Petition: Remove air stomp as a perk

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 7:23 am

This shouldn't even be considered, really.

Do you have any idea how much more unbalanced it would be if air stomp was made a regular suit ability? I use air stomp all the time and I love it. I'm proficient enough to know when to use it, and when not to.

Removing it as a perk allows me to use something else in conjunction, namely suit transfer, which I have at level 3. So, say I leap off the top story in Parking Deck, down to the middle of the street. Normally, i'd jump while cloaked, and if I didn't hit armor before I landed, i'd lose all my energy. If I did hit armor, i'd definately get noticed while recovering.

Lets look at it the other way now, as if it weren't a perk. I leap off the Parking Deck in cloak, turn someone 50-60m below me into mere paste. Full energy instantly. Cloak. Enemies spin around wondering what just happened, unable to see me due to being cloaked while i'm standing up, thanks to having full energy. I'd love for it to happen and all, because it would be godly. But.. it's just not balanced.

If anything, the stomp definately needs a buff of some sort, or the detection needs to be slightly tweaked. It would be nice to add something into the suit, where it could calculate your height, and inform the player with a % chance of a kill. Perhaps by looking down at an enemy from an elevated position, and a percentage number appears on the side of the screen somewhere, to aid players newer to Air Stomp. After a while, you'd remember how and when to use it.

Of course, if you played pro mode, you wouldn't see it. Thats my two cents.

Notice that the armor modules have less options then the other two types?

You would be surprised how many people duck while jumping out of pure habit from pretty much any VALVE game.

anyways I agree that duck works just fine for the airstomp BUT a dedicated button would not hurt anyone but still help some people. I also still think there should be dedicated buttons for switching to primary or secondary weapon.

@topic: completely agree with the OP. Airstomp is completely useless as a perk.

btw. just want to get this off my mind because this forum is too crowded to make new threads anyways:
controlls are unresponsive - buttons just won't work sometimes because some unrelated animation is not finished yet

I only use it on my run-about custom class as a pot luck choice as a bit of a gimmick. I got 1 double kill with it and then that's it. I usually get spotted while I try to spot potential targets and then end up shot. What a fantastic way to get a kill though.

yeah i know, i play TF2 and CSS, but you don't need that in Crysis 2 though...

But a special button wouldn't be a problem ...

Disagree. I don't see why Suit Modules should just be there as some sort of enhancements to existing abilities only. I actually like the idea that you have modules that you can use in offense. And let's be honest: trying to hit someone with that isn't this easy. You trade an offensive module that is risky to use for modules that give you a permanent boost in another suit property. Fair trade in my opinion and a good take at customization. Only seeing stats being customized (that is essentially what you're suggesting) is less interesting to me than really creating different archetypes through suit modules.

I agree they should have Air stomp as a ability and a actual perk that makes it more powerful,

It's not so much that Air stomp is useless, but that most people are useless with it. I don't get a whole load of kills with it, but I've pulled some great kills in the short time I've been using it - it works best when the enemy are actualy working as a team; a well placed air stomp can take most of them out if they stand together.

Its useless when compared to the likes of Nano Recharge and Energy Transfer which take a dump on Air Stomp and the rest of the other Armor modules for that matter.

How often does the opportunity to get an Air Stomp arise compared to how much benefit you get from Nano Recharge or Energy Transfer? The only way you can get anything out of Air Stomp is to camp on some high ground and wait for someone to walk below you.

Oh yes! Those who use airstomp lose a skill slot for a perk that gets one or two kills a game.
Please remove it because when someone stomps me i feel sad and cut my self.

i think that the most players wont use it as they dont use sliding

its a good perk but i think its too weak for its price. almost every time i used it in against group of enemies i missed and died. i think it's radius and damage are too small. the main problem is that i can't aim normally using it.
but the main advantage of this epic perk is how it looks and feels >:D
i feel myself a real hero when i bring dust and another frag to my enemies >:D

I wound agree with the OP except the first upgrade makes it worth it to me. "Falling with no damage." that right there for us Great leapers is amazing boost to maneuverability. You can leap off any thing and live with out doing anything. Perfect for fake outs. :)

It's not useless in comparison to nanotransfer/recharge, it's personal preference.

I play just fine without using either of those perks, just by managing my energy carefully. Of course they're an advantage, but if you don't run headlong into groups of enemies and play smart, nano transfer is no more than an optional benefit.

Remove it as a perk and give it to everyone in its current state, or make it more viable compared to the other armor perks. Or hell, drop it in Stealth, just to give that category more stuff.

You guys are forgetting that it has upgrades, which give you more abilities.

You can get Air Friction (Press (?) to reduce fall speed). Useful for preventing fall damage and
get that "little bit" further,
and you can get a much faster recovery rate for it.
Air Friction was fairly useful in it's own right.
[That's how it was in the demo anyways - haven't got it back yet]

I have to go with the old "you're not doin' it right" argument.
In the demo I managed 4 kills with one stomp.
You can't just jump off a rock and expect a mass multi-kill.

The only problem I have with it is that's it's called a stomp, despite that it's actually a punch.

Also; buy me a cat.
