Pets.

Firstly, sorry if there is already a thread on this topic. I've seen nothing over the last few days in relation to this and have performed a quick search which yielded no results either.

If you have the magazine, or have found scans, look at page 52. The picture in the top right hand corner specifically. There is an NPC walking next to what seems to be a large animal. It's either a dog or a cat, the scan I'm looking at blurs the animal's head. So is this confirmation of pets in Skyrim? Possibly. Perhaps it's only NPCs that can own pets. I'd like to think that this confirms pets for the PC also.

Either way, would you like a pet? What kind of animals would be suitable? What would you want from them? The Fable series was very proud of its dog and yet, more often than not, it was glitchy and irritating. I wanted a war hound and what I got was a miserable pup that was scared of going into caves and could only attack people once I had knocked them over. That said, the animations were good. It was cool how it interacted with NPCs. In a perfect world, I would like this from Skyrim and more. I would want a pet that, If I stood still for a while, went around sniffing things- exploring the environment independently. Barking at other dogs and chasing cats. Maybe I'm expecting too much. Probably.

I would also like the ability to give it orders. Only simple ones. Such as 'stay', 'attack' or 'fetch me my slippers'.

I suppose most of this is irrelevant anyway, we'll just mod them in otherwise. :P

It's a dog. It seems obvious to me.

Anyway, I'd like them, just as basic companions that you have to feed and who will follow you and fight for you, or perhaps sniff out certain ingredients.

I doubt pets will be implemented but if they are I will be glad. I'd get a small dog and hire a peasant to take care of it in my house when I'm out on adventures.

I think Beth realise they can rely on the community to mod things like this in.

Yeah, good point. There's probably a lot of stuff that they dont implement because they know mods will add them anyway. Reading our complaints they must sometimes be thinking "why are you guys so worried about features missing, you never play the vanilla version anyway!".

For the last [censored] time, not everyone uses a PC and it is much more convenient to have them already implemented immediately. I'm tired of people saying "It doesn't matter if the game is crap because we can get mods to fix it."

The choice you made and the consequences you suffer, you get the Game and any bonus content offered by the Developer, no more, no less.

Doesn't mean we should DISCOURAGE them from making good features.

Not really. I guess it's fine if they did implent them though. Just make sure it's optional. I would really hate to be stuck with a pet i never wanted (yes i am looking at you Fable II).

Considering how bad I feel when my horse dies in Oblivion, I'd only want a pet if it was an essential NPC that couldn't be killed.

No, they should die, but be fairly strong and faint mostly when they get to low health. When your dog dies, it should feel like when the dog died in I am Legend. Oh my God that was so sad.

I remember in the Tribunal Expansion for Morrowind there was a guy who sold Pack Rats, and Scribs that would accompany you as your companion , and carry some gear too. If they did something like that for V then I'd like it, but like someone said before I wouldn't want to be forced to own a pet.
