physicked hair and clothing

Post » Sun Mar 21, 2010 3:46 am

I'm personally hoping we do. not all hair and clothing though, short hair types wouldn't really need it. mostly the long and medium hairs, long facial hair would also be nice if physicked.

As far as clothing just long loose clothing like capes, cloaks, and robes. also strands of cloth that could hang off clothing as accent.

But since I think it's clear what you're asking anyway, the answer is "none of the above." There is no reason to lean toward any of the options at this point because there has not been a shred of evidence to speculate upon. It would be nice, and I'm sure we can pretty much all agree there... But that doesn't answer your question, and I don't think anyone here really can answer your question as of now. Maybe in a week or two though.

Maybe. The technology's there. Personally I'd rather not waste CPU(or GPU) cycles on it. It's a neat effect when done correctly but the wow factor pales in comparison to the amount of processing required for it.

I don't think it requires much in the way of processing cycles, we've had Playstation 2 games in the past with flowing hair and clothes.

It doesn't have to be based on real physics, it can be faked if done well.

would be cool if they added a option to turn it on or off if your computer cant handle it. but that is highly unlikely

If it doesn't mess with the frame rates on the new engine like it most likely would have on Gamebryo, then yes.

People seriously need to shut up about Gamebryo and they need to shut up about everything they don't have a clue about. Gamebryo is just a rendering engine and has absolutely NOTHING to do with physics. Would you like me to name some other Gamebryo games? Civilization IV, Zoo Tycoon, Pirates!, LEGO Universe, Epic Mickey, Divinity II, Bully, and Dark Age of Camelot. How many of those play ANYTHING LIKE The Elder Scrolls?

With so many fantastic physics engines out there, why not?

It'd make the game much nicer, especially for 3rd-person cam fans.

I'd rather have them spend resources/time with actually useful things.

YES!

Even Morrowind's old engine can do it.

Even Shadow of the Colossus has it.

It isn't like it'll take a rocket scientist to do it, especially if the developers have upgraded their technology.

this poll/thread is just to discuss if it is possible would you like to see it? i understand and agree with you post but this is more of a hypothetical thread.

Assuming bugs and glitches are minimal would you like to see your character standing on the edge of a cliff with hair and cloak flowing in the wind as he ponders how he/she is going to slaughter the bandits at the bottom of the cliff that haven't detected him/her.

If they do implement it, we'll probably see in the GI Issue. If they do, I want it to be similar to Assassins Creeds style, they handled it excellently with no clipping.

The problem comes when many NPCs are on screen at once. Especially with the limited RAM of the consoles, there's simply no way you can have a bunch of people with realistic cloth physics in the same place without the frame rate seriously chugging.

I'd vote for a compromise. Animated clothing with a touch of physics, particularly on robes and skirts (similar to the clothing in Final Fantasy XIII), but not full clothing physics for the entire garment. That's just too resource intensive.

lol i must admit my spelling can be a little off at times. but that was how my spell check said i should spell it. though apparently the meaning wasnt what i had intended behind the word.

If you mean hair and clothing moving with earthly physics then yes.

this is why im crossing my fingers that they were smart enough to use the technology they helped develop called http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU2L7IdYDVc

Not to sound rude, but it's not spell check's fault, it's your fault for thinking "physics" had a verb form, and then assuming "physicked" WAS the verb form when spell check tried to tell you that "physiced" was spelled wrong.

Maybe, add it in as an option for PC, preferable as a multicore CPU option, rather than PhysX which screws all of us ATi users. But on consoles, leave it out, other wise I think it would be too taxing on the over all games graphical fidelity.

I voted no because there's no way I'd be able to run the game. Also, I don't think it's likely that consoles could do so either, and they're pretty much the main platform for this game (look in your heart, you know it to be true).

Not the biggest deal in the world. But if they can implement it without sweating too much, then sure... I mean why not? Newer engines can handle most things without sweating too much; this included.

again this is why i'm hoping they use http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU2L7IdYDVc Dragon age origins uses this tech. with my amd 3800+, 4g ram and ati radeon 3650 1g i can run the game pretty much maxed out on graphics. my only problem is my processor cant handle battles with over 6 people and the fighting gets bogged down and unresponsive.
