[BUG] Phone bricked due to fire4S crash

Post » Sat Feb 13, 2016 6:06 am

I know 4S isn't supported and am not here to complain about that, however I've experienced such a severe crash that my phone is unusable and am posting the details in case they are helpful to devs to diagnose any performance weaknesses.

Phone is an iPhone 4S (iOS 7.xx.xxx), the vault was approximately up to 70 citizens (1/4 were corpses), I had the update installed - a fire broke out and spread, and once it reached the point where it was in more than 6 rooms the lag caused crashes to occur without fail when trying to play (and the game animation was almost frozen before the crashes - the crashes caused the apple logo to display, but did not restart the phone entirey).

These were the 'normal' crashes for this app on iPhone 4S no big deal... I could collect one or two resources before the crashes, slowly, but the data was not saved. So after collecting two resources and seeing the fire had spread to 5 floors, I tried to open the settings in order to go back to the main screen. (My plan was to let the fire progress a little, save by logging out, log in, progress a little.. etc. )

Unfortunately, by trying to access the settings during an inferno, the phone crashed in a new new and spectacular way - see my profile picture for the screenshot.

The screen is lit by streaked lines, and does not respond. The lines have slowly faded over the past 2 hours so that at this point only the ghosts of 4 green lines are showing.

The phone is bricked, cannot be reset... I am hoping that after it completely drains of charge it might be possible to start it up again but that will take a day.

(In the meantime, I am probably going to keep it somewhere that is not flammable and I have finally, reluctantly, ordered a new phone :) )

Try holding in the power button AND the home button at the same time until the phone restarts. This works better then just using the power button when the phone locks up.

Heheh, thanks for the tip - first attempt: the streaks are no longer faded, they are even more prolific and they also have an apple logo overlaid now. Very stylish... it is stubbornly resisting switching off no matter how long I press so far.

Ok now I have a kinda normal view of the screen and app icons with a faded/whited-out version of the streaks overlaid... so there is some progress :)

I may actually be able to use my phone until the new one arrives if I avoid the game!

Then it sounds like more of a hardware issue and probably just a coincidence that it died. Bc if you see the logo that means the phone rebooted and all software should be cleared. Take it to the Apple store. Good luck!

Like I said, I ordered a new phone. Was time to get something that runs iOS 8 anywway  The streaks are on permanent display now (they're quite pretty, I guess) but at least the phone is usable

Hilariously, the vibrate function was broken before the crash but once I finally managed to perform a normal reboot, the vibrate worked.

Thanks for the help.

Erm, my 4S is on 8.4?

You did well to get to 70, mine croaked at 50.

On another new vault, I get random crashes from around 28 dwellers.
