Pete Hines says you can turn off quest targets

Post » Fri Sep 02, 2011 6:35 am

DCDeacon Pete Hines @
@RealNQD Ah. They're referring to being able to turn off quest targets (which you can do), not the compass (which you can't).

I didn't see any other threads on this so I thought I'd post this, this is good news right? I certainly think it is.

Confirmed about half an hour ago by Pete Hines via twitter:

Well we finally got our answer
Guess the console versions just got less fun. Poor show Bethesda, poor show :nope:

Sorry about the lack of a link but there's no specific url that I can see. Just look at DCDeacons' timeline and you'll find it. You don't need an account.

No opacity setting? Didn't these guys make Fallout 3, you know the one with HUD opacity in the options?

I wonder if we'll be able to turn the entire hud from solid to invisible and anywhere inbetween like we could in FO3?

Anyway, it's nice that they can be turned off for those who don't like them.

I really like being able to turn off quest targets, but a forced compass makes little difference to me. Even the ancient navigators had ways of figuring out directions.

It makes sense being able to not turn off the compass. It's there for helping to guide you North if you had to go north, but I do like the fact you can turn off quest targets.

Don't throw a party just yet. Wait til people play the game, then freak out because the NPC didn't give them directions because they marked it on their map. Then it'll be "Bethesda is MAKING ME use the compassssarrrrrgggg!!!111one!"

The only point of this thread is for me to laugh at the narmy title. Otherwise, don't care.

I don't get the disappointment. So we can't turn off the Compass? Is that it?

So you're making the argument that any sort of hardcoe gamer or a gamer who doesn't want their hand held is a mouthbreathing basemant dweller?
What an ignorant thing to say. My job at the SDZ, my fiance, and my rent payment would like to have a word with you.

Wait wait wait! What is wrong with turning off an arrow pointing you in the quest direction but keeping the compass? Or am I misunderstanding?

If we can turn off quest targets, there better be a proper system of giving directions to people, otherwise it's pointless.

That's cool! I like the quest markers sometimes when things get messy and I don't want to read page after page to find the right quest (morrowind). AND if someone complains about the compass, I'm going to pierce them on a fishystick!
