLC should be the priority. I get that if they want to keep the PC community interested they need to drop the CK soon, but its not like waiting a month extra will hurt you.

Only if the mod uses assets from the DLC or if there is a conflict with a patch. And it really take much to update the mod on the day the patch rolls out.

It took 3 months for the CK (Skyrim). The lack of a release date might mean we will have to wait more this time.

The Geck isn't a gift! It is part of the deal. Otherwise Geck shouldnt have been announced at all.

Still it makes sense that the Geck comes out after the first DLCs when the engine is still undergoing changes which it actually is. Nothing is more annoying as the breaking of mods because a DLC has came out.

What does that link prove? Fallout 4 got 7th place for consoles and made $108 million. Fallout 4 for PCs was not on the list and 10th place made $205 million. Therefore, the PC version could have made more money than the console version for all we know. All that link shows is that PC games and mobile games make far more money than console games.

Have you seen some of the dlc for new vegas? Like Willow companion, professionally done, and puts the vanilla companions to shame. Or Millenia's weapons which were of far more quality then the gun runner pack.. Or new vegas bounties.. There are more then a few real gems out there, that put some of the dlc to shame.

Anyhow the geck isnt a gift, they promised that it'd get released. And honestly, its why they get a pass on some of the horrific quest plot lines and over reliance on radiant quests.

It's not part of the season pass. It's free content. Not paid content. Therefore gift. No way around it.

I do agree with your last point though. Great point.

Am i the only one bothered by people still calling it GECK? I mean there is no GECK in Fallout 4, and it is the Creation Engien not Gamebryo. I am pretty sure it will be called The Creation Kit.

To be fair Bethesda DLC policy is pretty bad.

They NEVER fixed any their dlc bugs. They left Skyrim just a bit less buggy than when it came out while introducing new bugs along the way.

The unofficial patches are what made skyrim an actual stable and cohesive game rather than the galore of hit and miss that Skyrim:Legendary edition was.

Yeah sorry for the outcry.

I'm pretty anxious to start playing around with the Kit as soon as it comes out.Creating content for a game can be just as much fun as playing it.

The name GECK is from Fallout lore ... Garden of Eden Creation Kit. The 'G' doesn't stand for Gamebryo. Apologies if I misunderstood your point.
