Picking SPECIAL before knowing the perks?

Post » Mon Dec 07, 2015 11:20 pm

Are we going to have to pick our special before knowing the perk tree? I mean in the gameplay trailer we see the guy asking for our special stats before we go to the vault where I assume we will get to the perk tree. I just don't want to pick my special and have to restart later in the game because I chose stupidly or something. Will Bethesda release an official perk tree or what?

We might not see the perk tree until after gaining access to the pipboy, just before leaving the vault. Perhaps we'll be able to reassign our stats before exiting.

You had to pick SPECIAL, Skills, and Traits before knowing the perks or how the game played in past games.

thats pretty standard for RPGs.

But skills are now perks. Although I think that you may see the perks after the SPECIAL selection and that part of the character creation was cut from the E3 demo.

I'd say this is a very good possibility considering we have been able to do it in past Fallout games.

I wouldn't be to concerned about it.

We've never seen all the perks before choosing SPECIAL points lol during selection there's always a brief explanation of which letter does what (kind of) so you'll base it off of that. This isn't a change

One way or another I'll have studied the perks before I choose the SPECIAL stats of my first play-through character. Whether that is allowed by default, or whether I end up creating a throwaway test character or something to access the info remains to be seen.

It'll probably be like the previous games. Gut feeling, the perk list will be spoiled before launch and that might be the only spoiler type thing I'll look up before Fallout 4 comes out.

Same. I will likely be doing a couple of test characters for different things so I'll have a good idea what all the perks are before making my actual character.

I think it'll be fine. The SPECIAL descriptions at chargen give new players a decent idea and a start towards the kind of character they want to build, and if they see any perks that fall beyond their initial SPECIAL set-up they'll be able to work towards them.

There's always the Prima Vault Dweller's Guide...the Collector's Edition even comes with a poster sized map and 7 lithographs. And, if you don't want that (or the cheaper versions), you can always wait a few hours or days, until someone posts the confirmed info from the guides onto the Wiki page. And who knows, Bethesda might give us the full details just before launch so we can plan our characters - just like it might release the name list. Neither of those things have anything to do with the plot, and they would certainly generate a lot of activity on the Forums, as people talk about them and start sharing their planned builds.

Plus there is usually a chance to redo the character before leaving the initial starting area.

Yeah my first character is just going to be a test to see what I want my actual character to be. I don't want to put 6 or 7 points into a skill when I only need 2 or 3.

If you're that worried about it base your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Stats off of the videos bethesda is releasing on each individual stat on youtube. So far they have Strength and Perception. Its kind of an overview of what they're good for.

But that only covers the first 2 or 3 perks for each not the entire chart.

I agree, just keep it simple. (K.I.S.S.)

Some of the speculation threads on this forum are so assumptive and overwrought that they look like a joke.

You can't make claims on how the game will be based on your knowledge of Fallout 3, New Vegas, and some vague screenshots of Fallout 4.

And the best way to be accurate about this, is to just wait until you get your pre-ordered strategy guide along with the game and use it

to understand the new system! (but only for that purpose, mind you.. then you hide the guide from yourself) This is why they made the damn guide in the first place.

The speculative function of many perks is being updated due to new information that has recently been released, and so overall accuracy should be greatly improved with the forthcoming update. As for how accurate the thread really is, I guess we'll have to wait and see ;)

Once the game has released, the full perk descriptions from the official strategy guide will be added to vault111.com, although this may take a day or two to be fully implemented.

Anything included with the game will more than likely give us an outline of each perk, whereas the strategy guide will include full details for every rank, including the effect on any primary or derived stats.

On my first play I'll probably load up on my agility, perception, and depending on what I have left, maybe luck.
