I'm afraid PC gamer's will probably have to learn to live with pay2play dedicated servers.
PC gamers are used to being able to Mod games and create and play new levels without having to pay for the privilege, but the cost of developing AAA games is now so high that gaming companies demand theability to monetize their products as much as possible, so gradually these features are either being removed completely or replaced with commercial alternatives.
There will still be a few companies that hold out to the ideals that made PC gaming great but baring a collapse in the console market (and while I won't completely rule that out right now due to the excessive cost of game development I think it's unlikely in the short term) these kind of limitations on PC versions will become nearly ubiquitous.
i understand ur post.. and thats the reason why i say.. ok bring dlcs.. for high high first class maps.. i pay 30 euro for an Game that development cost more than 100x then an game in the 90′s.
But otherwise.. u should see that on the other hand.. more people buy games.. so its a little bit like a reletivation.
I would say it is a good idea to deliver special content for money.. some special maps, maybe modi or skins and other customisation. But ALSO deliever and support something like a mod/map community.
Sure u want get that much money with the dlcs.. but u have been fair and get a bigger community.. and Developer like Blizzard prof that it is possible to gain that way profit back (more happy customer.. more possible crysis 3 owners

).
