Picking Locks For Someone That Never Played the Prior Games

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 12:21 pm

New To the Fallout Universe. The game seems great, but very much designed for those that played the previous games, with no instructions.

I have been having a great deal of difficulty picking even the simplest lock. I end up breaking all bobby pins, no matter how many I have at my disposal. I can't find any instructions on how to do this important part of the game. The videos I have watched, have not been helpful. Can someone please provide some detailed instructions, or a link to detailed instructions?

I spend more time in this game researching, than playing, as the programmers decided to make an amazing and very complicated game, with zero instructions (only for the people that played the other Fallout games). This is supposed to be fun. I would be so happy, if there were some sort of tutorials in the game, on so many subjects.

Thanks for any help, or steering in the right direction.

You have the turn lock function and the turn Bobby pin function. Lightly try to turn the lock. If it doesn't move and rattles then it's not the right spot. You need to find the spot where the lock will turn. Even then the Bobby pin can rattle half way through the lock turn which means u are close so adjust the Bobby pin in each direction to find if the lock turns more. Remember lightly turn and release the lock turn so you don't break the Bobby pin right away.

Use http://i.imgur.com/CnQng1g.jpgto help you save lockpicks. These are good bobby pin positions for you to use to get a "feel" for the lock.

My general rule of thumb, is to start with it straight in the middle and gauge how much resistance you get. Do not turn your right stick all the way if you keep getting resistance -- rotate the bobby pin to the next position (left stick) and try again. If you feel like the knob is turning more, play around with the bobby position until it continues to turn more.

But remember, as soon as you start getting resistance, let go of that right stick!

Good luck!

There is a VAST help section in the pause menu.
