So after Joshua E Sawyer tried to explain what might be breaking Skyrim on the PS3 by pointing at the issues that afflicted New Vegas, Pete Hines responded with:
So... Hines is saying they know what's wrong with New Vegas, they've solved the issues... and yet the game remains unplayable for a number of people who've advanced well into the game's core content and DLC?
If they've solved these issues, why aren't they patching them out of the game? Is there a patch in development we don't know about? Or is Hines simply slinging PR nonsense in an attempt to save face? Because you see, thing is, I've spent well over $90 on New Vegas at this point -- I haven't bothered buying Lonesome Road because I can't even freakin' finish the main campaign or Old World Blues -- and I'd really like to be able to use it as more than a shiny drink coaster.
Obviously J. Sawyer isn't hurt by telling the truth. It's out of his own control to fix a game he made, so of course he at LEAST gives an honest answer as to why his own game couldn't be fixed. That way, we at least know they tried or WHY it's not fixed, so we can feel a little better knowing they at least tried.
But Hines is with Bethesda and he's in charge of public relations. Sawyer's information implies that Bethesda games simply WILL NOT work perfectly with the PS3, so of course Hines is gonna want to downplay that. Bethesda has sales to think about.
How come none of the developers (Obsidian Entertainment or Bethesda Game Studios) ever responds to these forums? You'd think that since these are the official forums they would be reading these threads and responding to them (at least every once in a while).
Bergman, Sawyer and Avellone used to visit the forums and answer these issues, but now New Vegas is done and they're all busy working on other projects. For what it's worth, those three (Bergman especially) did a great job of keeping in touch with the community.
