Pets in TES V?

You DO NOT summon wolves, bears, etc. You summon creatures from the planes of oblivion (undead/daedra)

Nope. Not at all.
Being able to summon both a wolf and a grizzly bear via Bloodmoon's main quest was purely my imagination.

I'd really love having a wolf or panther for my ranger character. Things like these are what make classes so different. Of course I wouldnt want to feed it all the time though it should have more options than just aggressive passive and defensive mode... perhaps options like petting it or giving it special orders like telling it to sneak up and backstab targets while you "tank" the enemy.

I think they need to work on companion system overall. TES games always had these quests where you had to rescue and escort or fight alongside with somebody and they ALWAYS get in the way somehow. The only companion that really worked for me was an archer (me being a meele tank ofcourse) they would rarely get in the way and they never hit you with their arrows.

Anyway if they could (and they should) make the AI smarter and somehow make companions unhittable (no friendly fire) without breaking immersion that would be great.

I don't know about you guys but I'm sometimes getting tired of being one man army, what if my orc warrior is simply not strong enough to bash open an iron door? He hasto go learn alteration or lockpicking which breaks the immersion for me because I was planning to play a warrior who doesnt have the capacity to learn about theiving tricks or magic because he devoted himself to arts of combat alone... I dont want to play another "jack of all trades master of all". I want a thief or mage companion who can assist me with his/her skills/knowledge and have interesting conversations with them. That doesn't mean I can't handle every situation alone if I wanted to but having an option like this would really enhance the gameplay for myself many players.

It is true that there are many things they should fix first but if they dont really add anything new the game will feel like heavily modded Oblivion. Companion system, human, animal and daedra(mage familiars) should be one of the things they should consider adding imo.

Maybe I should just go and play Baldurs Gate 2 instead though =*(

I don't think we need pets since we can summon creatures to aid us in battle but it'd be nice to buy pets for our houses in TES. Having a maid in my large mansion in Skingraad still makes things so lonely. Haha. :)

Yes I think there should be pets just like it was promised for Oblivion, and I want intelligent, realistic AI.

Well from what I have read of lore, thats not how it works...

The spells were called "Call Wolf" or "Call Bear," and regardless of how they work or not, you the player are still summoning forth a creature to your aid by using such spells. Summoning in the vernacular can be as complex as punching a temporary hole in the fabric of the liminal barriers to call forth a Daedric Servant from the planes to Nirn, or as simple as casting a spell that alerts a specific type of nearby wildlife to come to the player's aid, with conjurative effects as a game-mechanics-only explanation. It's still summoning. You are still calling forth something from somewhere to come to you and aid you.

Bah people already beat me to it, but yes waste of even more resources.

Well i could say unarmed is a waste of resouces because none of my characters use it, same with blunt and athletics. But you cant have a game thats made entirely for you so the easiest way is to have an option so that both sides are happy. You can choose to have either the pet or something else that would be beneficial no matter what, like a stat boost or something.

I know your going to say whats the point in adding an alternative for something that wasnt there in the first place, but it is there because other people want it, not just for the sake of it, so it is not a waste of resources.

Pet does not really fit in well with comparison with skills. Skills are a more of a make up of what is Elder Scroll. Pets can be easily discarded out of the TES as it does not provide any large impact toward the game, but skills does.

Oh, and people do use those skills for their major.

I really do not want pets in the new game. I guess it'd be fine if they made it an option you could enable, but I prefer the feel of the game without having a constant animal companion.

They should definitely have it, but make it an option to have one, like in Fallout 3 with Dogmeat. I remember they incorporated this idea somewhat in Tribunal. There is a man who can sell you either a rat, or a scrib as a pet. I always chose the scrib and just named him, Scribby lol

Its not the problem that is an option, is about how much is needed to be an option. Way I see it, if such thing exist, I would just personally fix following AI alittle and paster it on animals. Nothing big at all, and simple, like that of Tribunal with the rat and scrib.

Some people, however, suggest to go as far as having its own skill or build a whole system around pets or even as a simulator as to taking care of them. I see these as a no-no, and a waste of resource just for a small, insignificant feature.

I dont suggest having a whole system build around it but i dont see why they couldnt make it abit more interesting, like a quest to get it, maybe some of the towns people would react to it when they see it?

Since it would pretty much defeat the purpose of conjuration, I don't see why there should be pets in the game. And besides, unless they made your pet as strong as Dogmeat, it would be pointless.

Well then you could make your pet as strong as dogmeat....

They could make the higher lvl conjuration monsters more powerful so it doesnt defeat the purpose but not everyone can summon a monster more powerful than their pet straight away.

My opinion: absolutely

It worked in fo3, it could work in tes 5 too.
But if pets, why not marriage? Or even CHILDREN!
Just saying, it worked in fable 2...

A pet wolf would be good... you have to tame it by yourself :)
A pet bear... tame by yourself, wanna see it in the game.
A pet... rat.
Or a pet dog which you will train as your guard dog.

Also, followers. In oblivion followers like Adoring Fan just ran away in fear when in combat... I want something like... you can hire a bodyguard...

Its not a big aspect of the game to begin with. Same goes with the Acknowledgment and Quest part, all wasted resource just for pets.

Dogmeat is nothing more then a sidekick the way they show it in Fallout, putting a great deal on that mutt alone. I rather it is NOT that of a big deal in term of TES.

Except this isn't Fable or Fallout, this is TES. I just pointing that just just because other game did it doesn't mean TES should do it too. They are not the same.

And saying "Just saying, it worked in fable 2" is as equivalent as saying "they should add thing to the game because that other game did it!"
