Pete Hines responed to my tweet

I was curious about what the plus side to dual wielding weapons will be since you can't block. Heres my tweet:

@DCDeacon Question. What makes dual wielding 2 swords without blocking viable in the game since 2 handed swords can block? Any advantages?

DCDeacon Pete Hines
@Frozgaar You get to power attack with either weapon AND the ability to do a combined power attack using both weapons at once.

Combined power attack you say? Did I just uncover some new info?
Personally I'm happy with his answer.

doesn't negate the fact that you can't block or parry.

might be interesting to see the 'combined' power attack animation though.

Pete mentioned this a few weeks ago when people were asking about the possibility of pulling both triggers to block. A dual wielded power attack is likely going to have the highest, raw physical damage, above even two-handers.

That's supposed to make up for the complete lack of any defensive maneuvers whatsoever... the ability to do a dual power attack?

Dovakhiin:
Companion: "My friend, why do you keep slashing your swords at the same time at that slower, choppy pace?"
Dovakhiin: "Well, you see... if I don't keep doing that, I'm simply at a disadvantage with this weapon-wielding style because I can't block and this one move is supposed to make up for that... hence I need to keep using it to make any use of my style's advantage and keep things balanced."
Companion: "I see..."

We saw somebody do this in the very first gameplay trailer.

I was disappointed about the lack of blocking, however as long as dual wielding is still a viable option and not completely useless, I'm satisfied.

It's actually not upwards. There was a big debate on this a while back.
