Picking up Objects/bodies in Skyrim.

Post » Sun Sep 26, 2010 4:18 am

In Oblivion you could pick up and move around small items such as food,weaponry,utensils...etc. You could also move the limbs around on a dead NPC but you could not pick up an enire dead body (Atleast on console versions) I would like this to be added into Skyrim so that I can move/dispose of dead NPC's lying in the streets.

I think it would also be great to have a positioning tool that would allow you to rotate the item you have picked up so you can use it to place objects/decorate your house in Skyrim the way YOU want.

IT IS ALSO DISTRACTING TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS

and they get rid of bodies after 3 days
I kinda liked the body moving in Oblivion it kinda made it feel like it was an actual persons body and you were dragging them by the limb

Yeah I think you could still pull bodies without using mods, but you had to move slowly or it would let go.

yes but you couldnt actually MOVE them to a new location. IT's fun to roleplay, picking up a noble guards body and taking him to a tomb. carefully crossing his hands over his chest and laying his sword across him. or taking a rotten thiefs body and dumping him into the river.

I'd kind of like to be able to be able to move bodies into the shadows to avoid detection if I'm playing as a stealthy character (think the early Splinter Cell games or Metal Gear Solid). If an NPC discovers one of his friends' corpses, there should be some kind of alarm. It didn't make a whole lot of sense that I could stealthily take out a bandit and just leave him there, then a minute later his friend walks by and just stares at his corpse like there's nothing wrong.

I liked the "dispose of corpse" option.
Unlike most people, when I see a dead body in a TES game, I think "woohoo-storage!!"
Then I promptly unload all my frivolous loot that weighs too damn much but that I use to up my mercantile skill.
If it disappears, I'm not out much.

Yes that's something I'd love to be in. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Oblivion I remember if you picked up an item, that it would flop around and usually knock everything off that you carefully placed on a surface. In Skyrim I hope the grabbing function is firm/solid. If I grab a sword on a table it shouldn't swing around wildly it should stay in the position that I grabbed it from(unless it hits a solid object) Then add a rotate function.

In reference to Amnesia that's not about the darkness and scariness, I think it could be handled this way. You pick up an item and then hold r to rotate it around. The only problem with this is that it would be a bit tricky on consoles because I believe all the buttons are used up with other commands/actions. Might take some ingenuity but it's something I believe needs to be handled.

If its going to be the same silly floating in the air grabbing, then Id like to at least be able to move bodies instead of them being like a rock.

inb4 someone claiming its unrealistic to be able to just pick up a dead body.

I prefer use other mods then this
Some of mods allow to take body into inventory or decompose it dismember by parts, I use them for my evil characters.
For my good characters body can be buried in ritual

The physic on object you dropped was wrong as they were usually to light, and most items even clothes and armor bunched like a ball. Fallout felt much more right here.

I made a thread that included this a while back. My idea is that you make the grab button (Z on PC, LB on Xbox, etc.) a toggle. Instead of having to hold the button you just target an item and click it once. While you are in grab mode you cannot fight, so you actually need to click it again (drawing your weapon would also turn it off) to drop the item. Anyways, while you are in grab mode, the item will never rotate. At all. If a book was resting with its front cover facing up and the top of the book facing north it would ALWAYS face the same way for as long as you were grabbing it. This brings me to the Rotate function.

While you are grabbing an item, you could then press RB (on xbox, other systems vary) to toggle Rotate Mode. In this mode, the Right anolog would not turn you, but spin the object. Once you get the rotation of the object right you click RB again and finish placing the item. It is kind of complicated, but it works much better than any item moving mod I have seen so far, at least in theory. Besides, most people who would get that in depth about moving stuff around (decorators) wouldn't mind it being a bit more complicated for better control.

You can move bodies to a different location in Oblivion. It just takes some time. Just press z and walk away, dragging the body with you. The same for consoles, only L2 or something.

Ha. Moving and situating objects on the console version was a test of patience. Can't tell you how many times I had a shelf perfectly stocked with various items only to have the entire thing come crashing down after placing that last crucial item.
