Phasing

Those of us who enjoy the Elder Scrolls series were surprised to see the next game after Skyrim would be an MMO. Oh well, it's here. We probably would have preferred to have a co-op, but we should make the best of what Bethesda is giving us. I'm sure it's a fine game in its own right.

From what I'm hearing though, many aren't enjoying the dungeon crawling while others are around (They're not referring to the open world environment, or the group instances, they're talking about individual dungeons.) That makes sense because of it feeling very much like an Elder Scrolls game, and Elder Scrolls isn't an MMO series.

A possible solution to this, would be to phase out individual dungeons for you and any group members you have (however you define a dungeon). Keep the open world with tons of people running around; keep the group instances; keep the PVP (when it comes); keep the MMO portion, but add an element of co-op.

Spelunking is a special part of every Elder Scrolls series, and should be kept similar to how its been in the past. It made the series feel special and unique, and I'd like to see this game have an element of that uniqueness.

Concur. Would have preferred a simple co-op feature in a non-MMO release. Felt the same way about SWTOR.

Although I'm in an MMO, I'd still like to do things on my own from time to time and that will include tackling dungeons that're better suited for one person than 5. So I think there should be a few dungeons that are phased that I can do alone and enter at my own pace, rather than be rushed by several other people who don't fancy reading the quest text or appreciating the artwork. It'd also be a nice testing ground for my different combat styles early on too without feeling interrupted by other players.

Would I prefer a TES game with minor multiplayer functions? Until I see both I can't say, but it was a concept a friend and I toyed with ever since we first played TES with Oblivion. The Arena would make a good start.

That's a good idea too. Having a variation of dungeons. Some suited to an individual, some suited to 2-3 people, and then the main dungeons (other than raids) would be geared towards a full group of 5.

I guess another way to do it, is to have the non-group dungeons scale depending on how many people are in the group that enter the dungeon.

Instanced dungeons worked pretty well in SWTOR. Its one of the things they did well.

Really don't want to see every chest empty, ore mined, etc. when going through a dungeon with a group - or a corpse of the very boss you're fighting at his feet, freshly killed by the cat that just ran out of the entrance.

I'm puzzled by this poll. What you describe here is EXACTLY what ESO has. Public dungeons, solo instanced dungeons and instanced group dungeons (though this game uses 4 man instead of 5 man groups). And big groups comprised of multi 4-mans for "adventure zones".

And that's how I think it SHOULD be... mixed, because people have different preferences. But there's no corresponding poll option

That idea came after the poll was created. If you like the game the way it is, I'd guess you'd choose "No."

I found it enjoyable and annoying at the same time to do public dungeons, its fun cuze you dont have to spam "LFG" and pray for a group, but it's annoying cuze you dont know if the spot where you are has a unique mob with good loot, since others killed it.

Overall I can live with it, but it kinnda annoying if you dont know the dungeon before entering it.

Sometimes it's annoying, but it's usually not a big deal for me. Plus I always forget to heal myself, so it's nice being randomly healed by someone passing through.

I like public dungeons in MMOs, myself.

NDA probably blocks an answer to this, but are all dungeons in Cyrodiil public? I think it would make a lot of sense to do it this way, and give different options outside of Cyrodiil.

A lot of things should be solo-ABLE in an MMO, especially one based on TES. Absolutely 0% should be solo-ONLY.

If they are (can neither confirm or deny), how is that useful when you go in and every chest, urn, etc. has already been looted by the dozens of players right in front of you?
