Pickpocket does not give you exp?

Have a new build I'm working on. It's something of a saboteur infiltrator. Stealth, intelligence, charisma. Uses explosives but nothing else. I have unarmed, but no knuckles or anything. Just bare hands. I don't even wear armor. I figured the bread and butter for this build was to hack turrets and robots to fight for me, and pickpocket grenades into pockets. The build works and is fun to use, but I don't get exp for my pickpocket kills. I snuck a land mine into a pocket and blew 3 people up with it and got no exp. Only way I get exp is if I physically attack them and that's not this builds strength. Especially when I'm playing survival difficulty. Is the lack of exp intentional? If so, this build is going to take a long time to level up. Also, hacking turrets yields no exp as well. The intensity of using your wits to defeat enemies instead of just kicking the door down guns blazing is awesome. It'll be a shame if this build lacks exp.
