piecemental armour

Post » Sat Dec 25, 2010 6:14 pm

One thing I didn't like of Oblivion is how they simplified the armour pieces into single big blob objects , I would like instead to be back the system of Morrowind and also be able to wear asymetrical pieces of armors to make piecemental work as I do like and prefer....

so gloves , front arm , rear arm , shoulder , pectoral , stomach , belt , upper leg , lower leg , boot , helmet

Completely agree with you. Oblivion was very simplified compared to Morrowind. I think I might shed a few tears if Skyrim is simplified even more.

o.O

they can't possibly simplify it more.. :S

but I'm almost sure they're not going to make an one piece armor...

I agree. Separate the pieces again. I always enjoyed mixing and matching with the fur and leather armours, it created a character that looked more "realistic" and gave a personal touch to the character.

Bring back the pauldrons! :)

I would love it if they went back to the extra armor pieces they had in MW. If it were the same as Oblivions I would be content. However, if they do one piece armor sets like in Fallout I would be pretty disappointed.

Fallout did it because the previous games had one piece armor. You weren't digging up T-51 boots or Combat Armor gloves in Fallout 1 or 2.. There's no need to run around screaming and worrying that Bethesda is going to do it for Skyrim.

Oblivion's style is fine for me, really. Not that Morrowind was bad, but finding eight or nine pieces to complete a suit of armor was a bit of a pain.

I am not sure if the one piece armour of Fallout was a choice due to the blood and Gore piecemental dismembering of the game , but I see no reason why this eventual dismembering couln't be used as well in Oblivion with piecemental armour with a bit of extra work .... just check for example the cryengie procedural destruction ... working with the cryengine I seen how to make this pieces ....

Please give us back customization (spelling?).
That was one thing that made me dont want to play Oblivion, also the fact that in the end everyone you found were wearing a extremely rare piece of Daedric Armour.

I remember my first time playing oblivion and I bought 2 of the same gauntlets since I was confused why it wasn't specified as left or right. Please bring back the morrowind style since it brought more customization and please let us put a shirt and pant under our armor and please let us put a robe over our armor.

And off course the ability to wear something over the armor like robes, cloakes and even skirts.

(Especially handy for light armor types worn by assassins, archers, etc, and armor types worn by battle mages, spellswords, etc.)

Trust me, they could simplify it even more. Look at what happened to Mass Effect. In the first game you could at least shop around for different armors. In the second you actually could change your armor design at will in your cabin but the only statistical changes occurred when you found upgrade plans. Great games, but def went from an RPG to a shooter with dialog trees.

I liked oblivions armor system better, all the armour fit properly unlike morrowind when Id see bits of my legs when the greaves stopped at the knee and the boots didnt even get that high. And between gauntlets and pauldons, I don't like seeing skin with my armor

I disagree with this, sorry.

I kind of liked searching hi and lo for the many pieces of glass armor I eventually used. I wouldn't have minded piecing together the armors in the fallout games either. I kind of disagree with the one size fits all approach, as it isn't 'realistic'. The bandits along the roads would have been less out of place wearing a piece of this and a piece of that, rather than the over dressed highwaymen I encountered after 13th level. (But level scaling is another issue, and one that needed fixing).

For me, in an RPG, part of the challenge is having to beg, borrow, steal and fight your way to complete sets of armor. It's so satisfying when you finally find that left pauldron! No offense, but I hope they do not cater to players who find anything that takes time to complete "a pain." It's this play-style and attitude that dumbed down Oblivion.

It's a pain to walk places, find a silt strider, or mages guild - Unfettered fast-travel

It's a pain to explore until I discover the quest location - GPS compass

I want to go anywhere in the world from the moment I walk out of the start dungeon and beat the game at level 3 - level scaling

Agree- 1000% I want to be able to wear clothes under armor, and robes on top! Extra room for enchanting!!

Wether it is seamless or has clipping issues has nothing to do with the armor system as such. What you're referring to has to do with the design of the models for the pieces and how they work on a ragdoll.

In any case. Both Oblivion and Morrowind featured seamless armor, depending on which set you wore.

Oh, for the love of..

Thank you for massively jumping to conclusions. You somehow assume that one statement somehow leads to me wanting TES to become Diablo II.

Fast Travel and GPS: The worst thing Bethesda did was not allow an "off" toggle in the menu. These are not bad ideas, but I'm not sure it's worth all the whining and crying I've heard about them for the last five years. For the sake of my sanity, I hope they include an "Ease of Use" section in the menu with a bunch of on/off options. I've seen other games do this, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

By the way, you actually had to find places before you could fast travel to them. You did actually play Oblivion, yes? Also, Cyrodiil has no silt striders.

Level scaling: You read this completely wrong, because it was mainly in response to people who complained the game was too easy at high levels.

Yes please, clothing under armor pieces. And perhaps some robes or capes over that again. Clothing made no sense in Oblivion, since wearing clothing meant that you couldn't wear armor. I loved the way Morrowind handled clothing and armor pieces, made you feel a bit more unique and harder to get complete sets.

Well back on Topic , The piecemental armour Woudl as many suggested here add a lot of more game experience , I also remember how fun was to collect all the pieces of the armour for completing one set for example , in Oblivion you loose this somehow and also was cool to go around looking for rare armours and stuff....
But not as one piece stuff but more like piecemental .... that way you can customize your own look .....

Another cool thing would be eventually to have a customization system that allows you for example to build up your own armour design if you ahve for example the abilities , you coul dtake pieces to create a new pauldron or take pieces to colour it or make it different material etc....

also cool woul dbe to see actually gore and mud and rust cover with time and fights your shiny armour ....or see it actually go intopieces as it get damaged ....

I remember when I first played Oblivion and got some armor, I was like "Oh, thats convienant, I get a whole set of armor" then when I tried to mix n match them I was like "That svcks". Moral of the story? Too much conveinence=simplicity.

This. They need to introduce distinct models of armour degradation. Buckled plate armour with visible dents, chainmail with missing links, torn and ripped leather armour. This would require a hefty amount of work, but the pay-off would be worth it. I don't want to see a bandit charging at me wearing gleaming glass armour. It's no longer acceptable, is this age of gaming, that armour damage is only indicated through a stat in your inventory screen.
