First blocking, now this. Weird design decisions.

not really. they wouldve had to make a whole new set of animations for lefties. it makes sense, it just isnt something they felt warranted they extra attention.

Big deal. I think they have more important things to worry about. Playing a lefty was never a part of the series so we aren't missing anything. I mean name some games where you can choose to be a lefty or a righty and you're going to come up with a short list. People are just expecting something that a majority of the players could care less about.

Aww... I wanted to wield two shields at once and go around bashing people with them. :brokencomputer:

Just updated.

@Gromm-
I think it's that they would have to make left-handed animations as well.

The are using some kind of "mirror-animations" for dual wielding. Having a shield in your left hand wouldn't be any different, I think.

They should allow you to choose "left-handed" as an option in character creation, which makes your right hand the default shield hand.

Why can't they just include an option you click that makes you left handed, and if you do, it mirrors your character and the control scheme? Twilight Princess mirrored itself on the Wii when they realized that Link was left-handed and most players would be right handed.
Seems like a simple fix.

ohno this truly proves how plain and bad skyrim will be, without any depth whatsoever.
it's obvious only CoD players will enjoy this too

how dare they simplifiying things, the game is ruined etc...

Without this whole gameplay styles are ruined.
Imagine the depth, the challenge and the feeling of playing a left handed character. That is what we're missing.
:whistling:

/sarcasm if somebody would misunderstand

Bukee, that's out of context. It's true that people here complain a lot. But nobody here is saying that the game will be [censored] because of the lack of this feature. Just that it is a pity, as it shouldn't be difficult to do.

Not a big deal and it's being completely overblown as to the importance of this feature. I believe the reason we don't have that choice is based on the design of the engine in concerns to combat. Like I said not a big deal at all.

Imagine having a Left-handed man in these lines, defence would be impossible.

PC solution: Mirror your screen and your mouse on a vertical axis and keep messing up west and east.
Console solution: none

Console solution: none put a mirror in the room opposite to your TV and look at the mirror when you play. just learn how to read backwards.

In order to fill the line he'd learn to use his sword and shield like a right handed person.

I'm left handed in real life and we learn to do a few things like we are right handed because you learn from right handed people. I play pool right handed style but I grab the stick to play pool, write, eat, and do most things left handed. It doesn't make me less left handed or ambidextrous. The tasks that I learn backwards tend to be ones where both hands will be doing something important.

If I was learning to fight with a sword and shield and people would come at me with a shield in their left hand and a sword in their right I'd probably learn to hold a shield in my left hand also because that's where the pointy thing is coming from. Because I am left handed and not ambidexturous I'd probably have better control on my shield arm then normal and less control over my sword.

In short shut up. Left handed is fine and possible. If there was a grab animation and your character always used his right hand then I would say right handed is only possible but for this task both hands are used and I bet most left handers will learn it backwards.

Guess what? We HAVE left handed shields.
No right handed shields, though, because a combat system that is more sophisticated than Morrowind's needs block and parry animations that match the attack animation of the parried weapons.

So unless you are happy with everyone in the game being left handed, it would be four times as many combat animations for every NPC and likely even some of the creatures.

Left handed shields are pointless anyway, because your right-hand shield will only protect you from a right-hander's weapon (which is at your left side) if you turn so far that you can't attack yourself.

I for one am happy with dual wielding.

However, historically there were warriors that, even being naturally right-handed, preferred to fight with their shields in their right hands and swords in their left hands. Housecarls, for example. Why? Becuase in that way, they could attack to the undefended side of the opponent. Nowadays, there are tennis players that do more or less something similar... like Rafael Nadal.
