I posted this in Fallout3 Picture post and it has something to do with Oblivion. More like two games and three picture files in one.

How do you capture the magic effects seen in several of these? For me they vanish almost immediately after using tai/tfc.

I use http://www.shsforums.net/index.php?showtopic=28507&st=40 as it freezes everything in the game world. It is a bit tricky, no pun intended, and do not work 100% of the time but when it does it is great.

Sunsi:

I'm learning the ropes myself and certainly no expert. And even my best work can not match the quality of that produced by the creators of elaborately staged and choreographed "set-pieces". But as a chronicler of events as they unfold, without recourse to pose-packs, my best friends are the commands "tai" and "tfc". In combat situations I, like you, leave fighting to my companion. Keeping close watch, I periodically bring up the console, freezing action. If and when both companion and mob(s) are caught in interesting stances I "tai" the lot, disabling their A.I. which locks them in-place until reversed.

At that point go to third person if not there already.

If you want your avatar in on the action, position it and go through the same routine you did earlier. Attack the mob(s) while bringing up the console until freezing a suitable pose, at which point you "tai" the avatar.

Then (still in third-person) "tfc" to enable the flying camera. This lets you move the viewpoint at will until you find the best possible angle from from which to capture the action. If in doubt shoot the scene from multiple camera positions. Don't be afraid to experiment.

When done, don't forget to reverse all "tai", "tfc", etc.. To relieve paranoia (for fear that I might have typed something that might bloat or corrupt my save) I tend to reload and fight the battle again, this time sans trickery.

It goes without saying that "tm" is my third friend.

While editing a capture for posting, cropping can transform mundane into interesting. (My image of Neeshka and the Ogre, which you so kindly complimented, is an example.)

Several general-purpose mods are a bone to screen captures. DroplitTorchesOBSE makes action shots possible in otherwise-too-dark environments. (Neeshka and the Ogre is lit via a dropped torch or two.) AdvancedWindowLighting&Chimneys, in combination with a sky darkener, opens up a whole world of nighttime scenic captures. (This image, while nothing special, would have been pointless without Chapel lights.)

:o :touched: :trophy:

Decrepit, what an excellent tutorial thank you for taking the time and attention to writing this out for me. :hugs: My apologises for not noticing sooner. :embarrass:

r/l has gotten busy for me again plus Sulteric Drum's mod, "Stoker Wolff Vampire Hunter", was just released and I wanted to try it out but seems my game refused to play it so a re-install-re-stall was in order. :brokencomputer:

Again, a heartfelt thank you for such concise information on taking great screenies I can't wait to try some of your pointers as soon as I have my game back up and running.

An oriental offshooot of the Brandy character, actually an Imperial duplicate race. I should have made her as a Breton though to be shorter.

Sunsi...

Thanks and welcome back (if back ye be).

When posting my little ad-hoc guide I left out something obvious to me, but maybe not-so-obvious to folk not overly familiar with using the console, that being how to "tai". If you just type tai and then press ENTER, it disables everything... which is almost never what you want. Instead, what you normally do is...

1.) Press the TILDE key, bringing up the console, at the same time freezing all screen action.

2.) Mouse click the first mob/companion/horse, etc. you intend to disable so that its name and ID appears centered at screen-top. This will be easily recognized.

3.) You now issue the "tai" command (without quotes) and press ENTER. If there is more to disable do not exit the console.

4.) Move on to the next mob/companion/horse, etc. Mouse click it until its name and ID appears.

5.) Issue the "tai" command.

6.) Follow this routine until everything you want disabled is.

7.) Move on to whatever other commands, if any, you wish to issue at this time.

8.) Close the console.

9.) Once satisfied you have a decent action shot in the can (or give up in disgust) re-enable all "tai" actors by clicking on them individually again so that their name appears top-center as before, then issuing "tai", again as before. Rinse and repeat as needed.

Your avatar will likely always be the last thing you "tai" (assuming you want it in the capture). I "tai" my avatar separate from the others so I can position him to best compliment already disabled cast members. I sometimes try out several avatar "tai" positions before finding one (via "tfc") that is satisfactory. I sometimes never find a satisfactory avatar position.

When dealing with multi mob/companion battles you often find yourself in a situation with some actors caught in dramatic stances, while others ruin the shot due to bad poses, blocked views, feet stuck in the ground and so on. What I do then is go ahead and "tai" the well-posed actors and leave the bad one(s) active. (Or, if already "tai'd", re-enable the mob(s) that didn't work out.) This opens two avenues for saluaging the shot. You can have the avatar kill off the mob (assuming its an enemy) and let its corpse (manipulated if necessary) contribute to the scene. Or you can let the mob(s) go on attacking the disabled actor (normally your companion, sometimes your avatar or a third party) and hope it will assume a usable pose. If it doesn't (the companion eventually dies and the mob moves to attack your avatar) no big deal. You are going to reload your current save once all is said and done in any case (whether you get a potentially good capture or not).

Expect the unexpected, be patient, prepare for frustration.

The Adventures of
Decrepit & Neeshka
"Rain, rain, go away..."

We begin on a promising note, exploring a heretofore lost Ayleid ruin whose coded journal-reference I deciphered long ago. That behind us, we fall in to something of a rut with an assignment requiring near constant shuttle between two widely separated cities. Journeys made loathsome by insistent rain, something not well reflected by visual documentation mostly captured during all-too-brief intervals or respite.

1.) http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn303/Decrepit_Waste/ESIV%20Oblivion/Neeshka_Peril_1a.jpg. I often chide Neeshka or her rashness in battle, but this one couldn't be avoided.

2.) http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn303/Decrepit_Waste/ESIV%20Oblivion/HereausMonaShrine_1a.jpg. Circumstances largely beyond our control find us once again amongst Hermaeus Mora cultists. This daedric shrine was but recently the site of a quest objective.

3.) http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn303/Decrepit_Waste/ESIV%20Oblivion/AyleidRuin_1.jpg. Departing Verona in an early-dawn downpour we pause at an Ayleid well just off the Red Ring Road not far south of Weye.

4.) http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn303/Decrepit_Waste/ESIV%20Oblivion/NeeshkaBravilInn_1.jpg. Neeshka wets her whistle at the Five Claws Lodge before setting out for Skingrad.*

5.) http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn303/Decrepit_Waste/ESIV%20Oblivion/NeeshkaPitcherPlants_a.jpg. Our current commission finds us collecting Pitcher Plant extract along the coast of Topal Bay.

6.) http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn303/Decrepit_Waste/ESIV%20Oblivion/BanditOutsideSkingrad_1.jpg. A highwayman's luck turns sour near Skingrad.

7.) http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn303/Decrepit_Waste/ESIV%20Oblivion/SkingradChapel_1a.jpg. We do a little site-seeing while awaiting the afternoon opening of Salmo's Bakery.

* The headgear seen here and in subsequent images results from a fortuitous accident. I handed Neeshka the golden Elf helm for safe keeping, assuming it would either be overridden by or replace her red tiara. I totally forgot that that tiara is actually an amulet. Instead of seeing one or the other, both remain visible. Amazingly, they compliment and complement both each other and Neeshka's body armor rather well. This largely solves my long-standing dilemma of liking the tiara but wanting something visually more protective.
