piecemental armour

Post » Sat Dec 25, 2010 2:27 pm

I know it's been mentioned already, but I can't help but remember having to walk to the ends of Vvardenfell just to find some little pauldron or some odd gauntlet I needed to complete my set. Having that taken away from me in Oblivion was a bitter pill.

Piecemental?
Piecemental.
Piecemeal.

And yes, the Morrowind system was better. I'd like to see the complexity of equipment return, and the simplicity of Oblivion's combat system remain.

Lol imagine iw when you armour has reached the critical damage and you haven't taken the care to repair it in time , when in the middle of a battle the enemy with a blow makes jump out of your body armour the nice pauldron you have there that flies in the air going in the bushes .... then after the fight you coudl collect that piece back and bring to someone to fix or repair back yourself if you have the skills ....

I'd like a morrowind level of complexity, but would not mind if armor had only as many peices as Oblivion did, so long as they increase the number of equipment slots so that clothes can be worn under armor and robes can be worn above armor.

I liked oblivions armor system better, all the armour fit properly unlike morrowind when Id see bits of my legs when the greaves stopped at the knee and the boots didnt even get that high. And between gauntlets and pauldons, I don't like seeing skin with my armor

What? Yes the realism was annoying I guess. In reality amor never covers everything thats why they wore layers underneath. Anyway I'm probably biased in that responce because I loved Morrowind's. 3 peice indoril 3 peice glass and I think another 3 daedric.

I would shed a man tear of joy if they brought back the system from MW. It was fracking awesome to find that last piece of armor you were looking for to complete your armor set.

Like Morrowind definitely. Each shoulder, chest, each gauntlet, each boot and legs (Oblivion never gave me the feeling I had when I got the only missing item of a full set of Deadric when i got the last pauldron in the Bloodmoon expansion). I would like to have gloves for my mages, too!

Trust me, they could simplify it even more. Look at what happened to Mass Effect. In the first game you could at least shop around for different armors. In the second you actually could change your armor design at will in your cabin but the only statistical changes occurred when you found upgrade plans. Great games, but def went from an RPG to a shooter with dialog trees.

Yeah, I agree. I think they may over-reacted to the fact that inventory ui was terrible so they scrapped it completely. Fable III did the same thing and it killed my experience for both games. I love my inventory lists for some reason.

Just a small comparison for people that are not fully aware on how things were different in terms of armor in Morrowind and Oblivion:

Morrowind (10 pieces, usually with 2 shields):

Helm
Cuirass
Left Pauldron
Right Pauldron
Left Bracer/Gauntlet
Right Bracer/Gauntlet
Greaves
Boots
Shield
Tower Shield

Oblivion (6 pieces, including shield):

Helm
Cuirass
Gauntlets
Greaves
Boots
Shield

Morrowind also allowed the player to wear a shirt and pants underneath the armor. So in Oblivion they merged the L&R Pauldrons with the Cuirass, L&R Bracers/Gauntlets into Gauntlets and removed one of the Shield options.

My personal preference would be to go back to the way armor was in TES3:Morrowind as the presentation seemed a bit too simplified in TES4:Oblivion. Hopefully we will not have 1-piece suits (a la Fallout) in TES5:Skyrim.

I think (going along with the armor theme and not wanting to start a new thread) that when you get armor, you should have the ability to choose what color you want it to be. For example, you complete your daedric set of armor, but you are in Skyrim and stick out like a sore thumb wearing black and red... there should be an option to go to an armorer (or some other vendor) and change the colors of your armor. Nothing serious, but maybe be able to change the base color and the secondary color, so instead of having black/red daedric armor, you could have white/green... Just my opinion, but it would add a little more personalization to the game (I hated going to a friend's house and see them playing the game and all look exactly the same as my character...)

I'd really like to see more armor pieces, but please no more left/right for pauldrons and gloves. It made no sense whatsoever that those were split while boots weren't. And it was downright annoying to watch at asymmetric gloves because you only found one Daedric (or any other good armor) glove so far.

I'd be all in favor of putting pauldrons back in and adding new slots like belts and bracers though. At least a few more than in Oblivion because it just didn't feel as much of an accomplishment to get a full set.

Clothes under armor..maybe leather, but for most of the others you'd be wearing padding underneath it.

I'm on the Oblivion side of fence here for armor items. Morrowind had too many elements and getting separate items for left/right glove/pauldron wasn't a good idea. A 6+1 slots armor system works fine :
Boots
Gloves
Pauldrons
Pants
Shirt
Helmet
+Shield

BUT, the way we found the rarest elements in Oblivion was unsatisfying. Regular robbers shouldn't be all equipped in full daedric and glass sets depending on their preferences. Hunting for a full Daedric set in Morrowind was part of the fun and was what was missing the most in Oblivion : the lure of exploring the world to find interesting stuff in it. There was nothing interesting to find in Oblivion cause everything was level scaled and there was no high level loot to find outside of random drops.

Keep the simplified Oblivion separation, maybe add the ability to wear some robes above the lighter armors. Keep the full set armors if needed for technical/RP reasons but provide them with the same enchant capabilities as individual pieces. Make the rarest forms of armors rare so that we have to hunt for a full set, maybe through a series of difficult quests.

I'm going to have to go with the piece system like in Morrowind... with pauldrons back in.

I agree. Separate the pieces again. I always enjoyed mixing and matching with the fur and leather armours, it created a character that looked more "realistic" and gave a personal touch to the character.

Yeah it should be modular, like in Morrowind. As others said it was really fun to finally get the last piece of an armor set.

Exactly. The compass was a band-aid for poor/lazy writing.

Helm, cuirass, L pauldron, R pauldron, L gauntlet/bracer, R gauntlet/bracer, greaves, boots is good enough for me. Keep it simple, but not too simple.

I prefer customization and I like searching for armour. Thus, I'd much rather find armour for all the sections of the body separately.

In general, I prefer to handle design, as much as possible! It makes me exceedingly happy to customize unto death.

would be cool also to be able to tint the clothes eventually or change the armours styles forge them by yourself and may be come up with really unique items with a decal system ....

o.O

they can't possibly simplify it more.. :S

but I'm almost sure they're not going to make an one piece armor...

Like the Arena Raiment, Dark Seducer/Golden Saint armor...?

The obsession of this community with asymmetrical clownsuits is astounding. Funny how nobody ever thingks about the impact that an unbalanced outfit is going to have on the poor bastard wearing it...

haha lol. my most favorite character in Morrowind was a weak Khajiit sorcerer who only wore heavy armor on his left side. with a tower shield of course
